Citigo steering problem

Featured Replies

Seems to be after parking with the wheels on lock that this occurs then.

Now...am I brave enough to test it?

Recall for an ECU steering update soon maybe?

  • Very interesting article in today's Auto Express.  I hope there's not a problem with posting this scan of the particular page in question, on here?  Thank you to Auto Express for this article and than

Update. They still can't replicate fault but are taking it seriously in conjunction with Skoda UK. No idea when I'll get the car back but they don't want to give it back having not found the fault.

Thanks for the update

Update. No fault found. Car being returned this afternoon. Back to square one.

Oh dear :(

Are you going to drive it with any confidence from now on though?

Try and make sure the wheels are straight when you park up, worth a shot

No, I'm not happy at all, I have a 400 mile journey to make tomorrow and I'm full of trepidation. I don't suppose there's much else I can do now, just wait until it happens again and video it happening.

FWIW Hope its an uneventful journey

Take care

Thank you :(

If it happens then all you can do is pull over as soon as it's safe and re-set it, turn the car off for a few seconds and then back on. If you capture it on camera then that will be very useful to the dealer tying to re create the fault.

As above, I wish you an uneventful trip.

There is a software fix for a problem that is described as: vehicle pulling to one side on long journeys... Talk to your dealer :-)

Update. Same problem has happened twice since. Skoda say they have some kind of fix and will let me know when it's available. That was a few weeks ago now.

Fingers crossed this fix works then

Keep us informed Jude

Interesting.Just caught up with this thread.Hope you get it sorted and Skoda find a fix for this.

Good luck.

Latest is that a 'fix' is still in the R&D phase.

We'll not hold our breath, but thanks for the update Jude

I'm most surprised that there are not more people experiencing this.  How could my steering system be any different to others built around same time?

Im not sure

Since I read your troubles though, I never EVER park with lock on...Just as a precaution

yes, I have only ever done it to replicate the problem (for my partner to experience, which he did).  I looked around a large carpark yesterday and there were lots of turned wheels, so it's not as if it's a particularly peculiar thing to do?

Not at all

Done it myself loads of times

Just never in a citigo!

I am pretty certain that it was in the handbook for my last car, a Nissan Tiida, that it recommended not to park with the wheels turned.  It might have said full lock.  Didn't state a reason.

I think you are better off straightening the wheel, especially when parking parallel to the pavement, as it gives you more options for getting back out if the vehicle in front and behind have changed positions.

On a hill I also prefer to leave a car in gear. Question: assuming a car is facing downhill should it be in 1st gear, or reverse?

Doesn't matter as long as the car is left in the gear (that's any gear)

I think the 'experts' say in reverse when pointing downhill but leaving the car in any gear is better than no gear and just relying on the handbrake.

Facing downhill -> 1st. gear.

Facing uphill -> reverse gear.

This way engine turns right direction if car moves for some reason. I've noticed this little engine turns a bit almost every time when car is left in gear, without handbrake.

That's the way I have been taught to leave my cars, but some people say the opposite.
