Parkers comparison - Yeti vs Cashcow

Featured Replies

Whew - I made the right choice (as if I didn't know!).

So did we all :)

I never really considered the Nissan anyway

Thanks for posting this duck pond, good article, and we were looking at leasing a Qashqai even before we knew Yeti's existed.

A lot of crossovers feature the 2wd/auto/lock options as standard these days. It puzzles me why VAG do not offer it it any way, especially on high end models like this Yeti. Nice to see support for the Yeti, even though Cashcows will continue to outsell it.

Did not like Quashqai (Cashcow is a nice name) styling from the day I saw it. Still was thinking if to go for it as I drove 2 Nissans trouble free over last 13 years while I evaluated Yeti, Tiguan and Ford Escape. This article has reassured my choice is right.

Whomever passes my car throws a glance at it. Quite a few other car owners have appreciated my choice. " Looks different from others, beautiful, nice and unique color etc. etc."

What "hit" me in the Qashqai was the windshield / ceiling joint. For real !

While trying to accommodate on the driver's seat at the showroom, raised myself a bit on the seat- as I was used to do in my precedent huge car including an upper front ceiling shelf- I hit my head into that area, as the windshield / roof are very low, In the name of aerodynamics.

That's why Yetis are commented to suffer of wind noise issue (no problem for me comparing to the wind noise of the Fiat Doblo !). But at least- no harm to Yeti driver's heads !

Thanks for the link. I didn't try the Nissan before I adopted a Yeti, maybe I should have I don't know. Me and the Yeti just clicked, it felt right and the price was good for a very low mileage car. I prefer the look of the Yeti and that it's not as common as others in the class although clearly becoming more popular. Even one of the people I share garage access with (we do not speak, short story but don't ask) has been asking my next door neighbour what I though of it and how I was getting on.

I've had no issues with wind noise from my Yeti, maybe because she's a girl and vents discreetly when I'm not around :giggle:

The only wind noise I hear comes from the leather seats, and the less said about that the better.

Anyone notice in the report the manufacturers exaggerated mpg claims - compared to what they got real world.

The 0-60 times also made me chuckle, i have never seen or heard of a cashcow v Yeti race from traffic lights

I'm not saying wind noise on the Yeti is a real issue- just quoting at least one review I read at the time. Neither wind noise is an issue for me.

You should hear what wind noise on the almost upright windshield and high cabin of the Fiat Doblo (MY 2002) is !

Just commented that the good headroom of the Yeti's cabin is achieved upon aerodynamic price, compared to Qashqai.

I don't think aerodynamics really matters that much in the SUVs class. Cabin headroom matters more and Yeti wins against Qashqai.

I did consider a Quashqai, but quickly counted out because:

1. The boot doesn't open high enough and has angled corners, so I'd hit my head on it. As I did in the dealers.

2. The cabin is the "wrap around the driver" type which I don't like. I don't want a snug cockpit.

3. My Nissan dealer is no where near as good as my Skoda dealer by a fair margin!

I considered the QQ before the Yeti,my biggest downer with the QQ is that the 4wd system is only avaiable on two engine sizes, 2lte and 1.6DCI, the 2ltr is eventually being discontinued and the 1.6DCI is not avaiable with a auto box.Plus there is a completley new QQ waiting in the wings for introduction in 2014.

There is always the nagging fact that Nissan Main Dealers are so "full of their own importance", that it beggars belief.

I'm not what you'd consider tall and i did exactly the same, twice.

The Nissan dealer and the Skoda dealer have both, equally, left me feeling a little "meh".

Neither have done anything overly wrong but neither have stood out.

The VW dealer is the best i've come into contact with but they don't have a vehicle that i want.

Good link - thanks for posting.

Coming from nearly 8 years and 140,000 miles with a LWB Grand Scenic 1.9dCi, I did first of all consider a CashCow as a replacement, seeing as the a lot of the base dimensions (same floorpan?), suspension and engines are the same. At least in the QQ+2 anyway, as boot space in a standard QQ wouldn't fit the dog cage in, just like a SWB Scenic. Was put off however when checking out the interior space compared to the Scenic. The prices quoted round me for a 3-year old Yeti and QQ+2 with similar mileages if anything slightly favoured the Yeti - but will the QQ's residuals in another 3-4 years hold up like the Yeti should? The interior materials aren't as good and there are just so many QQs on the road? While I didn't actually suffer a "head on ceiling" issue in the QQ like the poster above, the roof was claustrophobically close, and the rear headroom would have been a definite issue with my eldest daughter, who is the same height as me.

