Farewell Yeti... ... ...

Featured Replies

Yep - later today the Yeti takes me on its last journey under my ownership as I head the 46 miles to Sinclair Skoda to pick up the Superb.

There's a bit of apprehension bubbling under the surface as S-day approaches because the Yeti has been a fantastic car, totally reliable, great FUN to drive, solid as a rock when skittering around on muddy verges and gateways, often at a fair old lick, economical, and now feels like a comfy pair of old slippers.

Will I like the Superb? Will it drive like a long go-kart and hold the road as well as the Yeti did? Will it be as nippy when it needs to be?

Time will tell I suppose. What I am certain about is that the new car will never match the slow depreciation of the Yeti which, in 2 years 10 months has slipped from £21700 to £16500 despite being 54500 miles older and bearingthe expected wear and tear marks on the paint, and to a degree inside.

All told not a bad suggestion from an 87 year old widow back in January 2010 after she'd read a report about the "off road button" in the Scotsman!

I'm fairly certain you'll love your new superb, which engine and trim did you go for?

When me and the wife were car shopping last year it boiled down to either a yeti or superb. We opted for a Yeti as it made sense for our needs and had/does everything we want.

It was an "impulse" buy of a cancelled order that was sitting in the showroom just where I had to walk around it to get to reception!

It's a 170 4x4 Elegance, with towbar and heated front screen.........

I'm sure it will be fine for you, George. At least all the guitars, etc will fit in easier.

Good luck, but I'm sure we will keep in touch.

Be interested to know how you get on with it. SWMBO has decreed that we will eventually have two dogs (our new puppy is just 10 weeks old) and at that stage the Yeti's rear space might be a little cramped. I'm not keen on the Octavia - too common (ducks for cover) but the looks of the Superb estate are growing on me. It would hold the ski gear more easily too ... mmm, food for thought for the future.

We will miss you here, George.

If space is the main priority then the Superb excels. I love the looks of the estate also and the fact there arent many out there. :) I had one for a week but decided it was just too much of a barge to be really engaging/fun like the Yeti is and Id have missed that too much had we have moved to it. So on the occasions we really do need the space we've just learnt to pack less and make the most of the upright boot space. Nice that you've managed to keep the 4x4, hope you find it suits your requirements. :)

We will miss you here, George.

+2. I shall be "dipping" into the superb section a little more often to see how the Farm Collies are doing. :giggle:

Guys

there is no rule that says owners of a particular model have to confine their activity on Briskoda to the section devoted to that model, George will still be able to read and post in Yeti threads, and the rest of you are also allowed to venture on to the rest of Briskoda.

 I was thinking the same. People saying goodbye like he had announced he was on his deathbed. He's downgrading his car but its not that bad  He'll still be on Briskoda! Its an open online community, not a prison with seperated cells. :giggle:

Enjoy the new Limo George and don't forget to post some pic's :)

Tim.

Best of enjoyment with your new car. Stay around!

I knew yetis had good depreciation but thats amazing. Doubt the superb will match that but then as a car it is "superb" so at least you will enjoy it while you own it. Would have loved a 4x4 superb with DSG but emmisions dont allow unfortunately. Same goes for the yeti, id have had a 4x4 DSG one of those also but Co2's are just a fraction too high. Come to think of it i also wanted a Scout with DSG. Really annoying that all the cars i wanted i couldnt get. Im sure they new versions will have lower emmisons just hope my company doesnt decide to re-think its car allowance policy.

Hope you enjoy the superb but i think its a pretty safe bet to be honest.

Jock - why not get the 2wd versions if emissions are a concern? That's what I did. No way I could justify the 4x4 cost and emissions as the worst I ever drive on is forest and farm tracks and army training areas. Never go off road properly.

I could have stomached a 2WD superb but then the cheap deals on the octy won me over but being a 4x4 type person i.e landy owner i have a stupid inbuilt principle that will not allow me to drive a 2WD version of a 4x4 type car. i.e the yeti and the scout are fundamentaly 4x4 cars or SUV type cars whatever you want to call them so for me if i have one of these SUV things then it has to be 4x4.

Silly i know but i cant help it. I will never own a 2WD jacked up car or SUV they simply must have 4x4 im afraid. 2WD is fine in my VRS and a superb but i would also have preferred a 4x4 vesion of my car if i could have got it. DSG is also a must for me as autos are just better on road cars IMO. A dodgy left knee also plays a part in this but i prefer autos anyway.

I have done the Yeti to Superb change........and YES you will notice the difference, it's not so nippy, it will need a whole parking space, the turn in on corners may take a while to get used to...but it's the quiet on the motorway that will hit home...the Yeti was quiet until I changed cars  ...have to say it's a whole different driving experience...and it will make you drive more sedately, don't ask me why it's just some trick it has of making you drive like a chauffeur ....also if something does disappear into the far reaches of the boot ...be prepared to mount an expedition to go and get it.

Funny thing my Superb came from the same place

Enjoy the Superb. I can't see it matching Yeti residuals either though. I paid £13600 for my new Yeti S in 2010 and sold it two years later for £11000. £2600 depreciation in two years on a brand new car, amazing. There aren't many 'premium' brands that can match that!

Waxing poetic again, eh George?

Don't be a stranger!!

George (if I may be so bold), you tell a b****y good tale! I loved it. Good luck with the Superb!

And he sings as well as he tells stories!!

And that's part of the - as someone put it (!!) "downgrade" to the superb 170 4x4 estate - reasoning! It'll hold the band electrics and instruments, and because this cancelled order had towbar prep (and now a towbar) it'll tow a trailer FULL of electronic amplificational kit and guitars and basses and keyboards and drums and, er, stuff, and we can all sit in comfort together on the way to YOUR barndance or ceilidh, or rock'n'roll gig, and arrive fresh as daisies ready to please your assembled masses. Remember, at our reunion gig (for which some DVDs are still available) we raised in excess of £25000 with just three capacity gigs in Hereford and Builth Wells.

Fancy a DVD. PM me!! Is it worth it? Ask the mid-Wales resident expert (no mean singer himself) Graham!
