"Phantom" fabia II vRS estate

Featured Replies

sure, I will be sending them back to skoda with a letter explaining my frustration that skoda keep replacing plugs that are not fit for purpose with the same plugs, then of course (suprise suprise) the same problems happening.

I was hoping to get them on before ultimate dubs this weekend, but I doubt I will have the time or oppertunity! :(

Have they failed again? I'm having mine swapped at its 3rd service next month, even though they've only done ~20,000 miles and not had any misfires or anything. I wanted to pre-empt any problems later on...

I wouldn't say "failed" they have been replaced under warrenty before, and now have approx 15k on them, its had 2 cold start misfires in th elast 2 weeks... thats how it starts...

havent got it back yet :(

I wish the weather would make its mind up so I know if Saturday's update is just going to be a "good wash" or actual a full paint machine polishing. :D

weather looks good Jase, dry, high pressure, cloudy 7C...  I'll bring my flaps! (oooeeerrrr)

got the car back.... much smoother on cold startup :) these were the plugs at about 14k.... don't look too bad, a bit caked up, and one electrode seems to be dissapearing on the edge.....

my tame mech said there are "karting" plugs that have no electrode (forgot what he called 'em) and spark from the edge to the centre.... gonna look into it...

Are they in order Dave?

  • Author

nope, random, but I bet cylinder 4 is the worst plug! lol...

Are those the factory plugs?

  • Author

yes. I have had them "warrenty" replaced twice now. Given up and put NGK7's in.

Plugs are healthy but show that the engine is burning oil, same with mine. I might pull plugs before the first track outing of the season but I have no misfires and all is working perfect so perhaps no need really - just curiosity :)

  • Author

yes, the contamination, is the "soot" you get from oil burning in the engine..... really isn't much though, checked it this week, 2,000 miles since the last top up, and its right at the top of the hatch....

I had had 3 cold misfires, wasn't all the time, but the first cold misfire is when I will replace the plugs, just so I KNOW they are not going to fail ;)

Better safe than sorry!

Nothing wrong with fresh plugs every 10k!

I know some plugs say "better spark gives more power" , but I have been giving the car a spanking today, and I swear to God it feels faster! like 10bhp faster! it may be a placebo of course, but just seems to pull stronger, especially between 6-7k, not drop off , just stronger....

Well, Bedford HowFast? should make it clear ;)

At full load high revs is where one would notice even small differences.

What I noticed recently on mine was a puff of "particulates" from the exhaust. I had sun behind me and hammered it in 2nd or was it 3rd off some round about or something and noticed a spherical puff of "smoke" in rear view mirror highlighted nicely by the low sunlight. I had seen some "hazing" driving after dark in similar situations before but never in daylight. My oil consumption is getting steadily worse I noticed. However, there is no drop off in performance of any kind, which I'd hazard a guess is due to oil scrubbing rings getting worn out more and more.

I think the FARB has helped too..... its the first time its been spanked with my summer wheels and tyres since I had the bar fitted :)

you still did a faster time than me at how fast though! lol..... As long as I improve over last time I will be happy ;)

well... off to Petes today for ultimate dubs tomorow... car will be properly cleaned by Jason today. I will put up some photo's (Just for Chris RS) lol..

I have taken a fair break with wedding and starting the new job but glad things are still progressing nicely Dave. I'll look forward to seeing how the FARB works out for you at Combe.

I saw your car this morning Dave, next to an Oct, Yeti and the Mongrel, didn't see you lot though or the others for that matter.

right, we will get some pics up for the cleaning, and the show :)

A simple decontamination wash made a huge difference for starters!

IMG_2536.jpg

unfortunatley it shows up all the damage, stone chips by the million, this one dented the bonnet on a CREASE! :o must have been a bloody hard hit :(

I asked for blue go faster stripes... don't think he got it..... (anyway, protecting the rubber!)

Dave. she looks smashing!

As for the stone chips I have exactly the same problem, they bloody multiply like fekking rabbits!

I envy you your leather interior though - had a look in good light today and my cloth upholstery looks like a sofa in a local pi$$er, disgusting! I will have a week off week Monday so I will do all those jobs as well as installation of RARB. After what you showed me at Blyton I just simply have to have it. :).

I also bought full set of Pagid brakes (discs and pads) as my current ones stopped working even when I do a mildly brisky road driving. There is something wrong there - I need to take it apart and check what's what as what I have now is deffo not normal.

While I am at it I will drop oil, change brake fluid, change the air filter and will have her ready for the track season :)

  • Author

sounds good Jab... you will LOVE the RARB, best bang for buck mod on these, I will have to fear your pace though if you beat  me at how fast without one! :o

I will be interested to see the difference with the FARB... feels great on the road, but can't push it past its limits there ;)

my discs are pagid..... currently have cheap £18 pads on, (and they are worse than the broken metal base of the yellowstuff :( ) BUT will have the new yellowstuff on for castle combe,

get some decent fluid in, i went for ATE blue ... been great :) fixed the pedal problem I had at the national meet :)

and the interior, honestly I couldn't go back to the standard cloth, I love these seats! look for a broken ibiza!

see you soon :)
