PID , iPod and SD cards and more

some quick questions

swmbo looking at swapping 53 reg mk1 vrs for citigo elegance greentech

she currently has an after market radio (which supports the ipod like MDI in the fabia) in the vrs, as the original unit died with usual issue of mind of its own on volume control

is there anyway to use an ipod nano (which doesn't have Bluetooth) in the citigo other than via the aux socket?

if she puts her music on an SD card in the PID what is the maximum size you can realistically use, her radio supports up to 8gb but anything over 2gb takes forever to index before it will play anything ;(

final question, she is trying to decide whether to get the 60 or 75PS, from what I have read on here under normal driving there is nothing to choose, it is only if you use the top 1/3 of the rev range you notice any difference?, and despite her having a vrs she does not rev it hard very often just uses the low down power of the diesel

thanks in advance

I run a 32gb class 10 card with no problem's

Its about half full

I also never shut it down I only use standby

I have only driven the 60PS Citigo for an hour or so, but it didn't feel it especially lacking -we have a 75PS and it is very nippy in town but lacks the torque of a diesel at motorway speeds. When I'm out in the Citigo, it always surprises me how far behind me people are after a couple of seconds when the lights change. The Greenline II is more of a motorway tool for the power output.

I can't remember what size memory card is in our PID -it's either 8 or 16GB -no issues in access speed, however the PID units can be a little flakey and have a wig out every now and then. they seem to be getting better with software updates

i us a 8 gb card in mine no problems with access to any track using the on screen menu on the PID. very easy to use. i tend to just put it on random play but if you want to skip tracks it's easy done on the touchscreen

Or hit the random button without taking your eyes off the road ;)

Ive had no issues with using a memory card , bluetooth or mp3 cds.

well

just gone out to dealers with swmbo to get a brouchure,

test drove a elegance greentech 75ps, and come away having ordered one :hi: :hi:

Red citigo elegance greentech, 75ps, with enterainment pack, convienience pack, safety pack and spare wheel

got to get to work on MK1 VRS now to get a good part x price as having been used by the kids as a skip for 10 year there is a lot of cleaning to be done

I find the skip buttons on the screen quite fiddly on the move, so just use the back and forward buttons on the main stereo, especially useful if you're in nav-mode at the time.

Drove both and IMHO couldn't tell the difference in the sort of driving I would be doing in it. 60bhp is enough for the job as its a surprisingly torquey (this that a word?) Engine.

dealer seemed surprised we were back for a 3rd car within a year, told them we had no more cars to change ;)

took it out for a 8 mile test drive, 50/50 motorway and a roads and managed 54mpg according to PID without trying, and also seeing what the little car could do (acceleration wise) so not exactly being economical

engine has a nice tone above 3-4k, but below that seems to suffer with wind (sort of has a fart tone to it, best description we could find) but not a displeasing tone,

swmbo is 5 foot and a little bit, I am 6 foot and both could drive it comfortably without to much changing the driving position

main thing she wanted was a cup holder for her costa coffee she gets on way to work, To spill her coffee in the morning is a fate worse than death. believe me

just gone in to check on progress and told due end of july

16 weeks from order? am not worried if it gets build after week 22 as I think that is when they start the MY14 build with upgraded PID and the new folding seats I think, don't mind a couple of weeks wait if we get the upgrades :)

anyone else seeing longer build times on factory orders?

The Citigo is in demand, and there seems to be an extended waiting list for Elegance models based on allocation (or so I was told - 10-12 weeks or less for an SE, 14-16 or more for an Elegance, so we bought their demonstrator at 3 days old).

Likewise; I'm 6'2", wifey is 5'1" and it only takes a quick click on the seat to allow for us both.

Missed this one first time round, but have since driven a 60PS and as the power output graphs show, there's no difference until north of 4000rpm. The 75PS will be worth more come trade in/sale time, naturally..but wifey wouldn't settle for the lower output engine.

allocation to / by who?

vw allocating a limited number of engines / parts to skoda so no supply issues for VW up?

allocation of cars by skoda cz or skoda uk to dealers?

Skoda UK dealers have certain quotas, i.e. 40 S, 50 SE, 25 Elegance (made up figures but the general principle applies) and when they've used up their "allocation" for a certain month, they either "trade" with other dealers or sometimes put your order into the next months quota. Despite your order being made on one date, they might not have been able to put it onto the SUK order system for a week or two, which adds to "your" order delay. Some options (i.e. pano roof, ASG) might have their own allocation which depending on options means you might get an 8 or 18 week delay. Build schedules within the factory could also mean that they can't build more than x% of a certain option (i.e. 1 in 4 pano roof etc) due to extra time needed on the track to fit certain options.

This is why sometimes you can get a better lead time/discount from one dealer over another - depending on how their monthly sales figures are going; some (most?) can take a hit on the profit margin to sell a particular model to get their figures (and hence bonus) closer to their monthly/quarter/year targets. You can normally get a better/quicker deal on a car they've ordered for stock (knowing they have 12/14 weeks to sell it before it lands and starts costing them money).

SUK have their own allocation as well from Skoda CZ which they have to juggle around.

makes sense to a certain extent so as to maximise production line output, seeing as we pretty much fully loaded our citigo elegance greentech(with entertainment pack, convienience pack, safety pack and spare wheel) it probably got pushed down the list a bit

Its amazing what you pick up when spending a few weeks in the Painted Body Stores of a car plant...cars don't go in a straight line from the start of the body shop of the end of the trim/assembly line.

I know what you mean, I work in IT and a few years ago was working for a company doing system upgrades / design and went to a company and got the tour of the factory, it was a small strip rolling mill producing high grade products like copper, nickel silver etc, really interesting seeing whole process from scrap, through smelting, rolling, annealing through to end product and all the QA processes along the way

Aha, what type of 32GB Class 10 Micro SD card is this? I'm sure that the ordinary Micro SD cards can't be as large as this so perhaps it's a Micro SDHC card or a Micro SDXC one?

Edited by JimmyR

The one I use is a SanDisk Ultra 32Gb Micro SD HC I

Edited by Owens

Thank you Owens. I'll be able to order a Sandisk Micro SDHC card, safe in the knowledge that it will be fine.

I copied music straight from my hard disk onto a 2gb micro sd but the music is not being recognised.

I did not have the unit plugged in at the time.

Should I use the USB cable and copy it that way??

  • Author

depends on the file types of the music you copied, not sure the exact list of formats it supports
