vRS tow bar petition

Featured Replies

I reckon we should gather up a signed petition and send it to Skoda to convince them on having a type approved tow bar for Fabia RS. After all it shouldn't be too much of a problem since the normal furby tow bar fits with just a slight bumper cut.

We could actually send them pictures of someones "illegal installation" of a tow bar. After all, I don't think it's Skoda's best interest to have ppl illegally installing tow bars all over europe. I'm quite sure we all know plenty of ****ed of vRS owners or would-be-vRS-owners who would sign the petition.

Perhaps we could have it here at Briskoda site, should the admins want to chip in. I for one can quite easily gather 4-5 names. So if we all can get a few ppl to sign it, we should quite easily get at least 4-500 names on the list. That should count for something...

I will sign. :)

When the Felicia goes I will need the Fabia to tow, I'm OK now as it's a PD100 but come chaging car time it could rule out a vRS.

Cheers

It is a cost issue for the Type Approval, they may well take it up if they think there will be enough demand but I wouldn't expect an early resolution.

Where do I sign - havent got the need for it as of yet but I must admit being able to fit one would be very handy.

:)

I was hoping it was going to be a petition to ban tow bars.

Yep me too! You wanna fit a tow bar, go buy a volvo :)

I'm up for a petittition as I will eventually be fitting a tow bar to my vRS. i dont see what the problem is with getting the type approval as it the same chassis as avery other fabia and whid the powerful diesel engine it would probably make the best tow car out of the range. I'm not looking to tow a caravan with it but need to be able to tow my sailing dinghy.

Even though there is this issue with type approval all the Skoda dealers I asked about towbars prior to buying the car said they fitted no problem and they would be prepared to fit one.

Does anyone have any pise of a vRS fitted with a towbar and which ones fit the neatest.

I want the option to fit a towbar to be legal ;) As it's the vRS I would definitely want a removable 'neck' bit though :)

I'd sign it. I didn't even know that you weren't legally allowed to fit one until i tried to buy one...

ill sign it too if you show me where

If it helps the cause I'll sign it too, may well need one some day ;)

you could sign me up too, it's the only hurdle between me and purchasing a RIB, a boat is no good unless I can tow it!!

I'll sign. Bought and fitted one before knowing of this issue.. I was supplied by local dealer (Skoda) as well.. R

Same as Rikodars

Came as part of the deal on the car

Just a thought, is it actually illegal to have it fitted on the car or is it just illegal to use it for towing. Main use for mine is for a rack for the mountain bikes

I'll sign anything.

You can set-up an online petition at http://www.petitiononline.com.

I'm sure you could put a link to it from here if you set one up

Sorry to point out the obvious here but why buy a car thats not type approved for towing and then complain that you can't tow???

If i needed to tow i'd buy a car that can actually tow, surley its just common sense??

Neily, hello mate

Like me, i did'nt realise the VRS was'nt type approved until after i bought it

You would think with all that torque it would be ok  but its only the rear bumper that prevents Skoda from type approving the VRS!

Very annoying situation, although its looking up as my insurer says i can have one fitted, so i will

Just searching my e-mails. Latest reply from VOSA, I'm attempting to get SVA approval for a towbar but this opens the door. No Train weight required.

"Many thanks for your enquiry, I have been asked to respond to your e-mail.

Firstly, I must apologise for not replying any earlier, the department is

very busy at this time.

The Single Vehicle Approval (SVA) scheme is a pre-registration inspection

for cars and light goods vehicles that have not been approved to British or

European standards. The main purpose of the scheme is to ensure that these

vehicles have been designed and constructed to modern safety and

environmental standards before they can be used on public roads.

Part of the SVA inspection is to assess the "design weights" of a vehicle,

(usually for kit or amateur built vehicles) although in the case of normal

"production" vehicles, the standard may be considered to be met unless

evidence suggests otherwise (i.e. the vehicle has been modified). This

being the case, an assessment will be made against those design weights

declared by the applicant.

There is no requirement for a "passenger" vehicle to have displayed the

vehicles design weights as such, although these are usually readily

available from the manufacturer. Further more, if a tow bar is fitted to a

passenger car, there is no requirement to display the combination or "Train

weight" for the vehicle (GVW + trailer weight). However, if a manufacturer

does not issue a "train weight" for the vehicle, then there is usually a

reason for this (i.e. the vehicle is not designed as such to permit the

fitment of a tow bar or have the facility to fit a tow bar). This indeed

sounds like the case here as it only relates to the Fabia vRS.

A vehicle being assessed for Single Vehicle Approval would not be allocated

any train weight in this respect. This would require documentary evidence

to confirm that the weights declared were those that had been allocated by

the manufacturer. In this instance, SVA will not be able to help you. "

Ill sign.

Ive got one fitted which was supplied by the dealer at the time of buying the car so I too didnt know about this until reading the threads.

Ok im probablly missing something here.

cutting the bumper is normal on most modern towbar instalations so why does this stop skoda from approving te vrs to tow?

and is a 1.2 three cylinder approved to tow then?
