Citigo First Service.

Featured Replies

Well, first service tomorrow after a year of trouble free motoring. Reckon they will actually do anything to it?

I got 3years free servicing when I bought it. Only small thing is the driver side window washer just spits at me, hopefully that will come under warranty ,what do you think?

It should do, and probably just needs a pin stuck down it to unblock it.  Make sure you point it out.  I have always been very cynical about servicing.  When something is working as it should, what does it really need done to it, and even if it is supposed to be done, do dealers actually do it when you will never know the difference.

Does the CitiGo have "fan jets" like most other VAG cars these days? If so, the old "pin down the nozzle" trick doesn't work, and you actually need a new one.

When mine was serviced about 2 weeks ago all it was was an oil change

Just oil change? lol..glad I got free deal then.

I think they are fan jets, tried unblocking doesnt seem to do much.

First service checklist is all in the handbook iirc. On my Fabia it was a while-u-wait job took about 40 minutes.

I would assume the wash jet should be a warranty issue - I can't see how they could argue it is wear and tear!

Strangely, there is NO service checklist in the service handbook it says "oil-change service" or "inspection service", with no further details.

No, I didn't believe it either. (Current Citigo service book).

my local dealer reckons the 4th years service is going to be mega expensive as the service schedule says that alot has to be changed/replaced in its 4th year. Well above £600 :S

I think the first service is really just oil change, new filter and check over.

That's more than it cost for my 4th year service on my C5 III Tourer  (pardon my french).. Can't be correct can it?..

Glad I went for the 2 years extended warranty.. Then at the 4th years service I can go to an unauthorized mechanic to get it done...

There is so much speculation on this but no hard facts. Why would it be expensive. There is no cam/water pump belt to change at 4 years as they are the new designed belts (unless they fail early). So all it could be is plugs, oil, maybe auto box oil, coolant and filters. How can that warrant £600? Has anyone got ElsaWin that they can print out the Citigo service schedule?

Does the Citygo have a cambelt or timing chain?

Skoda UK recommend a cambelt at four years, irrespective of mileage. Their national pricing policy has £349 as the maximum price for a cambelt.

£100 for a waterpump if requested.

An annual oil and filter service is £129.

£45 for a brake fluid change.

£39 for the MOT.

So £662 in total.

4th service is  Oil, Oil filter, Air filter, pollen filter and spark plugs.

Cambelt is also due, would recommended water pump as well as it has a roller on it.

Air conditioning service is also due every 2 yrs

My question is if it's just an oil change and maybe a check over at first service, can my local garage do it? They want to quote me for it as I mentioned it when I last visited, stamp the book and all that. Surely if it's all done correctly why not, would anyone consider having it done by there local outfit, even if you supply the Skoda approved parts, that's oil and filter and maybe air filter?

At this first service do they even remove the wheels to check and clean the brake parts?

when I questioned the dealer we got our Citigo from they said that there is no fixed replacement schedule for the timing/water pump belts as they we of a new design. They only need replacing when they start to deteorate?

Well I have read on the VW Up! forums that the cambelt pully isnt perfectly circular, it has about 1.5mm variation of its Overall diameter, (imagine a trinagle inside a circle, the peaks are the larger OD, the sides are the smaller OD) this has the effect of not keeping the cambelt under constant high tension, allowing for a longer cambelt life (up to 100,000KM's)

That said i think the dealers are just estimating based on existing VAG service schedules i.e. 4years/40,000 miles for a cambelt.

I personally havnt found any definative guide to the Citigo's service schedule and as the cars arent even 4 years old, no ones really knows! I have a feeling it will be like asking a submarine captain how far his submarine can dive to, he doesnt know until he tries it. We DONT know how much the service will cost until we get to that point.

End of the day Stu308 asked about the First service, which is an inspection of the car and an Oil + filter replacement. If you dont want skoda to do it, it has to be done by a garage with approved Skoda parts to ensure the warrenty is kept as with any other car.

I just found this on the Citigo Forum http://www.citigoownersclub.co.uk/forum/

Someone on the above site has posted this with added comments.  'Book says' vs reality.

Love it!

Seriously given the reputation that the motor industry has, do you think that dealers do any of the things they are ment to in a service?  Obvioulsy if you book a car in because something has broken, you will know if they have cured it when you get the car back, but if your car is running fine and it is just going in because the warranty requires a service, how ill you know they have done anything?

Oit! Speaking as an Apprentice myself (albeit electronics), its not how it used to be!

No longer standing around asking for a tin of tarten paint, or Left handed screwdrivers, sky hooks blah blah blah the list goes on! :P

I have emailed Skoda UK and requested the service schedule and what is required to be changed at what time. Will wait and see what information turns up?

Fan jets on the citigo.

Re. Cambelt - I was told 10 years or 100,000 miles by my dealer...

Well, rescheduled service for next week as I cannot find my black book with the service book etc in it. :(

I took out breakdown cover booklet and put it in glove compartment when I first got the car, but now cant find the rest.

If I cannot find it can it all be replaced by Skoda or am I condemed to a life of no service schedules on a car I will have to keep forever as no one will buy it without "FSH" and in 2056 will be driving a what used to be silver citigo but is now an off gold colour and a PID which is now useless as the roads are no longer there as all the cars are flying over my head and with 799.000.000 miles on it?

:)
