Every year, the long Ascension Day weekend sees up to 200,000 tuning fans meeting in the Austrian town of Reifnitz for the Volkswagen event. This year, ŠKODA will present them with ŠKODA Rapid SPORT as a highlight a particularly sporty study of its compact sedan ŠKODA Rapid.

“The GTI Meeting is a Mecca for all tuning and motorsports fans,” says ŠKODA’s chairman of the board, Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “With the ŠKODA Rapid SPORT, we will put a decidedly dynamic and emotive version of our new compact sedan Rapid on display for the first time.”

“This way, we once again demonstrate the competence of our team with regard to sporty vehicles and motorsports,” adds Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA board member for sales and marketing.

The ŠKODA Rapid SPORT will show off the power of the Skoda design as well as the Rapid’s inherent possibilities. The result is a vehicle full of excitement and sportiness. The vehicle is painted in ‘Corrida Red’ and ‘Steel Gray’ metallic colors. The sporty car sits on massive 19” alloy wheels. The front of the vehicle impresses with spoilers and a powerful air intake in the skirt. Generously dimensioned fenders and massive rocker panels underscore the appearance of the vehicle.

Other sporty accents are the rear with a voluminous bumper and two integrated tailpipes. The rear lights in the ‘C’-shaped design typical for the brand show a contrasting color. A carbon frame completes the bottom section. The sporty layout continues in the interior of the car, for example with a sport-type steering wheel, Recaro seats and illuminated door sills.

Since the autumn of 2012, the ŠKODA Rapid has been sold in the European markets as the ŠKODA’s seventh model line. The compact sedan complements the company’s model range between the ŠKODA Fabia and the new ŠKODA Octavia. With compact dimensions (4.48 meters long, 1.70 meters wide), the vehicle convinces through outstanding spaciousness and room for five passengers and their luggage.

They are supplemented by numerous ‘simply clever’ solutions, an excellent price/value ratio and an extensive safety package. Equally attractive is the timeless design. Since its market launch, the Rapid has won numerous awards. The vehicle received the best possible rating of five stars in the Euro-NCAP crash test.

--- ENDS ---

This is surely the benchmark for those who early on said the Rapid had great potential. It might be a little over the top, but for a concept, it's fantastic!

I noted the phrase - ' Concept Car' so a tad cynical that it will ever be made with a decent engine in it.

More likely to be the same as the Citigo & Fabia sport.

I don't get these concept cars. They make a sexier version of a production model, which you can't buy.

Most of the concept cars are usually greeted with general approval and an improvement of the original design. Just make the knacking thing....

They already did. Look at the Rapid. All they did was add door handles to the Mission L.

I just hope it doesn't go the way of Monte Carlo - very nice exterior with no extra power on the inside. Since people will be deciding between Octavia RS and this, I can imagine the Rapid will be a little neutered.

Further update from Worthersee:

Mladá Boleslav/Reifnitz, May 8, 2013 – At this year’s GTI Meeting at Wörthersee, ŠKODA will present a total of five sports car models. The highlight will be the world premiere of the concept car ŠKODA Rapid SPORT. Moreover, the Czech manufacturer will show the new ŠKODA Octavia Combi with a sports package, the ŠKODA Citigo Motorsport and the ŠKODA Fabia RS Motorsport. Also on display will be the successful rally racer ŠKODA Fabia S2000.

?The 32nd edition of the legendary Volkswagen tuning event will take place from May 8 to May 11, 2013. Every year, the long Ascension Day weekend sees 200,000 tuning fans meeting in the Austrian town of Reifnitz for the Volkswagen gathering. This year, ŠKODA will present them with a total of five sports cars – more than ever before.

“As a brand with an almost 112 year tradition in motorsports, it is a matter of honor for us to participate in this fascinating tuning event and to present the fans our brand’s sports cars,” says ŠKODA’s chairman of the board, Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “With the ŠKODA Rapid SPORT, we will put a particularly sporty and emotional version of our new compact sedan Rapid on display for the first time,” adds the ŠKODA boss.

The ŠKODA Rapid SPORT will show off the power of the Skoda design as well as the Rapid’s inherent possibilities. The vehicle is painted in the metallic colors ‘Corrida Red’ and ‘Steel Gray’. The sports car sits on massive 19” alloy wheels. The front of the vehicle impresses with spoilers and a powerful air intake in the skirt. Generously dimensioned fenders and massive rocker panels underscore the appearance of the vehicle. Other sporty accents are the rear with a voluminous bumper and two integrated exhaust tailpipes. A circumferential carbon frame completes the bottom section. The sporty layout continues in the interior of the car, for example with a sport-type steering wheel, Recaro seats and illuminated door sills.

Just in time for the market launch of the new ŠKODA Octavia Combi, the Czech manufacturer shows off the ŠKODA Octavia Combi with a sports package at Wörthersee. The equipment includes a front grille in a shiny black color as well as a red/black front spoiler. The covers of the outside mirrors and the roof girders are painted in shiny black, the rear diffuser in red and black. The sports version of the Octavia station wagon sits on the 18” wheels named ‘Turini’ in matt black. The sporty appearance of the interior is emphasized by black sports seats with red threads and aluminum pedals.

Pure dynamism is also on display in the ŠKODA Citigo Motorsport: the white color of the car’s body is contrasted effectively by black lateral stripes on the hood and on the tinted panoramic roof. A special sports kit includes front and roof spoilers as well as a rear diffuser, each painted in ‘Deep Black’. Likewise, the rear of the two side mirrors is painted in ‘Deep Black’. The appearance of the vehicle’s front is marked by a decorative black stripe on the lower bumper. The ŠKODA Citigo Motorsport sits on 16” alloy wheels, available alternatively in white or in a combination of black metallic/silver. The vehicle’s sides show a sweeping, gray stripe with the ŠKODA Motorsports logo. The side windows in the rear bear the ŠKODA Motorsports lettering. The interior also expresses the sporty focus of the vehicle at first sight.

The ŠKODA Fabia RS Motorsport – UK Edition is a compact power package. The vehicle is painted in ‘Candy White’, excitingly contrasted with black elements: both the roof and the front grille are black. The headlights are highlighted in black; the fog lights have a black frame. The roof line ends with a black spoiler. Tinted windows emphasize the sporty character, as does the glued-on racing stripe with the ŠKODA Motorsports logo at the lower door line. The vehicle sits on 17” alloy wheels in the design ‘Gigaro’, available alternatively in white or metallic black. The rear is dominated by a center exhaust tailpipe. In the interior, decorative door sills display the ŠKODA Motorsports lettering. Like the leather gear shifter, the 3-spoke leather steering wheel has white threads.

The rally racecar ŠKODA Fabia S2000 is a particularly attractive eye-catcher in Reifnitz. The vehicle is among the most successful cars in the international rally sport. The performance and reliance of the Fabia S2000 laid the basis for numerous ŠKODA racing victories. For example, thanks to the Fabia S2000, the 2012 season was among the most successful ones in the history of ŠKODA Motorsports. During the current season, the Fabia S2000 continues to show off its strengths with victories in both the European Rally Championship as well as in the world championship category WRC-2.

suppose they could use a twin charged 1.6 tsi engine for the rapid sport or rapid vrs in keeping naming culture. As i suspect the next octavia vrs will have a power spec in keeping with it's golf gti cousin.

Looks good, but pointless unless they actually produce it whilst giving it a sensible engine(s). Would the 2.0 litre CR 150 fit? Don't believe i just asked for a Diesel engine in a car,
