Was on another site the other day(truck simulator) and noticed they had a PayPal account setup so that people could contribute towards the running costs.

Got me thinking about Briskoda -- Colin and the guys do a great job with this site - but we are growing at a very quick rate - I for one would be happy to contribute a small amount towards running costs -- as apart from the stickers - I don't see any other way the site can generate funds to build on.

What do you think ??

This is an issue which props up every once in a while. Colin insists he can run the site without any external funds, but I think we all agree that some sort of pay back is needed to help him. Buying the stickers is one way, a 'donate' button is another. I think he is still (along with all those other projects on the go) thinking of the best way to go forward on it.

I used to be on a Bimmer forum when I had the 320d and they had the same problem. The solutions they came down with include the following:

1. Make embroidered hats.

2. Make Sweaters.

3. Get tuning shops or vendors to sponsor the site.

Hope any of those suggestions may help. I'm actually located outside of Europe and becuase my credit cards issuing country is not in accordance with Paypal, I can not use that means to donate to the site. It would help if someone suggested another way to make the donation (and even for me to get stickers!).

I'm sure the guy's would be prepared to send a sticker -- as long as the required additional postage was paid of course :D

I know PayPal isn't an ideal solution,I think that it has been said before that the site doesn't require additional funding, however I do feel that it would more than likely benefit from this -- esp if on a voluntary basis.

This could, as you say be in form of merchandise -- but of course this relies on being able to secure products at a rate that enables the site to make a small profit from them.

Just thought it would open up an avenue for a few suggestions -- the more the merrier. ??

What's a PayPal account ?

it should really be left to Colin / Ian they are the admins and its their baby... i know many of us would be prepared to donate time and money to the greater good... dont forget the mods already give up their time...

to make it into a "pay" club may present Col/Ian with other issues that they dont want to deal with - TAX/VAT/Accountants... so we shouldntj ust rush in?

Everyone should cover their cars with briskoda stickers. How much for one a foot high that runs the length of the side of the car? Briskoda "motorsport" sunstrip?

edit: looked into paypal for ebay - turns out you have to pay extra charges when using it, so still rely on the good 'ole cheque for buying stuff.

I use PayPal all the time, it's only about a 4% surcharge, it's a good and easy way to collect payments for this sort of thing. I for one would be happy to make a small contribution to rhe running costs of this great site. However, as someone pointed out, it's up to the admins ........ :)

http://www.paypal.com

It's an electronic banking system where you create an account and fund it from either a debit or credit card. You can then send and receive money to and from other registered users just by typing in an email address and an amount. The payee pays a surcharge (a percentage plus a flat fee) for each transaction. Much used (along with others such as Nochex) for online auction payments.

Not trying to step on any toes -- just thought it was worth mentioning -- as has been said - the guy's already put a great deal of their own time into this -- I'm sure any help would be good -- I suggested PayPal as it's a low maintenance thing ie if we had say sweatshirts or similar - someone has to store them, order them and dispatch them -- just taking up extra time for the Mod's.

I don't see it making as a "Paying" Club - as it would be totally voluntary payment -- therefore(I think) would avoid the hastles mentioned above.

I think hard work always deserves recognition.

Based upon this and other discussions and with thanks to alot of testing from Quinten, we have the first step of this in place. There will be enhancements to the service as this paypal option is only first step, nochex and other methods will follow shortly, with integration to other suggestions.

If you encounter any problems or have any questions, feel free to ask me.

The link is at the bottom of each and every page. Also check your control panel/options if you wish to publish your donation.

For overseas and/or non paypal compliant users, drop me a PM on solutions in your region and I'll see what I can do.

(stickers still available through the usual channels ;) tho they will move to an online shop before too long)

verily, 'tis a good idea.

How large is the fee which Paypal subtract?

Rob.

Yup a great idea -- I'm sure plenty of people will be happy to donate -- can only be of benefit.

What's with the stars? Is it like McDonalds or is it for good behaviour?

it's like mcd's, you have to leave your date of birth alone for 6months before you get any ;)

Rob,

A very good question, it is thus:

3.4% of Transaction +

PS: Talking of stickers - Is anyone bringing any sample one's to the RPM meet? I'd like to offer up a little one & a big one to my rear screen and then shell out the usual

just tried to make a donation - put in all my details and was pressing the confirm button/something similar ( after it had said it was charging 2 bucks extra to my card ) - the page froze and then said donation cancelled :(

will try again later when i know i haven't been already debited.

Huck,

I asusme by that combination, there was a new registration process aswell. Thats at paypals side. The charge to your card is to verify you, could of just taken the number of a reciept etc. Once confirmed you do get that back, just a pain of trying to be secure versus ease of use.

No payment is shown as pending. So thats just the registration process. Check your account with paypal and then then try again. Although to be fair you don't actually need to verify the 4 digit number, least I didn't in testing, just the email initially.

So it's more efficient to pay you with an unmarked envelope full of used fivers? :D

Rob.

Indeed it is possible via any other means of payment to make a donation, just only one is fully automated presently. Sticker purchases will be updated soon, so alot more of you will be listed. I can add in manual payments to account for cheques recieved or brown envelopes in the pub carpark.

Any idea what the exchange rate is on payment in kind ? ;)
