I've just looked out the brochure I tucked away when I bought my current Yeti.  It gives ground clearance of 180mm as standard and 155mm on the Greenline II.  Facelift blurb says 180mm so OK from my point of view as I wouldn't accept reduced off road ability.  Shame about the fog lights and the new position makes them more vulnerable to damage off road but I think we all knew it was going to happen.  I won't be changing for at least another couple of years so decision will depend on what else is around at the time.

I'm due to replace my Yeti next November and judging by the FL model photos, I will seriously consider buying another 4x4 snow monster. However, since the first FL images that have been shown throughout this site, some owners have expressed deep disappointment that the round foglights would be discontinued. In fact, a few have declared that they would not buy another Yeti if the lights were not retained. I find this very strange! What are they going to replace it with? How many other vehicles have a similar set up - the Nissan Juke! Anyway, each to their own.

Just to emphasise how much I enjoy the Yeti, I drove an Audi Q5 today from Aberdeen to Glasgow and felt it drove no better than my own vehicle. Whilst it had every conceivable extra fitted to it, the Yeti is still a fantastic all round vehicle.

The press release says Skoda implemented GreenTec on three of the engine options. I wonder what stops them from implementing it on the entire engine range. They could have atleast offered GreenTec as an optional extra. It makes a big difference for us in countries where the insanely high first time registration tax on the vehicle is strongly linked to its CO2 emmissions.

Love the outdoor/scout version.

Just a pity the boot isn't big enough......................

I really hope it's not "Outdoor".

What's the other one going to be called, "indoor".

Please Skoda, call it a Scout like the Fabia/Roomster/Octy have!

No the other variants are to be prefixed" soft road "

Will be interesting to see if the rear camera makes it to the UK given VW have just pulled it as an option on the new Golf. Seems mixture  under estimating demand and other "technical issues". VW Customer services confirming it's an option that will not return to the UK Golf

In my view the original Yeti had a friendlier face. The new ones have a bit of a mean and angry face. I still find the front quite appealing from the bonnet level down to the number plate. The headlights and grill looks pretty nice. However on the 'Outdoor' version everything below the level of the front number plate looks a bit awful. Same with the back bumper. The zigzagging way in which the black plastic part merges with the body coloured part is a bit too much. The 'Urban' version holds more appeal for me.

How long will the paint survive on those painted sills, I wonder?

I think the Scout name will live on in the Octavia3. They only used outdoor for the Superb because VAG wouldn't let them have a proper Scout.

The way I see it:

4x4: Normal car, 4x4 (think the Octy 3 4x4 has standard ride height?)

Outdoor: As above but with Scouty type styling

Scout: More proper off road version with raised ride height and greater underbody protection.

But the Scout name has also been applied to Fabia, Roomster without any additional ride height etc etc. In fact, they give them very low profile tyres which make the Roomster and Fabia Scouts less useful off road than the regular versions?

Oh yeah, doh! I had one aswell :giggle:

Maybe those will be dropped from the range when the Fabia 3 debuts though and any faux-off road version of that will be called "Outdoor"?

I think that I will have to wait to see each variant in the flesh. From the photographs I prefer the outdoor version as it still retains the more rugged feeling. But I can gaurentee that the green line version will not be available in this model.

Not as bad as I first thought it would look, will be watching my local dealer for the new model when it arrives.

Yup, I like the changes. Also like the Outdoor in 'Jungle' (??) green - would be awesome if it has a touch of pearlescence as in Tibetan Bronze. I wonder if the  'metal grey' will be like the Octavia III vRS 'Meteor Grey' - sort of a stylish grey primer...

Quite amusing that so many here said 'best they keep the original fogs or else' - and now the vast majority say 'I like that'! ;)

I was one of those people who said please keep the fogs, but I'm glad I was wrong. Still looks like a yeti, but with an upmarket style.

Just need to see what Skoda UK offer us as options/ variations.

Would love to see the outdoor with green line. But betting that this will not be available

That is the quandary, what to replace a real Yeti with :wonder:

The FL from the pictures so far is not to my liking and add to that the ever increasing cost of new metal, has made me really question why replace what I’ve got. So I’m beginning to wonder how long I can keep the current one going without excessive maintenance/repair costs, rather than replace it as traditionally I might after 2 or 3 years (about now in other words).

None of Skoda’s current new line-up particularly jumps out and grabs you as interesting like the Yeti did when she first arrived and other manufacturer’s present offerings are no better; cars are getting rather dull and in some cases blotted these days.

I expect there will be some cracking deals to be had on any pre-fl models kicking around at dealers/Skoda UK's depot. They must have some or they wouldn't be advertising the pre-facelift on tv at the moment I presume?

Yes thought of that and a good idea but be difficult to match my current optioned spec; think at the very least I'd miss the heated screen for quick winter evening get aways from work and 17" alloys again

TP, you aren't overly enthused by the new Yeti and yet you own a Fabia? Do you not prefer the look of the new Yeti (in either spec) to the Fabia?  It will be interesting to see the proper photos at the Frankfurt Show but so far I think it looks great (in Outdoor spec).

I wonder how long it will be before Skoda dealers start offering round foglight accessory packages (rally/Mini style) for buyers of the new model who miss their round bits.

It seems Top Gear aren't keen on the FL...

I think it look good, but, it most definitely looks more like other cars on the road, where as the current yeti really does stand out - you just can't miss one driving towards you on a road. I think the new one will blend in a lot more. But I guess that's what the masses want as the original yeti was always a little controversial...

Edited by retro gal

No one can answer this yet Retro-gal.  But be assured that whatever we want and deem logical will be the opposite of what SUK will give us...

Thanks for the info :)

I don't think Skoda had any intention of keeping the round lights as it didn't fit in with the new "corporate" face - eventually it was going to get the chiselled look in line with the Rapid, Octavia FL and Superb FL.

...and SUK, if you wonder what to call it please just call it the Scout (as per the rest of your range).  Ta muchly.

I think they'll call it "Outdoor" in line with the Superb Outdoor? But agreed Rufty Tufty does have a certain ring about it.

I think both versions look absolutely fine. I'd choose the outdoor one personally.

The FL is a very minor update in my view, not nearly enough to consider chopping mine in.

I eagerly await the new 2016 version based on MQB. I think that will create a lively and interesting thread.

Interesting cover on that Top Gear magazine you linked to!   :giggle:
