OK, so the obtruding triangles are almost hidden in that view.

That's what I've been saying from the outset TP! They looked pronounced on the first CGI images due to the lighting but they are really very flat. I'm in Frankfurt right now but will only go to the show tomorrow.

  • Well it's still an impressive car and it still is clearly a Yeti.  Just that the tiny bit they moved it on, does not warrant the cost-to-change numbers for me.  It has not remotely moved on enough fro

Don't forget your ruler, Johann!

+1 for measurement of rear badge please.

Making me jealous Johann, about 25 years ago since I managed to get to one of the big motor shows

Be interested in your thoughts on those projections once you have seen the FL but the photo's and video's of the real thing still suggest there excessive to my eye.

Oh and enjoy the show :)

The last motor show I went to was as a nipper in the early 80's. The only car I remember seeing was a Nissan Sunny, which I thought was the business and I desperately wanted my old man to buy one! The reason I kept thinking about it was Datsun had just changed to the Nissan brand and I thought that this was a masterstroke of inspiration. In hindsight, the Sunny was possibly the most bland car out there at the time! Skoda, as you can imagine, did not have the greatest name then.....

My driving instructor had a Nissan Sunny, although I failed my first test in it back in early 1984  Blame a Porsche driver for putting me off racing round a roundabout :giggle:

Took my next test a few weeks later in my mums Austin Metro, which had been imported from Belgium and undergone a lhd to rhd conversion and passed :whew:

Can you imagine trying to convert a modern car of today in such a way

I also think the top of the grille looks leagues better.  I made this image below to show the two side by side for easy comparison (click on the photo to see it bigger):

It is pretty clear now how much lower this new one sits than the old one.

wow, if that off-road version is same low I won't buy it. Starts happening with yeti what happened with rav4 :(

now it's a bigger citgo...

It seems the new Yeti is following the latest  'origami' look that seems to be developing in car design....

The new "Outdoor" is no lower than the current 4x4, so I don't know what you are looking at!

It has exactly the same underpinnings and suspension.

All that has changed is it's face and the hatch!!

RAV4? Looks like the ignore list is due a new addition.

Fred

Ignore the ride height on both models, it will be all but identical to the current Yeti.

Skoda (and the rest of the VAG) have been lowering their computer aided pre-launch designs for years.

Slighlty enlarged wheels and tyres fill the arches creating a sleeker and more attractive profile.

Another example of Skoda's clever marketing strategy.

You couldn't even get your little finger between the top of the tyre and the wheelarch nevermind the hosepipe...

Even the vRS doesn't ride as low as this!

I seems a nice looking Yeti. I have one concern though, I have always thought that rear number plates had to be fitted vertically. How can this be accomplished on this FL rear door.

No. Legislation says that it has to be fitted so that it is visible in normal useage. Verticallity is not mentioned specifically (in UK C & U Regs)

Loving the black effect headlights.

That looks more panda than Yeti, but I guess that name's taken.

My flight back was delayed by an hour coming back so I only got to bed at 1:30 this morning. I'll post pics in due course (and badge measurements)

All I'll say is I'm keeping my Yeti quite a while longer.

So you're not impressed after viewing in the metal?

Thanks, Johann - and I do share your concerns about the 'tacky' all white and the hideous grilles on the outdoor!

Thankfully, I've no plans/need to change for a while, just rolled over to 20k.

I might run to a tailgate badge though - will keep an eye on ETKA for a part number!

Thank you johann, interesting and balanced observations.....

All very interesting and useful pictures. I decided to place my order last month so as to get a pre-FL model as I was not too impressed by the early computer generated images of the FL model. I do not regret my decision now (a relief); as others have remarked previously, some of the "character" has gone - although in practical terms that does not matter I suppose ...

I can see what will become one of Superskoda's next items to make for the FL.  A chrome grille ala the Chinese version:

Thanks for posting these photos Johann! You get a much better idea when seeing the car in the 'flesh' so to speak than the computer generated images.

The grille has a BMW feel about it? At the end of the day, I hope it's a big sales success for Skoda.

the lamps switch same as in octavia - looks cheap :(
