  • Right.   I gave myself a good talking to and popped out for a little bonding with the new car.   Holy moley it's even more bonkers than I remember the last ones being. Yes, they have worked a lot

Thanks.

I've been to Brands Hatch this evening.

Not the best circuit for a big heavy car that likes a bit of straight to cool everything down, but still a bit of fun.

It absolutely Peed down too, so it got quite exciting, had the back out a lot.

Uploading vid now.. :)

Brands Hatch in the wet.

Giving it the beans and getting a little sideways action. :)

The blue one didn't stuff off on his little grass excursion did he? Nice way to come up to the end of your first lap. :D

Is it me or is that footage pixelated? Is it the software you use to shrink the file size or the camera?

Nope, just a bit of gardening and then back on track. :)

I find it's a bit pixellated on some computers, but not others.

Did you try viewing in 720 Hd instead of 1080?

I thought the pixelation was from the rainwater? :D

Glad it's not only me. Tried in 3 browsers at 1080p and my screen is HD with a HDMI feed so should be good. Tried it on my Nexus 7 and that's the same.

May have been Youtube compression messing with the footage?

Looked amazing! I bet the Blue GTR driver was touching cloth when they went off

Another little vid I made from when Charlie (Dark Hero) and I went to Silverstone earlier in the month.

About 6 minutes.

Love that video Richard :) was such a brilliant day

What happened the blue one? Didn't look like he done anything wrong

Slightly lower tyre pressure in rear nearside tyre, stock Dunlops (bad for wet conditions) and possibly a smidge too late with a bit of corrective steering. Apparently they are easy to drive... But they can bite. :)

I also thought they would be 'easy to drive' for what they are. But more times I see people spinning off in a more or less straight line lol scares me :D

So after doing four track days in about five weeks the GT-R has been in for it's second scheduled service.

Now two years old with 11k miles on the clock, so I've done 7,300 miles in the year I've had it.

On top of the service, earlier this week it had the Litchfield suspension kit fitted.

Road ride is now noticably improved.

All back in place.

New anti-roll bar matched to the suspension kit.

This one has a series of holes so you can tailor the understeer/oversteer balance to your preference.

Old and new.

Finally, although not needed until three years old the amount of "enthusiastic" use the car has had shown up an occasional (once every 100 miles or so) delay in gearchanging.

This was quite noticable due to the very smooth shifting box the GT-R has.

Having spoken to Sly at Kaizer Motors (my GT-R specialist) it's usually a build up of deposits on the magnets in the pistons of the gearbox.

So it had a fluid change (a year early) and sure enough, when the solenoid pack was dropped the deposit on the magnet was found.

The gearbox, with it's bits dropped.

The solenoid pack, clearly showing the deposits on the magnet that was causing the occasional delay.

Interesting stuff Richard, Brands look extremely wet, do you keep the same tyres on the Nissan all the time?

One thing that does spring to mind though is this;

All these track days, the Citigo build and some of the other things you get up to, I am guessing it is only a matter of time before we see BOSS FOX motorsport?

Out of interest have you got a competition licence?

No I haven't James.

In all honesty it is something I thought about doing, I even ordered the pack and have it at home, but a few of the track days I've been to are for road cars only and they won't let anyone with a competition license take part.

This put me off of the idea a bit, I'm not likely to get that serious about it but it could hinder some of the track days I do.

Yes, I run the same tyres all the time.

Michelin Pilot Super Sport.

They are more of a road tyre and are not quite as good on a dry track as the stock GT-R tyres.

The comfort is far better and they are a huge amount better in the wet.

It's such a big heavy car with big wheels I can't be bothered swapping rims and tyres all the time.

No motorsport plans here... once the Citigo is done and car expenditure calms down I need to divert resources to other (more sensible) things. :D

BossFox Motorsport.............. James, don't get him started

I was just fishing on the future plans!! I wonder when a bit of fun albeit expensive fun turns into serious competition? At what point do you decide I want enter a series?

I have done a couple of track days and we have how fast on Saturday, in the future, obviously when the mortgage is finished and the children older I quite fancy having ago, getting the licence and seeing what I can do, however this comes with a bitter twist. When you are younger you tend be more ambitious with your driving and worry less about the "what ifs" so by the time I actually get round to having a go I might have lost my bottle and just be the guy who drives around at the back, you know the one I mean, all the gear and no idea!

Anyhow's time will tell and I have a few years yet so I will keep doing the meets and the odd track day here and there and see what happens in the years to come.

Like Richard says, it is a fine balance between family, work and playing in cars

I'd like to throw my hat into the ring to be a driver for BossFox Motorsport please.:giggle:

Ooooh new suspension looks cool :) will have to go out with you again to see the difference :)

The GT-R has gone into Nissan for warranty work.

The bellhousing issue they tend to suffer with, with excess play on the shaft that causes a loud rattling noise at tickover due to a soft bearing that wears.

Should be interesting to see what Nissan Warranty say, apparently I'm allowed to drive it but not abuse it.

I told them I just drive it the way it was designed to be driven... :D

Only done four track days in the last 2,000 miles and the car logs all kinds of data. :peek:

lol, how else do they expect the car to be driven?

good luck with it :)
