Enabling cornering fogs with VCDS - updated for vRS

Featured Replies

Thanks for your time today Andyvee, very interesting afternoon. Very impressed with your knowledge of German (minus the dimming light episode). Cornering fogs enabled, tilting passenger mirror activated when selecting reverse, auto close on the windows when it rains, and the last drops wipe function activated for the front and rear wipers. Very happy, thanks again.

Charley

No probs Charley, thanks for being a guinea pig for the foglights, and entrusting me to make undocumented changes to your pride and joy for the benefit of the Briskoda community

  • Just checked, they do both come on when I put it in reverse which is not a bad idea especially when you are reversing out of a tight spot and the front swings at a large angle!

  • I  now have 2 rear fog lights - an absolute doddle!   I'm posting the adaptations in a minute.   Why Skoda dealers can't get their head round this is beyond me ............   http://www.briskoda

Nice work lads. Shame the same can't be said for Skoda UK

So as originally thought, instead of simply activating the cornering fogs during manufacture, Skoda UK have instead decided to issue a revision to the brochure causing all sorts of unnecessary confusion for their dealer network and disappointment for early purchasers of the vRS.

Can't agree more and very well put, just unbelievable !!

So andyvee are you willing to offer your services more widely? Happy to see my fogs doing the work the brochure promised and would also love the window close, mirror dip and teardrop wipe activated. N Yorks, but happy to travel

I don't mind doing the odd one or two in my spare time, not trying to turn this in to a cottage industry LOL!

If you can't find anyone more local (try Mike Holroyd, he's in Whitby) then by all means I'll do it for you at a weekend.

Couldn't agree more. A 10 minute job to do now I know exactly what needs doing.

Next challenge - rear foglights - I have some ideas on this one, but I have a funny feeling it will throw a bulb warning light if I enable both. I reckon I can swap the foglight over for use on the continent though, I'll have a play later. I only have a car with LED rear clusters to experiment on, so what works on that may not work on standard clusters.

What gets me is a lot of functions appear to be buried in the cars control units as standard but are not activated or in some cases offered as options.

Also rather frustrating that Skoda UK when they do offer them, charge a ridiculous price to switch them on; £100 for corner fog, Skoda Auto have the equipment plugged into the car during build anyway, so probably takes all of 30 seconds to check the right tick boxes :bandit:

Even better would be to offer it as standard with fog lights and make black chrome fogs a nominal cost option ;)

Just as a thought SUK ought to rename their offices **** Turpin House

I'll give 50% discount on SUK prices for cornering fogs LOL - only kidding

Byte 17 (09 - Cent.Elec) will certainly be different on LED equipped car compared to others. Don’t forget that Byte 17 is also hidden behind the 00 ‘mask’ the true value is not shown.

Another thing to bear in mind for a later date is as controllers get updated the Bytes / Bits can also change, for this reason alone do not make note of just the Byte and Bit to change but also the description of it, so when it does eventually change it will be obvious.

I don't think it is coding, there are some interesting adaptation options, and addresses can be assigned a secondary function as well.

I may be wrong, but seeing how the secondary function of the front fog lights is assigned, I am thinking that may be a way forward, but there are other options as well. Don't want to give too much away at this point, as no doubt someone will go ahead and screw their lights over!

For those who are not risk averse and understand how this works, take a look at the below adaptation channels

(4)-Leuchte26NSL LA72-Lichtfunktion A 26 - Nebelschlusslicht wenn kein Anhaenger gesteckt und Rechtsverkehr
(4)-Leuchte27NSL RC6-Lichtfunktion A 27 - Nebelschlusslicht wenn kein Anhaenger gesteckt und Linksverkehr

With my poor german, that translates as Rear fog light when no trailer connected and right-hand traffic and Rear fog light when no trailer connected and left-hand traffic.

So, I wonder what would happen if A26 was changed to be the same as A27? Or, a secondary function was assigned to B26?

Do both come on when you enable reverse? I still need to try this on a vRS.

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling

They come on in reverse Yes

And I see the coding here already. Iff you put hem on and the are not working you need adapt the following rules to 100%:

This is the one below the:

  1. Kanal (5) Leuchte12NL LB45-Lichtfunktion B12 auswählen

and the

  1. Kanal (5) Leuchte13NL RB5-Lichtfunktion B13 auswählen

I forgot the get pictures but they will be nown as dimwert as i recalls

I'm trying to found out iff the foglights can be used as DRL and as Corneringlights. Because in the channel I only can assign one option as one rule. I did try some options and the Foglights can only used for one option in that channel. Or there must more channels for each light. ( there are more then 600+ adaption channels for only the lights)

I have to wait for a new customer the look deeper in it

The Tear wiping wil not always work. Did you tested it?

Only just gave it a single go after it was enabled and it worked then, not tried it since though.

Neily03 now has cornering fogs on his vRS.

As well as

Rear Teardrop wipe

Passenger wing mirror dip on reverse

Rain Closing

Automatic boot closing from interior button and remote fob

Then the battery died on my laptop ..........

Andy,

How did you do the teardrop wipe etc.?  Was it via an adaption or long coding?  When I scanned ssfan's car the label file for the Central Electrics controller was missing which stopped me doing too much.

Adaptations - look for

(4)-Rear Window Wiper-Traenenwischen Heck

(17)-Windshield wiper-Traenenwischen Front Status

Oddly, both are set to not active from the factory

I'll get screenshots of this tomorrow and add it to my thread

Seems a lot is now done by adaptations rather than coding on some modules

Cornering fogs only being a a software thing has gotten me thinking about full beam assist for the vRS...... Any ideas Andy?

Happy to play guinea pig again if you want to try out anything !! .... tear drop wipe, double rear fog lights, dipping door mirror....hehe!

There is no more Long coding i think only for the basics. The rest is in adaption now.

tear drop wiping is in Adaption to

skip

You need module 20 for high beam assist, not sure if module A5 (Lane Assist) can be coded/adapted. Unfortunately, the published security access code doesn't work apparently.

OK, I'm up for a bit more experimenting.  I'll give you a call tomorrow to sort out meeting up.

Don't forget to try Byte 1 Bit 2 on the Rain Light Sensor to see if the rain closing works :-)

I can't be arsed to go back out to the car now and try it LOL

Maybe I'll use Neily03 as a guinea pig tomorrow :-)

  • Author

I'll get screenshots for the dipping door mirror & rain closing tomorrow.

There a couple of other minor (pointless) things as well - needle staging, laptimer

I can post shots of the adjustment of the consumption display as well so you can correct your mpg.

Anything else???
