What Was Your Worst Car?

Featured Replies

What's the worst car you've ever owned or had the misfortune to experience?

Well,I heard my ex was selling his H reg Escort Eclipse - which reminded me of the fun times spent waiting outside garages in my Furby whilst he was inside getting yet ANOTHER bit fixed.

Oh the joys of 'Iron Oxide' panel couture, the 'Leaky Fuel Tank' episode, and the amazing 'I just spent

An E reg Renault 11 automatic (which I inherited). Gutless, and the coolant leaked into the auto box, requiring a rebuild to get reverse to work.

Had lots of bad cars, bad for various reasons, but I think the worst has to be of recent times which was a brand new Citroen Xsara Coupe VTR. Far too many reasons why, but in summary, new engine at 15k, drivers interior door panel refitted by dealer 14 times, basically I spent more time in the two years I had it in courtesy cars.

Worst one appearance wise was a 1979 Fiat 127 1050cl which I owned in 1991. Fantastic car, saw off XR2's round town, but always looked like it was seconds from a crusher with the door bottoms hanging off etc.

Worst drive of my life was an Austin Maestro, brand new as a hire car to go to London. OMG!!! what an utter pile of sh#t

And how could I possibly have overlooked my dad's Lada Riva Estate. Picked it up brand new, was back to the garage with it next day - it had a fuel leak!

The Lada Samara after that wasn't bad, but you can understand why a few years ago I was rather nervous as he proclaimed 'Just bought a Favorit LXiE'. Best move he ever made... :)

a fiat brava 1.6 on a s reg, what a heap of rubbish, it used to feel like it was floating just above the road surface, the steering was frightening and suprisingly enough it wasnt that slow, so what you had was kind of a quick car that handled like a hovercraft.

Not had a single bad car yet.

My Fiat Panda was basic motoring , but it didn't really have any major problems and the monor ones were fair enough for a car of that type.

The AX and Ka both did what I expected of them , and then I bought an octy

Hmm - well the Pug 205 I had that had a problem cutting out (flat spot) just at the revs where you drive away from roundabouts was a bit of a pain.

The rover 100 had it's braking system replaced twice, until we found the TWO new master cyclinders from rover were both pieces of junk. A scrapyard provided a working one and it's been good as gold since.

Based on what I paid, how long it took me abusing it, and so on, I guess I've been pretty lucky :D

Had a MG Metro Turbo back in 1987, loads of problems and found out it was a write off.

Cheers

Lee

My worst was an MG Metro Turbo....went through engines like they were going out of fashion!!!!:(

Had two Fords...not keen on thembut they served me good and cheaply..

Biggest bag of crap I owned and longed for was a BMW 318. I wanted one for years and hated it when I got one....Guzzly and had loads of silly problems....got rid of it after a MONTH!!!...never will I have a Beemer again....Now on my fourth Skoda!!!..sod badge snobbery

Worst cars I have had the misfortune to drive are

2.0 Litre Turbo Diesel Mondeo estate. Absolutley awfull. Had to give it 2500 revs just to get it moving and then had to flag people down to give it a push just to get some acceleration out of it. Absolutley gutless

Rover 45's - We used to get many of these as hire cars. Reversing and it came out of gear due to the vibrations of the gear stick. Awful. No wonder they went under. We got to the point of specifying "NOT ROVER 45" on the forms when ordering a hire car.

Not owned any bad ones really.

Worse was a 1996 Astra (P Reg), closely followed by a 1988 Nova (F Reg ??) both just pants; performance, build quality, comfort, suspensions etc, etc.......... Guess which make of car I have/will never consider again ??

Best (bar the Skoda) would have to be a 1978 MG BGT and Jag X-Type 2.0D

Citroen BX TZD turbo-diesel estate. All you'd expect of a French car, and more. A horrible heap of excrement.

A works Fiesta van from AGES ago, thankfully scrapped now. Was only 4 speed. Gearbox had no "gate" so I kept putting in reverse (next to first) when trying to pull away from lights...

Opened the bonnet to check the oil and all I saw was tarmac through the engine bay, and a tiny little engine block....

Was a dog to drive too - Had HGVs overtaking me on uphill sections.

worst personal car:

1996 Yellow Fiat Cinquecento Sporting bought brand new. After 2 years the engine management system packed up, ruining the catalytic converter, the exhaust, the spark plugs, the ignition, and something else which ended up costing

H reg Skoda Favorit, It was one of the first on the road in the UK as I ordered it before it was launched. A total bag of **** is was, failed its first MOT on 5 major things cost me

Has to be my Fabia :( Not necessarily a bad car, but the most unreliable car I've owned, breaking down twice in the one year I owned it! :(

Chris

Pug 205........liked to fiull the rear passenger footwell with water.....

This VW - more rattles thana mothercare outlet.

And let's not forget the dutiful stint in a 1.2 Corsa........... :thumbdwn:

S reg MGF, gas suspension, faulty head gakets, windows that needed aligning every time you open them, noises from engine when no keys in ignition. From my experience stay well away.

Peugeot 206 diesel used to leap sideways if cornered hard scared the carp out of me on a regular basis

but worse stil Astra 1.7 tdi... two heads....three engine rebuilds....... one gearbox...two clutches and it used to eat tyres as well...most of the faults down to a useless Vauxhall garage...........was I glad when that thing went back

a fiat brava 1.6 on a s reg, what a heap of rubbish, it used to feel like it was floating just above the road surface, the steering was frightening and suprisingly enough it wasnt that slow, so what you had was kind of a quick car that handled like a hovercraft.

Ah someone else has noticed this... my dad had one and I drove it. The steering wheel seriously did not feel like it was connected to the wheels, and there was absolutely ZERO feel. Very, very strange. The engine did sound nice though and it was pretty nippy when you revved it hard, but was very gutless below about 5000 rpm IMO.

My worst car i ever owned was a Lotus Eclat. I had a Lotus Super 7 which was great fun. This guy offered me a good price plus his Lotus. I took the offer, and the Lotus he gave me was a dog. From day one it gave me problems, so i sold it after 6 months of trying to get it right.

Most companies will have produced some rubbish car at some stage. Some were consistenly rubbish, others were more rare.

If you happen to find yourself driving one / owning one you will probably dislike that brand. Same with dealers. You get a good one, it's cool. If you get a bad one they can truly f*ck your car. As my needs for 'what's important for a car' have changed a bit from being the cheapest runabout to something that needs to do 700-odd miles/week without fail, my car selection has changed. The Rover wouldnt do this job, it would die. It is however perfect for short runs into town with occasional longer trip :)

Another Vauxhall vote here - K-reg Nova SX TD. Good engine (from Isuzu), everything else awful: white paint that seemed to let the dirt get under it, driver's seat kept collapsing (I have visions of the previous owner being about 35 stone), the horn fell off on the M25 one day. And the steering - talk about heavy.

Not all bad though, went pretty well and made me a diesel convert.

i've not really had any bad personal cars! My 1st car, A MK2 950 Fiesta, was great transport for nearly 4 years, All my VW's have been great and my vRS is Fab too!

My G/F's '02 Plate Polo was a disaster though, Deffo a Friday 5pm going home car!! Back to the dealers about 15 times in 6months!!!

Had a Rover 600 as a hire car once and that was horrible also a Renault Laguna which drank fuel and has the most uncomfortable seat ever!

Steve

My 'F' reg VW Polo, nightmare car loads of problems, was in the days when I was a little nieve when buying cars, paid the price, several times LOL.
