Folding - We need more members!

Featured Replies

Hi guys, is the client multithreaded, as im running dual 3.8Ghz xeon's. Also if your pc is running 100% cpu time, does it use more power??

:bump: According to the "top 1000" teams we had the biggest single WU production score total in the team's history - 3380 points - now up to 282 in the rankings! http://statsman.info/folding2stats

Don't fully understand what this is about but signed up anyway.

Nearly finished my 1st WU. but I only have a celeron 2.7 ghz processor on my home laptop - so sorry guys for not being quick enough.

Welcome to the team. Don't worry about the power of your computer. We're happy you joined the team. Keep folding mate!

We need more Briskodians to join the team (over 8000 members of Briskoda? Imagine that as a folding team?) and be actively folding. Doesn't matter if you have 1 machine or 20, point is you are involved.

New Years resolution anyone? Join the Briskoda Folding Team?

I've just been out and bought myself a nice shiny new pc for chrimbo :) P4 3.06 with 1GB of RAM..... should help my folding a bit, espec as I'm setting up a network so I can keep the 'old' P4 1.6 folding as well!! Hoping to have my own little farm running before long :D:thumbup:

joined :D

interesting little comparison for all you folding nuts:

Project 1149 - 600 points......

on a P4 1.6 with 768MB SD RAM - 5.5 days to complete

on a P4 3.06 with 1022MB DDR RAM - 2.5 days to complete

bit of a difference huh? :D

Since folding is mainly a CPU task the comparison is very logical. The fact that it is slightly more than double is probably due to other tasks going on on the same PC, I guess. My folding process is currently consuming only 7Mb of memory, so the extra memory won't make much of a difference either.

Not bad at all. As Nick says, simply whacking up the CPU speed to (almost) double has helped immenesly, and if the 1.6 was always doing other tasks as the daily used machine, its more than double time taken is logical. :)

RAM seems to not be used much at all. Even big WUs seem to use no more than 100MB, which is why I've elected to use 512mb in my new machine, not a gig.

Bah my scores are dropping through the floor -- I've currently got 9 PC's in work folding for me -- 5 of which are waiting to send results -- but our company's intranet structure has crashed -- aircon unit decided to drain itself into our main server !!

And I was doing do well

Ahh, wondered why you'd shot past me! ;)

Steve

Ahh' date=' wondered why you'd shot past me! ;)

Well you know how it is,one was asked to check the PC's in work for virus software updates and have a bit of a clean out, seemed silly to miss such a golden opportunity :)

Shame the works intranet can't bloody cope -- the things about as reliable as a chocolate fireguard.

Although the latest failure is brilliant -- I mean who in their right mind would put the aircon plant directly above the server room !!!

Indeed, one would have it running on all the PCs I look after, if our company's stupid firewall would let FAH past

Yes, seems a bit daft to have the aircon above the server. Perhaps place it somewhere non critical and then run the chilled air in?!

One of the benefits of having to do most of the new PC setups and installs of non system software -- I get to now the IP settings and port no's so I get round it that way :)

Hoping to get a laptop added to my little folding farm in the next week or so... it's old and slow but still, every little helps! I've been stuck in pos 29 for months now lol.... wanna try and climb at least one position!

Tried installing F@H on the training pcs at work but the darned admin settings wouldn't let me.... might have another try in a week or so ;)

OK - if admin rights have been denied to install the folding thing as a program, will it work as a service? I'm thinking it would be allow me to do that sticking the console version in C: on my PC at work and fold using the command prompt only... Is this a serious way around admin rights denying you access to actually physically install it as a program?

:bump: Still sort of looking for the yes-no answer to the above post. :D

If you don't have rights to install software you almost certainly won't be able to install services, so you will be restricted to running things either from the command line or launching them from explorer, as you say. Of course then you have the issue of whether it will be allowed to communicate with the servers to obtain WUs and send results. Try it and see. You may have to configure a proxy and some authentication details.

OK ... first 2 wu's complete ... took 8 days :( then it is only a dual P2-333 so what do I expect.

Added my newley aquired and tweaked RAQ3 (k6-500) last night and it's already done 20%.

For the linux crowd cpuinfo reports 665.60 and 657.40 bogomips for the dual p2's and 992.87 bogomips for the k6.

I'm now wondering if I should kick off the client on my main desktop :rubchin:

Well - I know I can use DOS at work to alter files and things - I shall see :)

:bump:

Just a note for any members who have been treated/treated themselves to new computers for Crimbo. If you haven't joined Briskoda's Folding Team yet, why not take this opportunity to put your shiny new machine to good use?

See the link below for more information. Look forward to seeing the team growing rapidly in the coming weeks.

Finally after a lot of messing about I think I am back folding ........

Next question ...how do I add a folding sig image...same as devonutopia, pusscat etc. etc. I know the how to is on here somewhere but the search isn't bringing it up ...either that or my brain has stopped working .....which is much more likely :)

Wow December was my most productive month ever !!

10,928 Points & 89 Work Units

That's what comes from letting my PC run 24/7 and adding some PC's from work :)

Use the IMG tags -- put it in like a photo.

sigimage.php?un=Pdtdi&t=42567

oh - and I've managed to climb a place at last!! Just need fluff or someone to overtake me again now and I'll be back in 29th
