Featured Replies

I have purchased a breaker assembly however I am at a loss with how to replace it on my car it's for nsf

The bit the wheel studs screw into?

Im trying to remove the entire hub assembly - and i cant seem to remove the hub from the driveshaft and everything is undone - does the wheel bearing unscrew at all? i thought it just slid out because its held into a splined surface? I tried the clamps to remove it but ive completely snapped the clamp in two !! :(

they normally just slide out it's not screwed in or anything, they can get quite stiff though and it is down to brute force to get it out, don't use a hammer on the threaded part otherwise you will ruin the cv joint.

If you've undone the hub nut, the driveshaft should come straight out. May need a little tap with a copper dolly and hammer to get it moving.

So I am doing it right then? I was using one of those 3 point clamps on the hub to press out the assembly from the driveshaft but like I said I've tried a hammer on the metal work to loosen it. Wd40 all over, copper grease and the clamp and I'm left with an empty wd40 and snapped clamp :( epic fail!

Pics would help :). If you're trying to separate the drive hub from the bearing you'll fail, they're assembled as one part. To remove the bearing you need a special tool.

I normaly put the nut on a few threads and use a 1/2" small extension bar to hammer them out since I can hit it as hard as I can and it doesn't damg the driveshaft.

Other way is to screw the nut on so it's flush with the end of the driveshaft and use a copper hammer to hit it.

So you've removed the hub nut and the 3 bolts that attach the hub carrier to the wishbone?

I can't hammer it out when it's still attached to the car? And yeah three bolts removed link arm removed caliper and disc too and the assembly is off the suspension arm

Picture of the problem area, even make one in paint or somthing as I'm struggling to picture this now

spoke to a mechanic last night who said u need to bolt it all back on then hit the driveshaft to loosen it then un bolt it all and it slides off..sound good anyone?

Yes a puller - snapped it in half...

I cant even remove the CV i have the rubber casing off however it wont budge the only other option i reckon is to remove the entire driveshaft and press that out!

Just hit the ****ing thing!!!

Tried that hutch

In the end it took a blowtorch, crow bar, gear puller, lump hammer, two normal hammers, steel bar, breaker bar, a socket set and a lot of leverage

ANNNNNDDDDDDDDD

its still stuck...

so we removed the entire arm !

apparantly what happened was that the bearing collapsed and the cv joint melded itself inside and is now fooked !

thanks anyway guys !

It's still worth putting it on a press. It's rare they don't come out. I usually give up at 15T.

Glad you got it sorted Aaron!

I needed to replace a front wheel bearing on a 2007 [Mk1 TDi Estate] Fabia a few weeks ago. [i have the correct tools for removal and installation of the bearing assembly]. Unfortunately the outer driveshaft joint was seized solid into the hub flange. It never did move even with lots of heat, lots of swearing and using a 30 ton press!
