Warning on Spark Plugs 1.4 TSI CAVE VRS, (& CTHE)'check the spark plugs!'

Featured Replies

I will remove them all and post photos of the state of the plugs. Yeah I want an inspection camera put down the plug whole and I want the part found. As well as seeing the cylinder.

Still waiting for SUK to get back to me hopefully today but I need things sorted before Thursday.

Yes the invoice shows 4 plugs put in 20k ago. I also paid for the plugs to be checked at the 10 thousand mile service by its sister skoda garage and they said they are all good.

I have asked to get everything in writing. Some techs on briskoda facebook said just put a new plug in a drive. But I still want skoda to sort it all out.

  • I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

  • Here's mine today when I removed them for compression test, 11,000 km on them currently. I think they can comfortably go to 20K (km) ?

I did ask any they said any part fitted by skoda is covered under a 24 month parts and labour warranty. And unlimited millage

That link wasn't found? And as long as the warranty also covers sorting damaged that had been caused

If they put in the Wrong Plugs, or the wrong gap & damage was caused.

If the tip has burnt out, then possibly no damage is caused.

Maybe a Coil is gone or going, or Valves Burnt Out.

So check the Spark Plug, see if tip off or Melting, then you will know.

Until then it is guessing.

??

What Spark Plug Number is on the Invoice for when they changed them,

& how much was the Parts (Spark Plugs) and the Labour?

Okay I'll whip them all out and post a photo the RAC said he's suprised it didn't fail at the weld

Does he/she know the odd behaviour of the Twincharger Engines, ?

if having dealt with a few they might do. Funnily Skoda, VW, Audi & Seat techs seem not to.

*Then they would know which plug to take out first and check,

because plenty have read the Codes, seen a misfire and changed 1 ignition coil, whithout ever removing the Sparek Plug and looking.*

My bad pictures show what happens to 1 spark plug.

I am sure i have asked you before over the past couple of years.

?

Has your car had a Software Update of the ECU to help reducing the Engine Management Issues?

Edited by goneoffSKi

Yeah they do know about all the issues with them. they posted a link to one of your spark plug threds. Yeah all up today I believe.

Did you need a new engine in yours?

Personally i have never had or run a faulty vRS Fabia, i got them and changed the Spark Plugs for better ones.

But that was what happened to your plug? Looks the same as mine.

Just wondering if you had any issue with it after your plug failed like that? Or did it keep running okay?

The plug melts.

That is not from my car, i service other peoples.  No the car does not run OK, it can go in Limp Mode,

& if you keep going a Tip can break off, or you can burn out the Valves.  But if you get the Plug changed it can be fine, no damage done.

Other Members Plugs have had a tip come off & wrecked the engine.

Why this thread started really.

Has your car had a Software Update of the ECU, did you get this done last year

& what spark plugs did they put in.?

It was running wrong back last year.

Having the DSG Service Campaign doing and the Oil Changed & Software Update for the DSG

does not mean your car is running the latest Software for the CAVE Engine.

Ask the Technician or Work Shop Manager, and get them to be sure.

I'll find the code and post that also. Yeah that was done last year the update.

Skoda said it was caused by a blowing exhaust and when fixed the idle sorted itself it still get be rough but smooth as anything after I've also found tesco 99 Ron didn't help I've changed to shell vpower and its a lot smoother

Just starting to take the plugs out now

I was told when the oil consumption was checked they needed to update the car this was about 19 months ago I think

This is the service sheet from a its full service a year ago

Is my photos showing?

EDIT.  No Pictures.

Did you get a Breather Pipe / Valve Mod when a Oil Consumption test was done.

Then you should have had a ECU Update.

That does not mean you did, so get them to do it this time if you are having them doing the work.

Is there no place else you can go?

Someplace a bit more reassuring on the work being done.

I'll try again, removing the plugs now. And if it's covered under warranty so isn't it best I stay with skoda?

I thought you had no Warranty other than a Guarantee of Work Carried out at a Skoda Franchised Dealer.

If Skoda UK is covering Spark Plugs and the Work done by a Dealer then fabulous.

Amazing actually.

VW, SEAT & Audi Dealerships can do your Servicing,

& a Warranty would be still Valid.

If a Skoda Dealership workshop has messed up, then stick with Skoda until resolved.

?

Is one Plug gone, the Tip or any crazing on the Ceramic.?

Are they the Correct Spark Plugs that are in?

Yes all parts and labour is covered by 24 months warranty and unlimited millage. It's part of this good garage scheme. I believe so I've just whipped them out photos now. They are branded VW plugs

These are the plugs from left to right (oil cap to battery)

I think for these engines yours are looking healthy

Th3Grinch,

I think you have what spark plugs taken out of a 1.4 TSI / TFSI Twincharger 132-136 kw Minimum often look like.

That is the issue that is the reason VW have stopped using that engine in VW's, Audi, Skoda but still in the Seat.

?

So what Age & Mileage of car have you got now,?

i noticed you had changed cars.

Edited by goneoffSKi

What plugs are they?

  • Author

Chappers777,

So just as expected when the one plug goes.

Looks like maybe went too far burning out and a part has broken off.

Type that spark plug Part Number into Google.

That is the 'Long Life' plug that VWG Dealers use.

...............

I see they charged you for 3.8 litres of oil.

3.8 @ £12..  But only £27.55 ????

Usually it is 3.6 Litres, the Official Oil Capacity for a 1.4 TSI CAVE Engine.

and then some put in more oil when topping up..

Not very often i have seen any Dealer putting more than 3.6 litres on a Invoice.

Other than when wrongly filling with 3.9 litres.
