Favourite things about your Superb

Featured Replies

I am in waiting to receive my brand new Superb, hopefully late in May (please), I need a pep talk about just how good it is as the wait is killing me.

I was (ever-so-slightly) dismayed to read the 'most annoying things on your Superb' thread , can we please counteract this with a list of you favourite things .

Just the little features or conveniences that you love.

Purely for balance you understand, as well as my sanity.

On my estate the parcel shelf is really easy to use, the luggage hooks are brilliant and as an L & K it's got nets and the luggage system. It's a great drive, great steering and a good lock, mine's on 18s but I find the ride acceptable. The DSG gets better the more I use it.

Great space, everyone climbing into the back remark about it.

I couldn't relate to all of the moans, one or two resonated but nothing to spoil the car.

Keep looking forward to it -I I'm sure you'll love it -what have you ordered?

PS I've also got the xenon lights - they beat any I've had before, they're streets in front of the Merc CLK I used to own.

Just added car details to my profile. Choose petrol as I do less than 10K miles pa, seemed sensible with the 0% APR as well, also came in Elegance.

I just love the torch in the boot. Can't wait to listen to music through the bluetooth, and annoy my wife wife calls on the way home from work (just because I can)

Couldn't quite justify an L & K, would have been nice though.

What do I like;

1) The ride

2) The engine

3) The DSG

4) The comfort

5) The warm glow of looking out of the window at all the other motorists who have not discovered how good they are

Favourite item: My smile...entirely voluntary but it seems to be there every time I drive. Last Saturday I did some 600 miles straight from Frankfurt to the New Forest, and compared to my last car (a large 4x4) I was fresh as daisy.

Specifically: the smooth DSG, the seat memories, and the flexi HDD sound system. And price.

What do I like;

1) The ride

2) The engine

3) The DSG

4) The comfort

5) The warm glow of looking out of the window at all the other motorists who have not discovered how good they are

no. 5, i totaly agree on! i was looking at a 12 plate 1.6 tdi passat out of Arnold Clark in December, but the boot opening was not big enough, and when i looked at the superb the twin boot really caught my eye and i knew i had to have it plus my brother has one too,

The ride is brill, the cabin space is amazing, my 1.6 TDI gets me good MPG, the lights are nice and strong, the car is nicely soundproofed, spec is good across the range, the twindoor boot is the cars party piece, brakes are strong, steering is light around town and weights up while traveiling at speed, you will NOT be disappointed and feel stupid you didn't buy one sooner

What do I like;

1) The ride

2) The engine

3) The DSG

4) The comfort

6) Simply after a year with it. The Car.

The V6 3.6 engine

Clearly - the umbrella.

The amount of people who look at it and tell me what we all already know what I great car I have. I have had lots of cars including 3 previous Skoda's but never had the reaction from people that I get with this car!

Agree entirely.

In fact last week my wife had just parked our Elegance Combi and was looking in her bag for some change for the parking meter when she noticed a female parking inspector taking a photo of our car. By the time my wife got out of the car the inspector was walking away and didn't turn around when called.

So my wife rang the council and received a call back from someone who officially apologised on behalf of the council for any stress caused. Apparently the parking inspector really liked our car and was taking a photo to show her husband !

We've the 'S' spec or as many call it 'poverty spec'. But it's still very well kitted. Estate has a removable torch in the boot, carrier hooks on both sides of the boot, umbrella in rear passenger door, small net on centre console in passenger footwell for small odds and ends and sufficiently out of sight to not draw attention from passers by, driving and acceleration response is really good, air vents in B pillars are a great idea, boot lid that locks automatically and doesn't unlock unless the button is pressed either in the car or one of the front doors is opened, intermittent wipers that automatically change speed with your driving speed. To be honest there is too many things to mention without looking at a brochure. The whole package is bloody good.

The Superb was a great car for me - big, quick, quiet, efficient, comfortable and the looks on people faces, when they realised it was a Skoda was fab!

I've just taken delivery of a CR170 Elegance Estate after having had a BMW 5 Series Estate for the last 5 years. The things I like better are:-

1. The Columbus system starts much faster than the BMW system, in spite of complaints I have seen about it elsewhere

2. It finds navigation routes very quickly compared to the BMW.

3. The seats are more comfortable.

4. There is much more space in the boot.

5. There is much more space for rear seat passengers.

6. I have an engine (and oil) temperature gauge, there wasn't one in the BMW.

7. The wing mirrors fold.

8. The speakers are clearer, though a bit tinny.

9. Better choice of colours. I love my Rosso Bruno metallic.

10. My iPod works better with more info on the Columbus.

11. If you look at the quoted mpg figures the BMW 2.0 177PS engine does better mpg than the Skoda 2.0 170PS engine. In reality I actually find the Skoda does marginally better but the BMW has a bigger fuel tank so I miss this on the Skoda.

12.The parcel shelf system is much better.

Added to all this the Skoda is a hell of a lot cheaper and much cheaper to service, I'm not missing my BMW!

Agreed but the BMW emissions are much much lower than the the Superb, probably around 20-21%

I love the whole package (09 plate, 2.0tdi se) had to drive my wife's 09 Merc c class diesel a few days ago, it's very uncomfortable, Superb soon put the smile back on my face.

