Hi,

I'm not a frequent contributer, but thus far any questions I've posted have been well answered so I thought that I would try again.

I am having trouble with vibration through the car and the steering wheel.  Initially I assumed that this was just a case of needing the wheels balanced.  I have had this done something like 4 times now by 3 different garages, including on the last occassion 4 new tyres and tracking on a couple of occassions yet I still get vibration.  I'm getting 2 different types of vibration, one which peaks around 70 but is noticable from 50 all the way up, typical I think of unbalanced front wheels.  I am also getting a low frequency hum (for lack of a better way to describe it) which I can feel / hear throughout the car which exists at most speeds getting worse as speed increases (and before anyone smart says anything, it's not the sound of the engine).

I've had a couple of thoughts about causes but wanted a second opinion.  When the tyres were replaced the rear tyres where heavily, but consistently worn on the inside edge, therefore, I had the rear tracking adjusted, so hopefully not that.  The front tyres were a lot newer but were also worn on the inside edge but inconsistently.  The garage swapped front wheels for rear when changing the 4 tyres.  I remember back in January / February hitting a particular pothole hard a number of times (it was very early in the morning and I wasn't always awake enough to remember it being there).  Could the wheel itself be out of round and therefore incurable by balancing?  Also, the low frequency hum, could this be barings?

Like I said, any thoughts that you have, I would love to hear them.

Thanks,

I dont have an answer for you but I do have similar issues....I was thinking it must be balancing too, not had it done yet but really hope it fixes the vibration! I also considered wheel bearing but dont really have the hum noise so have discounted that....am interested to see if any others have this and what the fixes are :)

I was told by someone I know who knows his stuff that vibration through the wheel/pedals is the front, vibration through the seat is the rear.
