Great video, simple and basic explanation.

 

A good way to see a fixed axle working (so the opposite of a differential) is to watch an articulated vehicle do a very tight turn or U-turn. Quite often, especially on older trailers without rear steer, the inside wheels on the trailer will start to skid across the surface.

This is the best video I've ever seen explaining it. Even I understand it :)
