Shell fuel?

Featured Replies

Had to have my fuel tank drained recently ,after the plonker that I am, dropped a piece of plastic tube down the filler pipe. I had to refuel with Shell as that was nearest supply. Is it me or does this fuel make the car go better?. It certainly feels like it.Car runs smoother and pulls better.

I only ever use Shell V-Power. Best petrol in my experience.

Is that with regular diesel or their V-Power stuff? I didn't notice any difference switching from Esso to Shell fuelsave (Esso garage bought out by Morrison's just after the Total opposite got bought by Shell), but going by the half tank of V-Power that I've used up (first time I've tried it) then it does make quite a difference. Smoother and better pull, as you say, and the maxidot mpg readout is 2-4 mpg better than normal. I'll know more once I've done a brim to brim calc.

Have only ever put Shell in mine and loves it. But once had to put Esso in and there was a noticeable difference.

Thats interesting as the one and only time I used V power I got the worst fuel consumption than I usually got, Tesco is normally a couple of MPG up on Shell fuel save, however my best was my last fill up 54.6 MPG on fuel that I try to avoid whenever possible (Sainsburys) it was 450+ miles of steady motorway miles out of the 625 total miles.

I use Shell when the local outlet undercuts Tesco, but seem to get better performance and consumption from Tesco.

As i have said before, i always use the branded fuel and have done for about 6 years. my last car a bmw 120i got 3mpg more and performed better and my current car octy vrs diesel is the same. This is not the main reason why i use branded, I have just had my opinion confrirmed, my mums friend need's a whole new engine and fuel system in a fairly new car and my brothers transit is getting new injectors, tank flushed and a new filter and housing. still waiting to hear about the fuel pump. both vehicles are filled up at asdas and not dodgy back street red. Mums friend was asked have you been putting contaminated fuel in the car (no i work for asda and have a fuel card so why would i, i dont pay for fuel) Brother was asked the same from his garage, the answer was also no. So im sticking with the branded fuels.

Only ever put Shell in mine too, unless there's an unusual reason not to. More than happy with it, but obviously nothing to compare to with regards to my Octy

I buy from what ever station is nearest at the time of need. Usually tesco momentum is used although I cannot say I've noticed I go further although engine feels smoother.

I only run mine on shell v-power or shell diesel if no v-power.

Shell normal diesel plus Millers......since new.

Runs like a dream.

:)

Shell every time

Petrol V-Power i notice a difference from 95 is less sharp less responsive.

not sure you would notice it on a diesel though.

Shell V-Power on my diesel. Never tried anything else on it so don't know any difference.

I put high octane fuel in mine most of the time (Texaco or Tescos) but I have to say, I've never noticed a difference in terms of performance, response or MPG.

then give my wife the car she will fling in any old sh*te, discovered this last night when it was running rough as hell.

Asked were she filled up "oh just at Asda it was only £1.37"

Grrrr.....

Only got Tesco nearby so I use their 99RON.

I'd use Shell if it was nearby, often they're cheaper than Tesco anyway.

I exclusively use Shell for my Octavia but that is because in my Fabia for whatever reason it genuinely ran smoother on it, also Shell is cheapest for me locally. However the diesel prices in Germany have dropped €0.10 a litre lower if I fill up at Aral (BP) there, so in a few months when the tank is low I might go there if it's still the case.

For petrol I use Aral Ultimate 102 used to make the old bike produce some flame, SO COOL!

Used shell last night and got stung for £147.7 pl... hopefully I'll learn not to let my fuel tank get so low again :)

Have used tesco since I've had my vRS (3-4weeks now). Noticed my MPG has gone up as I used 95RON for the first fill-up and since being using the Momentum 99.

Taken about 3 weeks to start improving (3 fill ups), but we're talking about 3-4mpg increase. Used to get about 28mpg on my commute, but gone up to 31-32mpg now... of course the weather may have something to do with this.

Gotta admit I run it on Asda petrol....runs fine! Before buying the vRS I had a Mondeo ST TDCI....I used Shell when it was as cheap as the supermarkets, when it got dearer, I started using Asda diesel.....no noticeable difference in how she ran or fuel economy. Occasionally while using Shell diesel I'd put in V-Power.....and while I noticed a slight increase in the 'eagerness' to accelerate.......in real terms I don't think it was actually any faster and I don't recall any significant difference in fuel economy...

Shell fuelsave or Tesco 99 momentum in my 1.2 Octavia, whoever is the cheapest and most convenient. Car runs well on either

I also normally run Shell V-Power but this time I used normal Shell diesel, I personally don't notice any difference in power just a small amount of mpg more (3). I don't know anything about fuel but I am sure I have been told that V-Power and Ultimate stuff burns cleaner for DPF etc so like a good little sheep I have gone off that as a reason. At current exchange rate BP diesel is £1.19 a litre for me.

Really??? i instantly knew it wasnt filled with v-power or tesco 99 when i asked the mrs about it, just seemed less sharp as it used to then she confessed it was Asda's plain 95ron fine if your not turbo'd etc its an ok fuel it meets spec but it has zero detergents or higher octane.

I used Asda diesel in mine since new, then converted to Shell V Power about a month ago after advice on here. Initially the mpg dropped minimally (1-2 mpg) but subsequent fill ups with the same have seen it steadily rise to about 2-3 mpg above the previous. I'll be sticking with v-power now as the extra cost per litre works out better value.
