Door Card Damage

Featured Replies

Just bought this lovely VRS but the driver's door card has some damage.

Can anyone suggest what I could do with this? I'm looking around for door cards on eBay but there doesn't seem to be much.

Cheers

Very common, they all do it eventually. I would try a scrapyard for a replacement, although finding one without the bubbling is going to be difficult.

One tip, never drive using that part of the door as an elbow rest.

I Tryed for 18 months and couldn't get one. New from skoda there over €400.

I have the same but not half as bad!

Ive been looking for a year with no luck!

All the ones on ebay are the same or the seller will only sell the whole trim,

I found one in a scrap yard but they wanted £250!

Im just gona live with it!

Same here and havent found one in 3 months of searching :(

Balls. I've just bought this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111095503509 and in my fervour forgot to check the fitting. This only shows as compatible for the estate. Are they much different? Any chance the top bit will just fit on my hatch door card?

At the very least I suppose I could somehow take some of the covering off and glue together so it looks a bit better.

!WIN!

if anyone has a rough pair of front door cards they want to sell on please PM me! I want a pair to do speaker builds on so condition is not important at all as it would be getting re-trimmed..

Thanks, Mark.

Can't think why????

Hi,

This is under parts already removed from the car.

Doors + Door Parts O/S/F Door Card so drivers side has been sold.

For much less than £400 wanted by a dealer and probably less than £250 from scrappers, you could likely get all 4 retrimmed in something suitable at a decent retrim company.

If they can do a leather dash, they can do anything the door cards throw at them.

Is this an issue with all mk2 Octavias or limited to a specific batch? I pretty much always drive with my elbow on the door top. I've been hunting an Octavia VRS for a while now so if there are specific ones to aim at that don't suffer this fate I'd be keen to know!

My June 2011 build Octy vRS has done this... I was just gonna get the top of all 4 doors done in a black Alcantara or suede. Fixes the problem of it ever happening again, as the suede can stretch/flex whereas the OEM vinyl can't.

Also, will look much better too...

All up I was quoted AU$500 for the lot from a pro trim shop. :)

Would u not just get one under warranty ?

pretty poor i think

I seriously doubt it would be a warranty issue as it is effectively damage caused by misuse, and something that has not failed because of manufacturing defects. It is certainly not an issue with just the OP's car, it is across the whole range, and short of a global recall to replace, which they won't do as it isn't a safety issue, it is a issue that they will say is avoidable and purely cosmetic.

Mike

true, people should just look after their stuff and take care.. I wouldn't blame Skoda for basically saying it's not their fault.

I've driven pretty much every car I've owned like this. I was looking at my current vehicle just now and after six years there's no hint of damage! and my current car is a vauxhall! Is it unusual and unpredictable behaviour to rest an elbow on the door? How do I get retrained?

I always used to do it in previous cars, but the Octavia just feels more comfortable resting on the armrest so once sorted I probably won't do it again.

It seems like the best way is just to remove the top bit and swap that rather than the larger leather or fabric bit in the middle.

Those plastic welds are a pain though. Not sure on the best way to remove and then resecure.

I don't agree. If you swap the panel in the middle you are not compromising the strength and rigidity of the door card itself. Its only a 15 minute job to swap the panel over.

Mike

I might call on your assistance again here Mike! I've got a set of leather vRS door cars in the garage and wouldn't mind changing that section over.

Which reminds me, I might have a set of door cards for sale too. Need to think about that.

So just the white part?

Makes sense. The problem is, I need to change the silver insert over too. So I think to get to that I need to take the top bit off.

After reading this ive had a closer look at mine. Starting to bubble :-( list of jobs is evergrowing on my car!
