I'm a fan of fishing line, as it's strong enough to allow you to saw through the adhesive. Plus less potential damage than from a card, plus you don't need to find one to sacrifice!

fishing line is the accepted way ... i dont have any though ;) my "card" from the spi vision was quite thin....

So big question, what's next Dave?

Polybush your running gear?

Polybush your running gear?

maybe.... I think the B8's are next over the winter..... I may have to do polybushing at the same time (and top mounts, please link me to the seat top mount I need Mark!)  because the following winter I am out of warrenty, so.... send the turbo to be hybridised... a big intercooler, exhaust and sport cat , and a custom map :)

Looking good Dave, getting my roof done black soon, got the vinyl waiting. Also got my black rally flaps waiting to go on..... Wondering if i should Flyeye the rear lights, are you happy with how it looks close up?

thanks, I may yet loose the vRS badge ;)  I also have proper rally flaps waiting to go on, just not quite sure how I'm gonna fit them! lol...... black roof will look good on blue :)

I'm not happy with how the lights look close up, not because of the material, but because I didn't do a good job!

I would make sure you take the lights out, and have someone to help with the hairdryer..... just take TIME ... I was too rushed and left the lights in place, so I came out a bit scrappy!

Still think it looks alright, will have to get some soon to finish it off. I've had the flaps for about 6 months, just haven't got a chance to get the wheels off to fit them, I've had some custom brackets fabricated so that they fit, only an issue for the rear, fronts should go on easy enough with spacers.

  • Author

thats the problem , the fitting... the rally flaps are quite heavy, and the brackets that came with them are no good.... may have to hand it over to my tame mechanic ;)

went to the santa pod meet, was fantastic! did poor in comparison to others, but with a 15 dead I was faster than the VXR's the JCW mini, and the type r's, so happy enough! lol...

and the vid ....

vid from inside the car of a nice remapped car passing me :)

What happened Dave?

Plenty of chassis mods, sticky rubber and 190bhp?

Do you think having the extra stiff chassis made it harder to lay the power down?

I just bought an Anti Lift Kit, maybe time to consider one on Phantom? Caster increase might help.

Chassis mods are good for track, but offer little on drag strips. I guess a hot day, waiting for runs and standard intercooler could result in heat soak?

no, my 30 mt times were better than most that beat me so ARB's and track rubber worked a treat.....

was on 97 BP fuel (comes out worse in most tests) and they were on 99,,,,, I did have hammers compressors, spare wheels, coats and chairs in the boot.....

tyres add 5mpg..... maybe drag a little more..... 215's higher profile....

to be fair, I beat the VXR's ST's, JCW's, and Type R's.... so I was fast .....

its just that others were faster!!!!!!

I consistantly beat a CAVE car.... so if they are 180 bhp...maybe I am 190...... Toms car beat me the same as a 210bhp mapped car did... so his standard CTHE could be over 200bhp! there have been RR'ds saying standard CTHE engines are over 200bhp! lol....

I'm happy with my results :) even If I seemed slow, I don't think my car has a problem, but mods and the odd engine are better! lol...

I suppose on the drag strip you only need grippy tyres on the front only for traction off the line. Important thing is you had fun.

I remember my first time at the Pod, best was a 15.6.

Hopefully beat it next time

got a letter from by insurance brokers :( the company that insures me is withdrawing their operation of this type of policy on renewal :( (renewal due Aug)

amazingly they have another insurer, and its £480 so about £50 cheaper!

sweet :)

well after printing out all the stuff, I couldn't find mention of my RARB, so I called them.... they have got that down on the proposal form, not interested in the dealer fit springs, or "replacement" parts like pads fluid ect ....

and they said "do you take under 17's off road for driving? " nope I said, I knew this was covered.... they said there was a company that they use that would be cheaper if this was omitted...

£435 ! result! :) considering I am paying £530 for this year , I am very happy with that :)

Read your thread from end to end, very inspirational :)

Why thank you sir!  more mods are in line every year, bit by bit, so it will come along ;)

latest is I'm off to the ring next month, and I had a vibration at about 100mph (at rockingham track, not on the road before the psycho's start crying)

my rear tyres were low, and had been track abused , so put two new ones on today, tyre tech saud the old tyres were mishaped, so almost certainly causing the vibration, rebablance all wheels just to be sure, I should be good for the green hell now!

just for interest, these are the plans.

this winter, bilstien shocks, possible front polybushing, or alternatively a hand made custom exhaust.....

as next year the warrenty is up! so, then we are going, exhaust, sports cat, intercooler, intake, hybridise the turbo, then RR for results..

then map it :) if the CTHE hasn't been cracked by then, I may go mental and install a bespoke ECU.

all this may take a couple of years though, no money and all that! lol...

Shark reading this nd seeing your car in the flesh is brilliant. So much so that I think I'm going to start my own build thread now with the little things I've done so far.
