Traded the Yeti for Peugeot 208

Featured Replies

Well just for a week. Candy is tucked up in the garage at home allowing me to motor around Jersey in a 208.

Very interesting. The needle sweep on start up is certainly a surprise and delight. I'm not sure of the trim as it is not badged. It has alloys, Bluetooth , DAB, nice seats, good boot, compliant ride. It's really difficult to place on narrow roads as you can't see anything at the front. It's quiet ( diesel) and showing 54 to the gallon.

The interior is well thought out with USB, lots of storage that really are of use. Piano black trim, the smallest steering wheel I've seen since the 100+ one on my 1975 Mini.

I quite like it, it has surprised me. VAG could benefit from a look round and copying a few bits.....but not the clang of the doors....please!

My wife has had a 208 diesel since january (she uses it as her driving instructors car)

She could only have Corsa's and Fiesta's before, so when she heard that the 208 was on the approved list, she went for a test drive and decided to get one.

9 months down the line she cannot wait to get rid

Initially, it seemed a nice car, with the funky piano black trim and flat bottomed steering wheel, as well as the large multi function screen etc. but the quality is cheap and the build quality after a few thousand miles is very poor.

She's actually done about 12000 miles in it, and it squeeks like hell and the ride is not very good, my citigo blinds it.

Also the gearbox is poor and reverse is temperamental to say the least.

Even the fiesta she had before was much better.

Good thing is, you can hand it back after a week

Cheers

Damo

Not keen on the 208 I have to say. Suffers from Fabia2 syndrome (too tall and narrow)

The French just CANNOT manufacture a good quality car, I'm surprised people are still buying them. :(

Enjoy Jersey don't forget to wave!  :hi:

Pouclee, I have to stop waving....

Seen a few monsters. A gold One a GDL.....yours?

Had one of the early British built 306 TDI's; my first and only Pug, which ranks alongside two BMW's as one of the worst car I unfortunately bought. Difficult to select gears, turning circle of an ocean going tanker, transparent paint around the door openings and reluctant to start in the damp. Oh and the final straw after two months on the road from new, it would fill with water if it rained :S

I'm a bit irritated with locking ang unlocking. No plip key so I have to use the key. I suspect the hire company keeps the plipper for the first proper owner. The one that doesn't realise it competed in the bouley bay hill climb ;-)

You did it too?

Tried to "belt" up the Hill Climb?

40 limit; what 40 limit??

Graham..... Been to Jersey over 20 times. It would be rude not to experience BB hill climb. Does anyone know how to remove the rear seat and other unwanted weight of the 208. I need help to counteract the long throw gearshift.;-)

Have you tried diving at the dive center under The Watersedge  or had a snack at Mad Marys? I have been up and down the hill climb course many times whilst camping at Rozel

October 1976, whilst on our honeymoon, in a red 1000cc Mini hire car, with valve bounce in 1st and 2nd!!

And SWMBO not at all happy about it!! :giggle:

(still married though :whew: )

Diving is a bit ambitious for me. Stayed at the Waters Edge a few years.....rather faded these days....watched the dive school from the restaurant

I keep a LHD Pug 207cc in France: a 4-year-old 1.6 diesel, which I like very much. Yes, the ride is very harsh on ultra low profile tyres but the fuel economy is superb and it's a lovely machine for the Provencal sun! Had it serviced in the UK recently (when I brought it over to give it a rare long run) and the garage commented on what good mechanical condition it was in.

Thought I'd dredge this thread up as ironically I currently have a 208 as a courtesy car whilst the Rapid is in for it's first service.

I have to say it is very spacious and according to the trip computer very economical but the general ambience made me think "van".. yes the central section of the dash is soft touch and you get some chrome and glossy black plastic decoration but in general it feels very tinny and plasticky. It all looks alright and first glance until you get in and start touching bits. Bit disappointed tbh, I thought Peugeot had moved a bit upmarket with this car but apparently not.

I looked at a lot of cars before settling on the Yeti. I mean like Ford, Vauxhall, Bmw, Vw, Subaru, Nissan, Mitsubishi (you get the picture!)  Whilst a lot of these cars were technically very similar, with regards to the feel of materials and how well the interiors were screwed together, some were definitely better than others. I feel that I'm getting my money's worth on something that I will be happy to be in for some years to come.
