Blackvue DR550GW-2ch and Superb Battery

Featured Replies

Having fitted the above two cameras and the low voltage power disconnect device I noticed what I thought was erratic behaviour in that parking mode recordings stopped shortly after leaving the vehicle.

On a few occasions of leaving the vehicle for 30 minutes or so, the camera would say it was "now shutting down" when unlocking and opening the car door.

A clue came one day when the car wouldn't start and monitoring the battery voltage showed it could not charge above 12.1 volts and after:

30 mins was 11.85

1 Hr was 11.82

2 Hr was 11.77

The blackvue power magic pro is set to disconnect the camera at 11.8. erratic behaviour explained!

A battery specialist has tested the battery and suggests that despite there being no doubt the battery is faulty I will probably have great trouble getting it replaced as the diagnostic equipment reads the battery as good but needs charging.

Apart from that I am quite sure I don't want another one from skoda as this one is only 13 months old.

Bosch 096 77ah 5 year warranty on order.

I have absolutely no problems with my current 500 Blackvue WiFi and the previous 400 Mk II being on permanently. It may be that the battery is larger (V6 battery is in the boot).

what size (rating is yours, where in the boot is it? any pics?

I'll get the battery details / picture for you tomorrow, but it's location (in the Combi) is in the left hand storage compartment in the load bay when looking into the car.

Thanks for that, Interesting that yours is a varta battery, as such I would not expect you would have problems with it.

Mine has a name I hve never heard of "moll"

Don't worry about Moll, it's a top brand. In this test of the German ADAC it ended first place in the test of Start/Stop batteries. And also this 2011 test was won by Moll.

I noticed on their website that the first two of their batteries are not rated for stop start.??

Have also discovered that the car battery is covered under warranty despite being told by the dealer two months back that

"batteries are not covered after 6 months"

On that occasion the two rechargeable batteries in the torch had died.

Booked in for diagnosis tomorrow, we shall see.
