Popped the whole triangular piece out once whilst rattle hunting. Does have a couple of wires running to it - almost certain it's the solar sensor for the climate control. If fitted of course.

My guess, just a cover for a screw for disassembling the rest of the cover above the speedometer.

The wife's MK II Vrs has climate and the cover is black ( cos I've been to look )
