Mk1 second generation rear lights!

Featured Replies

So I'm doing bits and bobs to my Fabia atm and in the process of upgrading a few cosmetics. I've been looking at rear lights and rather fancy something looking a bit more modern. I do like the old tail lights but I can't help thinking what the new second generation lights might look like? Anyone done this?

At first glance, it looks like an easy straight swap so no modifications needed?

Thoughts/experiences welcome :)

They are a straight swap, three 10mm nuts. You'll need the ones from a hatchback as the saloon and estate ones don't fit.

I got mine from a 2006 Fabia MkI from the scrapyard, much cheapness :)

A few people have changed their lights to the facelift lights, I know grr666 did on his black vRS.

As Lee has said, just a few little bolts, but you will need small hands as one is a PITA :D

Have you purchased your new lights??

yeah that one closest to the boot is a right PITA. I used a 1/4" drive socket with an extension :whew:

I made the bodyshop change mine when they re-did my rear bumper :D

I rather the old shape light to the facelift ones. A set of silver indicator bulbs takes the orange/fried egg look out of them.

I just tinted mine.

I'm liking the tint, but I'm going go for the full change as I have a small crack in one of them (only noticed this afternoon!) I haven't bought the new set yet but they are going individually on ebay for £25 each. Might hunt around a bit and see if I can find something cheaper. I'm tempted to take them apart and try and fabricate some DRL's. Looks awesome on the A1!

rear DRLs?

When I saw the A1 in the showroom it had front and rear DRL's, although it might have been the rear fogs? It looked bad ass. For the front, I'm looking at cutting a thin line on the fog light trim and then placing white EL Tape behind it. I'm a little wary of this as if not done properly it could look tatty. If I go ahead with it I'm going for a really subtle DRL as a row of LED's just doesn't look right. It also depends on the quality of the EL tape I manage to find but at least it's easy 12v wiring.

Are you sure the rear 'DRLs' weren't just LED rear lights??

I switched from Newer type to older type. You bought the original ones that were on the car.

Which were post facelift. I left the older ones on the car when I sold it.  They were lamin x'd

though.