When I bought my Superb elegance cr170 DSG hatch in October 2009, I tested a wide range of cars as I had nearly £40,000 available for a possible purchase. I tested amongst others: BMW 3 and 5 Series; Mercedes C & D class; Jaguar XF; Audi A4 & A6; Mondeo; Citroen C5. I have to say that of all the cars I tested, the only car that I felt gave me more of what I wanted than the Superb was the Jaguar XF, and that was mainly an ambiance issue. To get that ambiance I was going to have to pay a lot more than the £25,000 for the Superb.

I must say, even after 3 1/2 years I still enjoy driving my Superb. OK, It doesn't have quite the handling of a BMW, Mondeo or XF, but with 33 lbs/ sq inch front and rear, turn in is as good as I need and the ride is well rounded and not jittery. Even with 2 up and a full boot I can get about 43 mpg easily and without hanging around. Its quiet, easy to drive, has a good ambiance and has plenty of room and will go a bit when I want it to. I could go on, but suffice to say its probably the best all round car I have owned.

This is especially nice to read as it isn't just about the toyds but how they work. We are taking delivery tomorrow of a superb and I was so very very close to getting a 5.

Thanks Caspian, that is 'superb'; exactly what I wanted to read. No-one here can be accused of damning with faint praise.

Though I didn't test as many cars as you, as soon as I took the wheel of the Superb it just felt right.

I had no previous knowledge of the model and had not owned a Skoda before. I saw one in the Showroom car park (grey, elegance, estate) and thought , 'Wow, if only I could afford one of them'; after a test drive and a few discussions, my plans for an Octavia were quickly upgraded.

Now I can't wait to show the people on my street, I keep getting the same look when I say I'm buying a Skoda (all Skoda owners will know what I'm talking about). When they see it they will understand where I am coming from.

Thanks everyone else as well. Keep 'em coming people, you are helping raise my spirits during this long wait. Ultimately, I want this thread to be longer than the 'annoying things about Superb' version.

Let's have some solidarity.

Y-know...I was thinking recently about changing my car. I test drove a Merc CLS500 (awful foot operated park brake), a Maserati Quattroporte and a 4.2 Jag XF.

Y-know what...I found my Superb a much better drive than all of `em.

So, the answer, for me, to the original question is `Everything`!

I tell a lie...the seats are awful. That apart, I'm a happy bunny.

well, the Czechs have a rich history of making the cars. There have been times it couldn´t be this way but as I speak with people engaged in Skoda Company business, all they tell company is really trying to get back to "those" times before world wars when Skoda was a respected car manufacurer in Europe. Of course as a subsidiary of VAG they have technology market limitations - technology news for Skoda 1-2yrs after VW or AUDI, but question is how many goodies on the other hand you really need in the car? In fact, lot of people admire Superb2 - especially estate version. Design, looks, practicality, reputation, drive.....

Beside Octavia in present time, jobs on Superb3, Yeti2, concepts and possibly new models has begun. In comparision to Seat for example Skoda goes on well and expanding. Ambitions for the new models are really great.

Little things keep happening which I love. OK, when the sat nav is on, Columbus alerts me to traffic situations. The TMC is pretty effective, even if it doesn't reroute.

But yesterday I had a 20 mile drive on a well known route with about 10 miles of the M3 motorway - so well known/frequent I didn't think to use the SatNav.

BUT just going along the motorway with the radio on, Columbus piped up and warned me of a traffic situation ahead, in time for me to get off at the next exit. Sure enough, ten minutes later Radio Two's traffic temptress mentioned long delays on the M3 south of Winchester. Very clever to work out I was on that motorway and warn me without any input from me. In fact Brilliant!

OK, I am taking my chance since I have already listed the things that annoy me on the other thread.

I get the impression from what others say, that it is a combination of practicality, value and of all the little things that make the car just feel right when driving it. Yes I have had a few derogatory comments and some smirks from some of the guys at work, but most have also said, after the barrage of Skoda jokes have died down, that they in fact like the look of my car and acknowledge that the car is quality since it comes from the VAG group.

Having now done 6000 miles in my car since I bought it nearly four months ago, I can honestly say that I have never enjoyed owning or driving a car as much, and I have had lots of cars in 33 years of driving.

I have never owned a Merc, Audi, BMW or Jaguar so I am maybe talking through ignorance here, but I just cannot see me ever owning one as will not be made to 'pay through the nose' when it comes to servicing or maintenance.

We will see if I change my mind, as I usually keep cars until well past 100,000 miles. My confidence in Skoda is quite high though.

So what is the most favourite thing about my Superb? To know that I have made an informed choice after doing a lot of research and that I have probably bought the best car possible without having to make compromises.

Best thing for me is reminding Audi driving colleagues, after they look down their nose at you that they either paid about £10k more for their equivalent spec A6, or for similar money are driving round in a base spec A4, or had to settle for a two year old S Line in the first place rather than factory fresh! I still wish you could despec the black leather in the Eleg, as my main issue is the heat retention on long drive, but this is more than outweighed by all the good points as listed by others in this thread.
