Why is the optical parking assistant called "brand new" if the rear view camera is optional? Why is it called "optical" at all? Does anyone know whether there really is something new in it apart from the camera option? I apologize if this was already discussed.

Perhaps because cameras are by their nature optical devices?  See this post:

But yes the "brand new" PA is silly.  They have just added the perpendicular bays AND the ability to get you out of spaces and not just in.  So it has "brand new" features but certainly is not brand new as an option no.

Why is it called "optical" at all?

It's how it's branded on the Golf - my wife's 1.4TSi has this as standard with the RVC. Slightly fancier graphics but it does much the same job. Not an explanation I know, but they're just carrying through pre-existing terminology/branding on similar models elsewhere in the VW empire.

I think you are right, Johann.

Reading the latest release from SUK it certainly appears that the LED DRL's only go with the HID lights.

That means hopefully that the others will be something like 2 H7 bulbs, which should be an improvement.

Perhaps a VAG stipulation as you only get led DRLs with Xenon's fitted on Vw & Audi.

Perhaps.  But think about it, if you only make two different headlights then the one will be halogen with some sort of cheaper (halogen based) DRL and the other type is the Xenon.  Which you might as well then fit LEDs too since this will be fitted only to higher spec cars and you have to redesign the headlight to fit the Xenons anyway.  Job done.   :giggle:

oauuu what the pages... I can not wait to see to the dealer a Yeti Facelift for decided if the front lower grill will be the same. ...from the version Yeti off-road of course.

regarding the Skoda.UK write-up.

It mentions using "5th Generation Haldex"

The wikipedia page for the yeti mentions our existing ones using "4th Generation Haldex"

Can somene advise what is the difference?

And if possible, will this improve the yeti performance off-road and in icy conditions?

thanks

I started a thread on that when the Golf VII came out. So your answer is here:

Thanks Johann, that's really clarified the issue. :smirk:

That's why I did not even try to answer it in this thread but pointed spank_inferno (!) to that thread.

Oh dear poor old SM :'(

Mmmm....Looks O.K. generally, but I'm not sure about those lights at the bottom corners of the front bumper.

They look a bit of an afterthought to me.

Maybe the Indoor/City version will look better?

Agree about the front bumper!

Rear doesn't look too bad, but agree the front fog lights are much too small. There is no "balance" there.

Agree with above, those fog lights and the clumsy surrounding bodywork looks like they thought 'hmmmm where are we going to stick the fog lights?' Perhaps it may look better when viewed 'in the flesh' but not very hopeful :|

Rather a dichotomy for me.

On one hand, I've now had two years of looking at the current Yeti (the first year spent just finding it and then learning about it, and the second year on the waiting list and finally owning one!).  Familiarity breeds, well, satisfaction?

However, on the other hand, if the 2011-12 Yeti had then in fact looked like the FL now apparently will/does, I doubt that the simple lack of big fogs would have put me off.  I wouldn't have known what was missing.  I will have to see what the tech spec is to see whether anything there would have changed things.

So what will you get instead?

So what will you get instead?

Me?  With a year-old Yeti, the question doesn't arise yet - I did use the conditional '...would have changed things'.  The current tech spec is what brought me to the SM in the first place; the appearance was a secondary consideration.

Quite!

If you are inside the car you can't see the outside.

Well, it was the looks from outside that attracted me in the first instance and the good reviews etc sealed the deal. I wouldn't drive a car that I personally didn't find nice to look at. Time will tell if I like the look of the FL when change time arrives in a couple of years.

I like the front!  Guess i'm in the minority. Oh well should make for a shorter waiting list this time round!!!

Quite happy with the new main lights, bonnet and grill but the front and rear bumpers are a mess to my eye, particularly the front bumper of the 4x4 version. Primary school and felt pens spring to mind :giggle:

I hate to contradict such esteemed company  :o but I think that the FL is probably the best looking Skoda in the current range (might change my mind when I see a Rapid Spaceback in the flesh).

The foglights look similar to those on the Evoque which I guess is where the inspiration comes from.

I think the facelift has modernised/freshened up the Yeti quite well, but will reserve full judgement until we see more pics.

Over the next few weeks we will get more and more "leaks" and "spy shots" and "videos" from Škoda like the one above...  Looks good I think.  Again we need to see the car in the metal to finally judge.  And so far it looks like it will be the 16th of September for me as I'll be at the Frankfurt motor show!  Yay.

As someone said above: had we never laid eyes on the bug eyed current version and had this come out first, 99% of us would probably have bought a Yeti anyway.  There is so much more that makes a Yeti a Yeti in terms of practicality, it's size, handling, dash, styling, engines and all that, that the bug eyes were really a very small part of what made most people buy it I suspect.  So the melodrama about their loss is a bit moot in my view.  Who bought their Yeti ONLY because of those lights and for none of the other good points?  No one I'd suspect.  And like the bug eyes took time for some people to get used to and then be loved, I can guarantee you all now that we will all get used to the smaller fogs, where they sit and how the car looks.  That is just how the human mind works.  We don't like change, moan when it happens and before we know it our eyes and mind got used to it and can't even remember why we were against it.  The Yeti is still a square box and still looks TOTALLY different from ANY other competitor in this segment so will still be bought in the same numbers as now (if not more).

One important thing the video does confirm though is that the car's ride height is unaltered and the gaps between the wheels and wheel arches are as they are now and not as per the boy-racer 3D images they released first.
