Oh dear...

It's the second time is happened for me.

Came up behind an interesting, black, very shiny, nippily driven, unfamiliar car with a rear end festooned with horizontal creases and two diagonal convex-seeming hyper-reflective areas by the number plate.

"Funny", I thought out loud - though I couldn't hear myself because of the wind in what is left of my greying locks of hair - "I wonder what that shiny new black motor car is."

A modicum of increased pressure from my right, sandal encased, naked foot on the shiny silver right-hand pedal - no, scrub that - right-FOOT pedal - resulted in a satisfying growl from the shiny straight-six double-shanked exhaust device, adding to both the aural interference of the balmy evening air of the A470 atop the Brecon Beacons, AND the forward momentum of that in which I sat, as we set off in glorious pursuit of the identification that would satisfy my now well aroused curiosity.

We progressed like magnets. As I began to draw ever closer, he, sensing my nearness, responded with a similar turn of speed and, like magnets with like poles apposed, the space between was never-diminishing.

This was frustrating.

So I did what anyone on a quest would do.

I floored it.

And caught him up, whereupon I was able, with my rheumy old wind-whipped, drippy eyes, to make out the shiny silver words that spelt manufacturer and model. It didn't, perhaps surprisingly,read manufacturer OR model, but Skoda and Octavia. (Nope, not even a Yeti FL2 in disguise).

But, as the title might have alerted you, assuming you've been arsed to follow this thus far, it was THAT BADGE that finally caused me to squirm and pivot.

It really did look like the beastly Vauxhall effort, and, being honest - I felt sad. Sad because, when the inevitably marvellous Yeti FL, Yeti 2, Yeti + 2, et al finally satisfy our insatiable appetites for all things Yeti, they will all bear this confusing, shiny, silver monochrome thing... ...

And I felt so sad, I just HAD to write it down and share it with YOU, the Yetifolk.

Oh,the Badge?

I agree...much prefer the old one.

Nice story but i disagree. I prefer the new logo. From a design aesthetic there is less faff and pointless embelishment but enough of the old logo to retain some heritage. Both my cars have the old logo so its not Bias.

 

P.S. were you on the moonshine when you wrote that

My Roomster has the new badge and the SKODA moniker on the rear hatch.

 

I like the new badge - looks especially good in the centre of the steering wheel.

I didn't even read it all the way to the end myself.......

I thought it was quite amusing - but he got me at "what is left of my greying locks of hair"; Ah! a post from someone in my age group, I thought. Let's be fair even old Bill Shakespeare probably wouldn't have been at his best 02:21. And yeah, I confess I do prefer the laurels badge to the new one, which to me looks a bit like a deranged chicken. (That might be down to needing new specs though).

Funnily enough, on the way into the Heritage Motor Centre this morning there was a Mk3 Vauxhall Astra directly ahead of me. It stopped when it reached the steward, and the driver was having a seemingly-interminable conversation with him determining whether to carry straight on towards the show-parking area or turn left into the visitors' car park.

 

Eventually, it pulled off to the left, and I moved forward to speak to the steward. The first thing he said to me was "I wish the Skoda and Vauxhall badges didn't look so bloomin' similar!"

Freshacre can tell a good yarn :clap: .  Not everyone appreciates that but (as we so often have to say here) each to his own
