Ideas for power boosting

Featured Replies

So I put a post up before about mods about a year ago but i don't really wanna go cosmetic, just wanna focus on power.

I have a 2003 fabia 1.2L, only got 58bhp... sooo i wanna get a bit more power out of it.

I figure I need to service it, I also kinda want to put a turbo on it, I just can't find any for a 1.2 engine and I don't know what sort of steps are needed for tuning, sooooo obviously I need some more beginning level mods till I get used to the engine and things. Was also thinking brake conversions for the rear brakes to discs instead of calipers and I'm fairly sure I need a new exhaust after I dropped my baby in a ditch last year :(.

i am also a student so I need cheapest options first, but suggestions for more expensive projects would be nice as I can always just save some money up.

Cheers guys! :hi:

There's really not a lot you can do power wise. A chap on here (Tech1e) is in the process of putting a 1.8T in 1.4 MPI Fabia.

You could alter/ improve the handling by getting coilovers, roll bars, poly bushes etc maybe even upgrade to vRS brakes.

Just save your money for your next car IMO.

Maybe a vRS...

1, VRS badges = +5bhp

2, Cool stickers, i.e "It's a skoda honest" = +5bhp

3, Flame decals down the each side of the car = +10bhp

Thats 20 bhp just there that means you're looking at 78 bhp which is probably gonna shred your tyres every time you set off which means new tyres which if you're lucky is another 5 - 10 bhp

With all that power you will probably need a performance clutch but with that you should see a further increase of 5bhp!!

so estimate of 93 bhp from the above mods :)

Won't be cheap though!!

Or perhaps buy a vrs?

Meh its upto you.

I don't wish to offend you but stop and think for a moment, the reason that virtually no large scale tuning work has been done for the 1.2 is because it's a poor starting point with minimal gains to be had without stupid amounts of money or an engine transplant and by the time you go down that route it would be cheaper and easier to buy something better in the first place.

haha thanks dude :p the car is a plucky wee belter but i might just have to upgrade to a new car and stick to really basic stuff just now , thanks anyway guys!!

I think that if you did some handling mods you would get the best out of it.

Stick some decent coilovers on it and a rarb along with some wider wheels and tyres

and it will combine to make it so you don't have to slow down for much.

It will seem faster that's for sure.

To be totally honest with you, just enjoy it.

My first car was a MK2 fiesta 1.1 and it had zero power but I have some great memories of that car :)

More power = more worries/problems I find

I agree with Adam. My first car was a 1L rover 200, 0-60 in 15 seconds, but where there was a lack of power, you could mash the throttle around bends, making it feel really fast. The only problem with my vrs at the mo is your in "loose you licence" speed in no time at all! :p

Cheers guys, might jst stick to new sound system etc :)

If you really must buy an long intake tract air filter system long piping to cold air feed area and a decat other than that not a lot cheaply wise, and you'll likely needed a remap.

Seriously save your money.
