Skoda Octavia I TDI Not running right

Featured Replies

Hello all and thank you in advance for reading this and for any replies.

I have a 2002 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI 110 HP version.

For a few weeks now I have been experiencing some running issues with this car.

First it started with no boost, I diagnosed that the Mass Air flow sensor was at fault (common problem when I worked for Skoda). I replaced this and then there was boost but the next issue came to light.

The boost would either not be there until 4000RPM but occasionally there would be boost at 2200/2500RP.

Opening the bonnet I came to find that there was a pipe off that went to one of the solenoid looking items, there was a fork split where the pipe was off. We also lost the servo assistance for the brakes when this pipe was off.

Put the pipe back on and all was Okay or I thought. We have had no problems with the brakes but the engine went really lumpy like there was a misfire. this was more prone when cold but it seems to be all the time.

Since then we have taken the vacuum pipe off the EGR valve which has stopped the issue but is only a temporary fix as we have seen a decrease in MPG.

I have cleaned out the EGR valve and Manifold which was coated in oil, soot and coaked up.

I have not been able to fix the issue so my question now is what to do now as there are no EML faults but the issue remains

Thanks again in advance. Richard

Do the vanes move freely in the turbo?

If no: Mr Muscle

If yes: n75, vacuum issue, CTS, MAF

Any fault codes (not all cause the EML to come on).  I have disabled my EGR with no adverse affect to MPG figures.

How does Mr Muscle help the vanes move inside the turbo?

How do you get it inside?

The only way to clean the carbon from the vanes is to remove the turbo, soak it in petrol overnight, dry thoroughly then reassemble.

Mr muscle breaks up the carbon deposits. Enough people on here have tried it with a successful outcome to be able to say it works. Commonly you can access to the vanes via the egr pipe or by disconnecting the down pipe, depending on the engine. Saves having to remove the turbo from the dqt.
