Main Beam Bulbs: What have you got?

Featured Replies

I used (illegally) use 100watts for low and high beam, but found the life expectancy (on the low beam) short, perhaps a couple of months in the dark months of the year.

Have since replaced both headlight units, and using normal wattage bulbs and they are bright enough for me.

Philips X-treme H7, Can't fault them!

Osram Nightbreaker Plus.

I need some decent ones so will watch this thread with interest :)

Recently ordered some MTEC H7 - COSMOS BLUE after seeing them in a mates car. Looked like proper HIDs and not "chavvy".

It's worth noting for other members that the high beam bulbs are H3s :)

They do them too lol

On the halogens yes, h7 on the xenons...

I bought a pair of the halfords black bulbs on BOGOF... Great output, light up like daylight :D

I know mate, I have some but I'm going to try and sell them I think :)

In the front of mine I have:

Dipped: Philips Xtreme Power (+80%)

Main: Osram NightBreakers (+90%) - not the new 'Plus' version.

Indicators: Philips Silver Vision

Sidelights are just standard ones - Philips Premium (came free with dipped bulbs), and one Lucus.

Another vote for Nightbreaker Plus.

Depends on where you drive, but you'll not be spending very long on main beams, so bulb life shouldn't be as much an issue as with dipped beams.

I have the Osrams for both main and dipped.

Indicators are chrome from my local motor factors.

Sides are standard I think.

I'm using 'Osram Cool Blue Intense' bulbs on both dipped and main beams.

Gives everything a 'cleaner' appearence in the dark IMO (if 'cleaner' is the correct word to use....)

Another vote for Nightbreaker Plus.

+1

Apologies for being thick and very uninformed. Are you saying that if I change from original halogen lamps (H3s) to xenon lamps then I should order H7s? Are these the same fittings? Is the difference within the lamp?

Thanks

I've anybody wants a set of the MTEC H3 100 W set of bulbs I've got some spare :)

Osram Silverstar 2's in the Audi.

The OEM xenon projector headlight unite had a h7 bulb for the main beam, the halogens had a h3, that is what I meant...

Thanks Maverick, now I understand.

I've got standards but just ordered the Philips Xtreme, my first journey into light improvement, just picked the wrong time to do it!

The osrams are cheap £10 at amazon, I just figured from what people are saying its best to go Philips for the H7

I'm wondering about the sidelights, may go "illegal" with the LEDs given that if anything this is a more pedantic argument than that of HIDs...hardly people moaning about being blinded by LED sidelights at the moment ...just not sure whether to go for single or multi and which ones yet

Philips extreme vision. Very nice bright light :)

I've got a few pics of the different LED side lights available vs the standard bulb in my thread here \/

I only got as far as sticking in some LED's in the headlights because I discovered my cars last service was in 2005... so the headlight fund was transformed in to the service the car / new tire fund.

I've got MTEC Super White for my dipped and MTEC LED sidelights :)
