Trip to TRL Developments!

Featured Replies

I finally took the octy to TRL for its map. What a day and what a place. Matt's 2400bhp dyno is awesome.

It was a bloody long drive from penrith to halifax but well worth it.

Matt specialises in evo tuning, engine building and building time attack cars.

Here is a few pics of the day and new plans for my car!

We arrived to this sight!

This is matt;s own evo 10 rs. He is going to rebuild & forge the engine so he decided to see how far the standard pistons can go. 650bhp before 1 cracked!

The utter ****e map that was on it.

After its map.

Now due to a knackered n75, n249 & air flow meter all boost control components have been disconnected and all boost is leaked off until my manual boost controller arrives. It will be limited to 1.3bar to make 210bhp and 260ftlb. And i have decided to add a front mount. k04 turbo, k04 injectors & afm. And AEM Tru-Boost controller so we will see what power we can get after that.

anybody that wants their car mapped i urge you to go and see matt. he is a really decent bloke and he knows his stuff. He can map all cars including all after market ecu's.

You realise k04 isn't a straight swap !!

And manual boost controller why would you when these have awesome boost control through n75 !!

Do some reading will help you along the way ;-)

Love the Subaru flag in an Evo place ;-)

And fitting a ko4 makes your new remap completely pointless

Yes i know its not done 1 on a golf conversion. I am going to run tru-boost so i can have 2 pre determined boost levels for low and high.

It is a little pointless but its going to be a while until i get all the parts gathered and fitted and the afr on the old map was 16:1. I couldnt carry on running it like that.

You can do switchable mapping via n75 ;-) just gotta know what your doing

Look up Rtech

How much did it set you back?

  • Author

I have spoken to r tech in the past. And know they are best for these but its too far for me to go.

Just been to skoda and got a new n75. Put it on and it went back to having erratic boost but runs fine with it dissconnected.

It was £395.

We seem to be in the middle of nowhere up here for this sort of thing. I'm thinking of a remap next year ( after Santa's been ). Brotec are just outside of Edinburgh and do shark maps, that's not too far from Carlisle. How far is Halifax from Penrith buddy?

  • Author

Its 120 miles. Yeah its a big problem and although matts an evo man he has always done my tuning thats why i went to him.

£395 for a stage 1 wow expensive

So what would be the going rate for a stage 1 map?

  • Author

Its not alot for a custom map. Rs tuning wanted 500 so did teg sport. Jdm dyno wanted 300 but that was somebody else writing the map. I would rather pay for a custom map than pay less for somebody to screw it up for a second time.

Im sure ive read of people getting custom maps stage 1 much cheaper on here from the well known members who do mapping

How long did it take him ??

  • Author

I dont dispute that there is cheaper tuners out there.

It took a few hours by the time it had a test run. Then got an original file for it. Ran diagnostics, ordered and fit a new afm. Got the original file running properly by disconnecting the n75 then mapping it.

Custom r-tech was £250 iirc

lol

What's going on with the first trace showing 164bhp? It can't have driven very well like that, surely?

First graph looks like an AFR plot to me, the 2nd graph is a power graph

Yeah first was afr but it was only showing 164 bhp due to the other map.

If you sort your boost issue's out properly (i.e by using a new N75, get the N249 bypassed and fit a new genuine airflow meter), sort out any vac leaks (do the vac line simplification mod), get your front mount fitted, and also fit a sports cat or decat, then make the trip to R-tech, it would be well worth the trip.

Fitting a manual boost controller is not the answer on these cars, the stock boost control is very capable, it just needs someone that knows what there doing with it.

I have just been to skoda today and got a new n75. It had an afm at trl and i have already bypassed the n249 and still get bad boost.

I know r tech are said to be the best for vag but its too far and to be fair trl build and tune race cars they cant be that far away from r tech standards.

Not all tuners are the same mate.

And tbh I wouldn't let TRL tune a lawn mower, but if you are happy that is all that really matters.

RTech or Badger5 (Gloucestershire) all the way for me.

I asked Niki to change the DTC flag on my map and without me knowing he snuck in his TiV mod. TOTALLY different car on the drive back. I will agree with Cossie, few tuners truly understand the breadth of control the Bosch ME7.5 can have and what underlying bugs are in the OE code...

And Cossie has had his fair share of Evo power ;-)
