02 Octavia vRS -

Featured Replies

Got an 02 Skoda Octavia vRS, done 96k and rising daily, good comfy cruiser and not bad on fuel....but I'm itching to get an old VW and want to swap it for a Golf MK2.

The Octavia isn't mint. The 2 main things that let it down are the windscreen having a massive crack in it (needs replacing) and the drivers rear door doesnt open. Its either deadlocked, the door microswitch or the lock mechanism itself, I've not looked into it as its just me and my GF using it, so its not been a priority - plenty of threads on here about it. There is a pair of door lock mechanisms to replace that come with the car. Other than those things, its the standard carparking scuffs and marks from 12 years of daily duties really, a few marks have been touched up but nothing that can't be sorted in a weekend.

On the plus side, its taxed and tested to January, and has the important cambelt, waterpump and tensioner done in the last 3k. Its standard vRS spec too, so half leather, air con, elec windows x4, alloys, big(ish) brakes etc, 180bhp on tap from the 1.8T 20v (its the AUQ from the TT) so more than enough to have fun with. I've had the headunit replaced with a Kenwood double din touchscreen unit, and added a JBL 10in sub and amp built into custom boxes in the boot, so no space is lost. And its a mahooosive boot anyway....

Taking into account the things listed above, I'm valuing it at £1950 ono, which is fair I think as I bought it in January for £2250, then put the stereo into it. I'm not a believer in tarting up cars to sell, so the images above are 'as is', its needs a good clean but its an honest car.

I'm really wanting a Golf Mk2 as a straight swap, or car plus cash my way. I'd like a 3dr which is as "done" as possible, so with nice or rare wheels and coilovers, not too fussed about engine mods but got to be something which needs little or no work. Needs to be taxed and tested too, 6 months + preferably.

Let me know what you have and I'll see if we can work something out. Nearly forgot, the car can be viewed in Newark or Lincoln, whichever suits you.

glws, you put it on any of the mk2 forums, might be an idea as only a few of us with mk2s as well on here, and mot aren't for sale/swap that i know of.

as a suggestion, fix the crack on your insurance, should only be £50. It would put me off looking. and may others.

Cheers dude, I tried posting it on Club GTi but its not appeared (probs because its my first post) and on Edition 38 but I don't have enough posts on there. Its on Retro Rides though.

I forgot to mention, the coilpacks were replaced in January under the Skoda recall via my local main dealer, Dennis Horton Skoda in Lincoln. And Autoglass are coming out on Monday to change the screen, so that'll be done and dusted. I'm going to have a go at polishing out some of the marks this weekend too.

good plan dude,

what about golfgti.co.uk, you can post on there with under 100 posts, so should be able to get an ad up. Lots of mk2 users on there too.

Cheers, its now up on there too. Got quite a few of the marks and scratches out now. Seen a Mk2 I want, so £1750 takes this.

I would have considered this but im not quite there with the funds yet thanks to a broken boiler :( Good luck with the sale though and kudos for getting some of the issues sorted

bump...

Good work on sorting the scratches, worth the effort imo

what mk2 you after?

  • Author

Autoglass came and did the screen today, so thats now done. If I can borrow a wet-vac, then I'll tidy up the interior too.

Golf-wise, I'm wanting a Mk2 GTI in 3dr flavour, not fussed about 8v or 16v. Got to be big bumpers though, and have tax and test similar to mine. Some lows and nice wheels are a bonus but not a deal-breaker.

Where are you based?

  • Author

I live in Newark, Notts, and spend half the week with my GF in Lincoln, so it can be viewed in either location.

So, seeing as I now own this:

V88OoT.jpg

I don't need a Mk2 now. So, to that end, I can do the Octavia for £1650 with stereo, or £1500 without headunit/sub/amp/boxes. I don't know if I can find the stock Symphony unit or autochanger, so assume it doesn't come with one.

Got to be the cheapest vRS under 100k?

coolio, whats the spec? looks like you have red calipers!

small bumper at least...how they should be imo

has it had a 5stud/widetrack conversion as those look like 5x100 audi alloys unless they are g60/passat steels with audi centres?

  • Author

Yep, widetracked with VR6 hubs and 288mm brakes, a K&N with a fruity exhaust and some FK coilovers but otherwise standard, nice base to have some fun with.

In Octavia news, the rear door has now freed itself off and seems to be working as it should now. First time in 6 months it has done! No change in price but while its open, it'd be best for the buyer to swap the lock mech and take it off the CL system to stop it happening again.

Very interested in this.  PM sent your way! Cheers

PoloTom came and had a look at this today, liked it but for what he wanted it for, it probably wasn't the right car for him, so its still here. I need it gone ASAP as I want to get that Mk2 insured and do some work to it!

  • Author

Still here. £1500 takes it.

Whats the realistic mpg on these, around town and on a decent run?

29ish in town and with a very light right foot 40+ on a run

Yep I do 95% town and get 27-28mpg.

Ooft.......big difference from what im used to but my mileage has came down alot.......

  • 1 month later...

Still for sale?

seems brilliant for the price! wish I had a spare 1650, I've been debating on keeping/selling my fabia at some point
