noob- best way to spend

Featured Replies

Picked up my 05 VRS yesterday and,OMG she a beast! Had tax rebate so how do you suggest I spend a grand upgrading her?I'm thinking more power :) but suggestions on where is best,I'm in south wales.

When was it last serviced?

I would say, remap, 312mm brakes, RARB and lowering springs.

Had full service inc belt n pump 6months ago.any ideas best place for remap? RARB?

Rarb is rear anti roll bar. Jabbasport do the best but some say it is a little harsh for road use. I love mine though. As said suspension and bushes would be my starting point before making it go faster

So lowering be better starting point?how low is yours?thought more power as I have just come from focus st.looked at angle tuning as they travel, these good or bad?

Just get on too of the maintenance side of things, have a look at the console bushes.

Have you got decent tyres fitted? A good coat of cleaning products is good for the car too :)

I will recommend Shark Performance for a remap or even more so AP Automotive who is a Shark dealer :)

as said, suspension ie springs/coilovers, 312mm brakes, remap, bushes, rarb.

Mine is lowered on FK coilovers. They are £190 posted (only cheap budget ones) I will say to go low and adjustable you need at least APs which are around £450. On top of that I would (I did) replace the top mounts, too mount bearings, drop links and bumps stops which added another £100 to the bill!

You could however get lowering springs on the standard shocks which are around £170 I think. Will only lower around 25mm though!

Slam it on coilovers. Don't get springs. You'll only end up getting coilovers after because it not low enough.

If you are in South Wales go to got boost in Bridgend.

As said remap, coilovers,rarb.

remap and handeling id say

Best way to spend a grand.......a holiday to vegas, thats what im doing anyway :D

But as said coilovers and remap at got boost in bridgend are your main 2 in my eyes. The rest could go lots of other ways like egr delete, rear anti roll bar, poly bushes, front strut brace, leon cupra splitter depends what direction you are going with the car really.

We are trying to put together a south wales meet, if you pop along i could take you for a spin to see what you make of a fabia on coilovers and remaped etc.

Rarb, powerflex console bushes, remap and decent coilovers. Replace drop links and top mounts if you do coilovers

1...remap can only be rtech and get the egr delete done as well- make sure you go before you lower it there rolers arnt very good with low cars as i found out

2.. source a good set of coilovers 2nd hand on here there always around saves you lots of money to start.

3..312 brake upgrade

4... bushes

and you should still have some change to do other bits too

Hmm how to spend a grand..??

Simples...

Bags... :D

Lol...

The best way to spend a grand is go on a lads holiday, get bladdered and get some women. Thats how id spend a grand :)

Hmm if your doing the work yourself I'd suggest the following:

Jabba RARB - £200 ish

Powerflex Bushes for console, anti-roll bar - £70ish for both

Powerflex Dog-mount bush (some one here don't like it but I don't mind) £45ish

312mm Brake system £250ish

Maybe some new tyres/wheels depending on what ur running. Perhaps a new head unit or a leather retrim.

Well leather on its own is a grand lol, but yeah another +1 on GotBoost mate

Depends how long and how far your going to take the modding. If your going all out hybrid/gtb and all top spec stuff then save more and get maybe some KW V3s first.

If your just wanting a decent all round improvement, I'd go with;

Mid range coilovers £500 + fitting

Unit 18 Remap £250

312mm brake upgrade £150 + fitting

Send me the 1k so I can buy the £950 wheels I want for my Fabia that I'm struggling justifying spending my own money on :p

What wheels southy?

What wheels southy?

Rather not say as I believe I'm yet to see another Fabia with them on, but this maybe cause of the price of them :p

I will be buying my own tyres on top of this money lent to me for the wheels haha

The wheels I want are only £650, still struggling to justify it though :(

Full tank of diesel. Sunglasses holder to replace driver's grab handle, pair of sunglasses, and a nice long driving holiday :D

Maintenance first or tuning it will find the weak spots quickly!!

Once its had a service, bushes, check the radiator as these are prone to failure.

Next up lower it. Springs or coilovers your choice.

Sort the breathing. Panel filter, and a decat zorst, cheapest to decat the standard system.

Brakes. Cheeky 312 upgrade with some DS2500 pads.

Stiffen. Upper front and upper rear brace coupled with a RARB.

Power. Stage 1 map from a reputable tuner.

Once that's all done start saving for a hybrid, BFOFMIC, an uprated clutch etc.
