Booked in for remap

Featured Replies

Finally got round to booking my car in for remap. Very much looking forward to it as this will be the first time I've had one.

Bought the car on a whim from Redline in Knaresborough Oct 2012. I usually keep cars 6 - 12 months but see me keping this a while longer. Its a great all rounder.

Took off the Potenzas which I really didn't like (esp in the wet) and went down to WIM Chesham for 4 Eagle F1's and a geo. Thought it was better investing in stopping first rather than going!

Next on the list is a stage 1 map. Gone with Shark in Mansfield on the recommendation of many here. Anything I should watch out for or be wary of?

Thanks.

p.s When booking in they couldn't believe my 08 plate was a common Rail. He reckoned mine must have been one of the first. Is it that uncommon?

Your speed on the way home :-)

you'll not regret it.

Considering doing the same (remap with Shark) when my warranty runs out in July.

BTW, WIM are excellent. Have had two cars sorted there tracking-wise & they provided my recent summer tyres - the new Dunlop RTs.

Fantastic knowledge & service.

Wow, yeah. I had my remap done for free at superchips in mid 09 due to the fact that they hadn't yet seen a CR with the Skoda ECU (Although the CR was used apparently in the Audi TT) So I drove their, ahem. 'spare' around for a week. Getting out of a 1litre metro into a newly chipped VrS was nice.

Look forward to meeting you :)

Thanks to everyone at Shark. Glad I made the trip.

They are good :) what colours your vrs I'm in York too have a race blue one

I take it the ecu encryption is now not an issue on the CR???

Id recommend Shark all day long, the magic they worked with vRS was brilliant and still puts a smile on my face nearly a year later.

Still manages 50+mpg pulls like a train and wipes the smug look of the pretentious badges.

Btw mines a stage two mind...

Next on the to do list is get the sodding DPF knocked out, second best thing i did for my car

Any recommendations for cr tuners in central Scotland? I got some info from Grizzle which was much appreciated but just wondered if anyone else had any experiences or recommemdations.

What kind of prices should I expect?

Shark is £499+vat

APR is £419 incl vat

Revo is £400 not sure if that includes vat or not.

Thats a bit steep. £275 if I wanted to get my van done thru near Glasgow but they couldnt do the car due to the ecu encryption. They could do a box for £250 but that was last year so maybe they can bypass the encryption now and do a proper remap. Are these prices for the CR, or doesnt it make a difference? Just out of curiosity, how much is a dpf delete and remap?

A good map isn't cheap, a cheap map isn't any good..trust me i speak from experience

It completely depends who you go to for DPF removal, personally id go to someone independent like i did, i paid pennies for mine and it was as good as what anyone else would of done, proper company's like to charge silly sums if im honest. Although it does depend if you want a bypass pipe putting in or just the honeycomb taking out.

how many horses am i running? A magician never reveals her secrets ;)

More horses in findus lasagne I bet :-)

All our remap prices include VAT - our price is £499 inc VAT for the CR170

£275 is a great price for a job that they can't do!

Remaps are not all about cost. It's about the quality of the map that's written for your car, and knowledge and software used to do it costs money as do the correct tools to read and write the maps to the ECU.

If you have a 2010 VRS TDI then it's worth a few quid, I can understand those with 15 year old Golfs not wanting to spend £500 on a remap, but why skimp to the tune of £200 when it's a £20,000 car?

Totally and utterly agree with that, again, from experience. Shark are the best Ive experienced and Ive had most of the bigger name ones at least once now.

Maps arent the same. You are paying for the expertise from someone that knows exactly what the ECU is safely capable of doing. Or not, of course. ;)

So, you dont know then?! :giggle:;)

Where are the shark dealers in Central Scotland?

I know people that got the 275 map on their diesel astras and they have been really good. At the time, they couldnt do a remap on the car because of the encryption and suggested a box but I wasnt keen on that.

Cheers for the info so far.
