Changing the Wing mirror adjustment switch

Featured Replies

Hi folks, first time poster.

I am trying to sell my fathers Skoda Fabia 1.4 Elegance Estate 2002. I must fix a few things first, and one of those things is thet the electric wing mirror adjustment button is broken off. Ive managed to get hold ov a new switch, but am i able to change it myself? I am not in any way a mechanic.

Do I need to disassemble the door to get at the button panel, or can i whip it out using a tool? Do i have to disconnect the battery?

Any tips on how to do it appreciated.

thanks a lot

Andy

Sure it just pops out and unclips. Can't you work it out from the new one where the clips are etc? Don't need to disconnect battery either.

Button panel comes out the front. Thin tool in the seam behind it to push the retaining clip, rotate towards the front and pull out. Usual worry would be breaking the clip. Not too much of an issue as you're replacing the whole thing. Second worry is DO NOT LET THE CABLE SLIDE BACK INTO THE DOOR when replacing the panel. Otherwise you may end up stripping down the door trims to retrieve it.

the actual button just pulls off so if the switch still works, just swap the buttons over :)

Bloody excellent. I didn't think of that. :)

I think if you pull the handle, you can lever something sharp in behind to pop out the actual whole switch.

Mine no longer clips in the door, so whilst it works fine, I often find it just hanging out the door by the wires.  I need to figure some kind of temporary/permafix....  Will probably just put on a tiny blob of superglue which can be broken off easily should it need to come out.

Mine is exactly the same. Close the door come back and it's hanging out. ( the switch that is nothing else )

it just pulls out, removed mine the other day while changing the wingmirror over. I just levered a trim remover tool (although a screwdriver would work as well) on the top side and it just popped out, didn't need to mess with the handle or anything, and to be fair I wasn't that delicate either.

Lol!

Mine is the same, I've just put a bit of sikaflex on behind

Dear all,

I changed the part in less than two minutes, thanks to your tips! Now its working perfectly!

Thanks a million!

Andy

i would use a blob of silicone sealant. hold it in with masking tape till it sets and then, if needs be, it will be fairly easy to re-remove in the future. supaglue would be a "mare!

bit of decent superglue does the trick, as i found after my car had its door repaired that the bodyshop had done so after breaking the clips

only found out 4 months later when i removed it to change the speaker
