Looking for replacement key advice

Featured Replies

Hi,

I just bought a 1.8T RS and it's *great*!

But I only have one key and, after much research, I'm still trying to get my head around what setting up a new key would involve.  If anyone can help clear this up, I'd be very greatful!

1.  I have to get the key cut

2.  I need to make it work with the immobiliser

  - do you need to code the transponder?

  - do I also have to perform some procedure to get the car to accept it (and other keys)?

3.  I have to sort out remote locking.

  - does this mean programming the key in some other way?

Also, I'm in Nottingham.  Anyone know of places where I can get this stuff done cheap?

I know there are folk on here that sort out keys (I'm lookin at you, actionman39! But I can't seem to PM you, perhaps because I'm a new member?).  Any one want to PM me, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks!

Welcome to Briskoda.

You need to get another key with exactly the same part number as your existing key. Then it has to be cut & coded to the immobiliser, pretty sure you need vagtach rather than VCDS to do this, or a main dealer will do it. Not sure if you need the SKC to do this, but I'm sure someone will be along to clarify.

I've done this, but with a normal key without a fob.

1. You need a new key with a new unused ID48 transponder.

I got mine from this site:-http://www.carkeyhelp.co.uk/products/Skoda-HU66T-transponder-key.html

2.Get it cut.I used timpsons

3.Then you need the skc of your car.Either by autolocksmith or someone with Vagtacho

4.Then using the skc you have to program the key to your car.Again either using an autolocksmith or someone with a full version  Vagcom

OK, thanks. They don't seem to have my key in.  I'll look around.

I don't have the SKC, unfortunately.

Do does coding the transponder get it to work with the immobiliser *and* the remote locking, then?

No remote locking is different but easier to do if you have the right fob.

i've had my PM usage stopped because of some posts i put on the forum that were classed as trading & i haven't yet paid to advertise on the forum

if you need any further advice you can always contact me on [email protected]
