Richard's GT-R thread, old and new!

Featured Replies

Just my honest opinion, not trying to dis you or the car, as I have always liked them since they first came over here, purely because for such a "lowly" brand they p155 all over the establishment, & showed the world what could be done when more thought was applied! I remember when Mines did their first 1000bhp car.............mental, but gold coloured, or was that the Top Secret one?

Not sure who did the first 1_000bhp RB26DETT, but there is a specific colour "Top Secret Gold" that most of their projects are finished in, and isn't available from anyone else.

  • Right.   I gave myself a good talking to and popped out for a little bonding with the new car.   Holy moley it's even more bonkers than I remember the last ones being. Yes, they have worked a lot

Mmmmm more boooooost!

^^^ Dream drive LOL. :D

What, no R33 for the full set? lol

I love the R32, i know the R34 is superior in most ways, but looks wise, that R32 is damn near my dream spec.

Oddly I've never wanted an R33.

Finally got round to ordering the Z-tune front bumper, Nismo sills, spats and GT rims for the M-spec R34.

Gave the bonnet a miss, mainly because it's £3,000 and I don't need it.  It won't add much to the value of the car.

Also put a deposit on this:

R34 Bayside Blue (the popular colour) GT-R with a few Nismo bits.

Z-tune front bumper, sills and spats, clock, exhaust and "sports resetting" Nismo map.

So should be 400bhp exactly like the M-spec as that has the same map and exhaust.

The sharp eyed people will notice some funky taller carbon rear wing lifters too.

Here starts another 8-10 week wait as it's shipped and registered...

Oh my I love that colour I only wish I had your bank balance.

Just came across a V-spec II R32 GT-R on sale at JM Imports.
Recently gone up for sale.
Fair price too.

R32 GT-R.
Best colour ever (IMO)
V-spec II

It's a sign!

V-spec II is quite rare on the R32 as they only came out about a year before the R33 replaced the R32.

I guess they waited for the victories in racing before the V-spec cars... R33 and R34 had them much earlier in production.

Lol you've gone from mass FGF owner to mass GTR owner, shame your taste has got worse  :D

So the plan today was to get the R32 on a hub dyno and find out exactly what it is making before putting the Full-Race twin EFR kit on...

But I just ended up more confused.

When it was mapped the Rolling Road results (with wiggly lines as it shuffled the drive around in the 4x4 system) showed a peak of around 635nhp and 480lb/ft.  At the flywheel.
Which seemed a little pessimistic on an RB28 with all the bits and bobs.

So the hub results only showed up to 5,800rpm as the torque was causing an issue with it.
They are going to get that checked, but calibrated it and are sure it's right in terms of the results until the safety tripped each time.

At the hubs it produced more than the Rolling Road session, despite these being hub figures, and they didn't show the full potential as couldn't get it over 6,000rpm. (redline is 8,000rpm)

590bhp @ 5,900rpm
511lb/ft @5,900rpm

Not sure where we go from here.  Because that suggests it's possibly peaking at 700bhp and 550lb/ft...
Good news is that it still shows the brilliant spool it has.

Will try to get it on Abbey's hub dyno, but if there is a wait might just have to bolt the other kit on.

LOL Richard crazy car you got their! Grats on the new one too BTW looks very tasty!

It's just playing with us, doesn't want to show what it's really making.

All I know is that in a straight line it's MUCH quicker than the Yeti is despite the RR graph from the mapper showing it has the same torque, 100bhp more and an extra 120-150kg to carry.

Which doesn't really all add up!

Perhaps you bought a shy car?! ;) Well at least in that respect.

I'd expect more at the hubs than the tyres due to not having tyre losses.

Also, that looks to me like the dyno is maxing out.

My bum dyno is very accurate, give the car to me for day.....or month and I'll tell you what's it running lol

Wow Richard, great cars and great history, I read this thread from star to the end and it is impressive to see a lover of cars with such dedication, thanks for sharing this with the world

Thanks for reading.

The dyno figure from the RR is a calculated flywheel figure.

Which is why it doesn't really add up.

They are going to run it again in rear drive only and see what happens.

Dynos don't seem to like the variable torque split and ability to be rear drive only sometimes, just sending power forwards when required.

Ah, that wasn't clear, but I agree about:-

  1. Dynos not liking variable split 4WD.
  2. Calculated flywheel figures not always adding up. Part of this is because transmission drag in the real world is a variable, and figures used for this can be used to, ah, give owners an ego massage and/or make a tuner look better than they are. Now I don't think you want an ego massage, but I'd be reluctant to compare figures between 2 dynos (check other posts I've made on here about dynos).

So with this Gtr getting the efr turbos which one will inherit these turbos?

R32 went on a Dyno dynamics RR today in rear drive only.

Smooth graph, made 675bhp and 500lb/ft calc at flywheel.

So with this Gtr getting the efr turbos which one will inherit these turbos?

I have a plan...

No wonder I thought it was quick :)

Oddly I've never wanted an R33.