I didn't get long enough in a QQ to decide if ride quality was on a par with the Scenic - but the Yeti is definitely and markedly superior to the latter over the speed bumps where I live, despite its 158mm shorter wheelbase. Which will be a big plus for my family. "Sergei" the Yeti still stays planted and stable when being hustled through the bends though. 10/10.

I'd always prefered the Snow Monster styling over the Nissan, but the clincher came when my brother-in-law threatened never to speak to me again if I bought a Nissan. (He's from the NE and has had, shall we say "issues" with the company after dealings with them as a service supplier to the factory several years back). That said - you have to admire Nissan and everyone who works in the Sunderland factory. The QQ has indeed been a Cash Cow for NE England prosperity since it was launched and the build quality on products out of there is far better than anything with Renault (or now Dacia!) brand labels on them - in my experience anyway.

I knew I'd made the right choice in my Yeti though, within a week of taking ownership. When I discovered I could use it to shift a 6'8" Grandfather clock from my parents house after all. I had first thought I was going to need the Grand Scenic back to do that? But with the front passenger seat folded fully flat, something the Scenic wouldn't actually do, fitting the clock in the Yeti was a doddle! And that dog cage fits a treat too!

The main driver of the Yeti is "our lass" - and she loves it! So it's objective acheived there too. She was dubious when I showed her round a Qashqai though. With our journey pattern the 2.0 CR 110 is giving 46mpg tankful to tankful. Very satisfied with that. Very much doubt if the QQ would acheive the claimed mpg from its Renault based engine? As the Parkers test found. (At the risk of sparking an unecessary change of thread direction I do sometimes wonder why testers even bother to quote the official mpg figures in reviews these days. Perhaps they have to? No one believes the official figures nowadays anyway do they? "Real World" figures "as tested" much more meaningful for everything apart from calculating company car tax and road fund licence, surely?).

Last word: I'm convinced that whoever designed the rear seat layout, movement, and folding/removal mechanism in the Yeti, had shortly before taken a long hard look at a Grand Scenic. Only this time decided the same ideas should "be done properly"! 'Nuff said?

I did consider a Quashqai, but quickly counted out because:

Just the name put me off!

Just the name put me off!

Much better name than Toyotas "Urban Cruiser".

My mum bought a QQ this time last year and loves it - needless to say I don't.

Have hit my head numerous times on the boot, am too tall to get comfortable and the rear camera is carp!

No matter how many times I said Yeti, she wasn't having it (a bit of badge snobbery, although she won't admit that) and it was a toss up between the Kuga and QQ......... because they're 'pretty' (women :wonder: :peek: )

She would have rolled over and let the salesman do his worst, she picked the wrong day to take me in there :D

In the end she got a blinding deal (thanks to me) and is over the moon - not seen the salesman since though

Would I buy one, NOPE just as long as she's happy in it for the next 2 -3 years!!

Alleycat, have to agree with the Urbancruiser name, not Toyota,s best naming of a car, but our family had 3 urbans and except for the Petrol 2wd version ( a complete waste of time and money) the 1.4 D4d AWD was a good, solid if not overpriced SUV.It took a lot of persuading by my better half to consider buying the Yeti ( glad she did) and trading the urbancruiser. The fact that Toyota withdrew the Urbancruiser last year from it,s European line up mainly because it was under-pinned from the old Yaris finally changed my mind, so Toyota,s loss was Skoda,s gain.I still think that Toyota short changed the Urbancruiser and priced itt way above what it should have been, and they paid the price in the end.

Why I now travel further afield into Lincolnshire to have our cars serviced; none of the dealers round here are up to much sadly.

A fish eye lens no doubt..........

One of the things which bugs me about this forum, when people have to come up with some, IMO, pathetic made up name for the competition

Why the hell not just call it what it is, a Qashqai

Rant over

Ok Cashcow,Puke doesn,t bug me, QQ is just a play on letters from the Nissan name of the car, but how many Forum members call the Octavia a "Octy"? Sorry Brimma but cannot agree with your rant.
