Very slightly OT, but where did you get the bird feeder from?

Sick n tired of the bloody pigeons scoffing all the birdseed.

Thanks

It came in a set from one of our local garden centres............the pigeons still get at it though :(

Great pics Bryan :)

Not seen greenfinches for a while. I get the odd goldfinch appear, but typically get magpies, rooks and jackdaws

Stunning little birds :)

If you're interested in birds of prey there's a great falconry centre in Biggleswade in Bedfordshire. A little bit out of the way admittedly, but they do great experience days. I did the owl and eagle half day experience last Friday

We've got a small one about 5 miles down the road from me........should make more use of it, I've only been once :(

Another great one to visit if you're ever down this way is called eagle heights.

They are the only place in Europe that bring a cheetah into a display. You could get some fantastic photos of that

I miss loads of places being this far oop north :(

That's true. Not really explored that way. There is a nice seal sanctuary in Skegness if that's not too far?

There's a nice beach that (at the right time) has approximately 1000 seals on it that's not too much further away as well. Do a search on here and you will find some chubby pup photos!

Blakeny point off Norfolk is a great place for seals

Why does this not surprise me, Andy?

@seb.........are you sure about that? 100% sure?

You need the ones with cages round to stop the big birds.

I have these and they work very well.

They make photos impossible though as the small birds always have their heads stuck through the larger outer cage.

Nice pics Brim. :)

We have a Jay visiting the garden occasionally, but am still to get a decent shot of the thing.

Thanx Richard, I'll see if I can find one.

Birds of prey centres...

Hawks conservancy in Andover. Ruddy good day out and the flying displays are natural rather than birds doing tricks. It's an experience having ruddy great vultures swooping over your head from behind!

Their experience days are worth the cash too. Pub lunch an' all :)

Is that the one at the shuttleworth collection?

The last time I was there, admittedly about 10 years ago, the birds were in a right state. They looked quite uncared for.

Dirty cages and scruffy grounds.

I hope it has improved since then?

Are they not siskins ?

Close. Greenfinches are quite common here, so much so that the occasional visiting siskin is not immediately noticeable. The greenfinch at rest shows one dominant yellow stripe that roughly follows the line of the body. The siskin has two, that seem to run diagonally from chest to back; its back is more speckly, too.

(I only know the easy ones! :notme: )

I'm not sure. The place was the British school of falconry. They have a few other hangars and a radio controlled airoplane field

I've got a great app called British birds/ birds of Britain and Ireland pro. Wasn't the cheapest app, cost £12 but it is very concise. Has many pictures, photos and recordings of the calls to help you identify them

Yeah, that's the one.

It's changed a lot now so all the birds are well cared for and the cages are clean (apart from the malting birds)
