Richard's GT-R thread, old and new!

Featured Replies

The GT-R has gone into Nissan for warranty work.

The bellhousing issue they tend to suffer with, with excess play on the shaft that causes a loud rattling noise at tickover due to a soft bearing that wears.

Should be interesting to see what Nissan Warranty say, apparently I'm allowed to drive it but not abuse it.

I told them I just drive it the way it was designed to be driven... :D

Only done four track days in the last 2,000 miles and the car logs all kinds of data. :peek:

Any idea what the cost of the warranty work would be?

  • Right.   I gave myself a good talking to and popped out for a little bonding with the new car.   Holy moley it's even more bonkers than I remember the last ones being. Yes, they have worked a lot

Data log will make interesting reading lol I hope there isn't small print in your warranty documentation stating "Do Not Thrash it!"

It won't say that but it may say do not tune this to stage 2+!

It's "only" a stage 1 so should be safe :)

Is it covered by TSB NTB09-147?

My understanding is, cars as late as 2011 can be affected.

My bad, thought it was stage 2. Im sure Rich said that at Combe.

Think that was the previous gtr Nick

Previous was 4, this is 2. I'm more sensible now... ;)

Yes.

Just need to see what they say about the tune/use of the car.

Worse ways it's a bill for £1,000 to get an aftermarket fix that's supposedly better than the Nissan part. We'll see.

These seem to be going though routinely now - even on highly tuned cars. Provided the dealer claimed using the primary part/opcode from the TSB, it should be automatic.

Whilst replacing the flywheel bellhousing with a new part isn't the most elegant solution, it does seem to work. I know someone who had it done in the early days of the TSB and it's still good.

Thanks for the info.

I've come across people that have had it done and given the cars some serious stick and it's fine.

Yet others who have had the same issues and after six months it's the same.

Hopefully the former had the updated part and this well known issue will stop to effect GT-Rs from 2012 cars onwards.

How is yours going, doing any events with it?

You might be one of the few guys who will understand this, but going from grey to pearl white is best thing about this new one :)

It's such a joy to drive every day when you don't have to worry about being seen.

Events - No. Maybe I'm getting old but I just don't enjoy tracking them anymore.

I wasn't a fan of the grey, people just didn't seem to see me.

Pulled out on me and all sorts.

Road colour I guess, although did did look nice when clean.

Next time I would go white, hides the stone chips better.

Events - didn't mean only tracking, GTROC days out etc... ?

I stand correctedl lol

It's only an exhaust and map, so you could say it's almost stock.

GT-R tuners have a huge range of mods... On other makes they'd probably call this a stage 1.

Previous stage 4 only had 20bhp more than this, and a bit more torque! :D

Can't forget the new suspension and the super brakes!

Nissan have approved the repair. :)

Pleased, considering the car logs the last 48 hours and that probably included four or five track days...

Due to mods if it goes again it's my problem though. :D

Excellent that is good :)

Given that the cat is out of the bag and the TSB is widely available on the internet, I don't really know how they could refuse.

I sometimes wonder if the dealer gives me the runaround, just to make them look good.

Like they are helping you out or something.

Similar to the time my battery on the MY10 died at two years old.

Dealer claimed not covered under warranty (oh, really!) but they replaced it anyway under "goodwill".  Hmmm....

They did the same with your tyres! Cheeky beggars

They tried to overcharge me 50% on those to earn a cool extra £1000 profit the cheeky beggers.

I only buy Nissans that do things Skodas can't do (mad speed or electric), I'd never buy a mainstream one and it explains why I am a fan of my local Skoda garage who are not a bunch of oppertunists.

In all honesty the cars are good, but the dealer experience isn't.
