Yes really glad that's all it was. A bit annoying as I was running a little behind so didn't get to check before the session

It was a great day indeed. I officially like Castle Combe Track very much now, despite it being my very first time there.

As I was following you to and going just in front of you when we came off the track after the 2nd session I could hear that "new noise" very well. To me it sounded like a plastic bush from one of the ARBs having no lubrication and making those "ticking noises" whenever the bar twisted in it ever so slightly.

Perhaps put a few drops of oil as a simple check if that is what is causing the noises? If noise is gone then you will now that all is needed is some more grease :)

Those photos James took are splendid. Your car looks like there is no body roll at all in my eyes. It looks more like ARBs stiffened it up very well but now the chassis is twisting, especially in the second photo - perhaps time for those Ultraracing braces :)

It defiantly rolls less in the pics compared to last year ...

I was thinking of a standard top brace next to be fair, top mounts of front suspension :) ever seen any for sale?!

special vid for you Jab ;) the rear camera!

Ive not seen any top mounts. Looking myself. I know Sparkly sourced some from Ireland...

I have not seen any and I was considering making a front strut brace myself but due to personal reasons it will have to wait for a while.

YOu stopped the vid short, where is the bit when I whizz past you? ;):D - thanks for letting me go, you did not have to !

And here is one for you, aptly titled "The Hunt"

Let me know if it works as I'd never used YouTube for uploading vids before :)

well me , you, and the silver mark I were so close in performance, I thought I'd let you go, and see if you could get away :)  (thats the only vid I could get from my rear camera :( ) set it to motion detection now, and overwrite, see if it works better!

I'll have a look for a strut brace.

vid works well :) my car looks better from behind too, less roll!

hope you dont mind me posting that vid on my thread in the fabia II section Jab :)

No probs, post away:)

I wasnt criticising the small amount of lean you have Dave, I was saying you must have been flying to induce what there was in thise photos and from experience of track time with you I dont doubt you were fast.

If you want a good option for uprated top mounts, something I really thought was a great investment for not much and well worth doing when you fit the shocks. Give David at SERE motors in Belfast a call and ask for the Leon Cupra R top mounts that will go on a Mark 2 Fabia. He was really helpful and great at cross referencing parts bin compatibility for OEM upgrades. The LCR top mounts are a harder shore but not as savage as superpro and others, and not expensive.

I think what you got now is chassis flex and no body roll. Strut bracing is a solution but I think the best is the stiffening of the floor to resist the diagonal chassis twisting. At least this is what I will be doing later this year, I hope.

cool, thats an interesting idea, it would be nice to be able to crossover parts, as they all exist for the fabia, but are often NOT listed, did you have a strut brace Sparkly?

I'll be interested to see what you think if you try them out, I have looked, I'm just a bit wary of adding a lot of weight!

I didn't have a strut brace, I always thought they were mostly decorative, I had the shocks and springs, RARB, uprated top mounts, LCR Brembo brakes.

I was just the matter of time for Dave and Jabo to catch up with me...

The lack of Power in my Car is the only down side but she handles like a dream and I felt like the car was glued to the track...:)

Well...I would lie if I said that didn't cross my mind... :notme:

Especially as I know how much the turbos cost in my homeland...;)

Did using the wheel spacers help at all?

  • Author

really not sure... seems to have a good "footprint" looking at the pictures!

It does like better in the photos. When I changed wheels, the outside edge moved out over 10mm and give much less torque steer. I was just wondering if you noticed anything similar?

"The longer the wheelbase and wider the track in relation to the height of the center of gravity, the more resistance the car has to weight transfer. They behave as counteracting lateral levers to the vertical lever of the center of gravity point."

http://www.turnfast.com/tech_handling/handling_weightxfr

Absolutely brilliant reference info - read it all and understand it and all becomes clear. I love it!

So spacers will contribute to smaller dynamic weight transfer and more "BTTC-like" behaviour i.e. flat as a plate of steel through turns with all wheels contributing to grip levels.

I personally had zero torque steer but that was due to pathetic levels of OEM power  and epic levels of grip from RS-Rs...

it almost seems as if there is more camber from the rear wheels, maybe an exaggeration of the original camber due to the spacers.....

Quick question, what are the yellow stuff pads like from cold? I remember using Pagid fast road pad/disks and they were lethal before heated up.

Very good, they are road legal, so unlike track only pads they must bite from cold as well as OE pads, and they do :)

I did how fast today and although I got them smoking , they stood up well with no fade :)

Mmmracer: I did the how fast brisky session today , and I think the 20mm spacers are too much and the angle is causing more wear on the inside edge of the rear tyres... The car was much more oversteery !!! I will upload a vid in a day it so , where I get very sideways on a too fast exit! Lol .... I used to be able to get the tail out with trail braking, it's now doing lift off oversteer! Lol ... It was fun, but it wasn't as fast ... May go down to 15mm or 10mm on the rear .... The 15 mm on the front are fine ...

this pic shows how the rear tyre is contacting! lol....
