:bump: According to the "top 1000" teams we had the biggest single WU production score total in the team's history - 3380 points - now up to 282 in the rankings! http://statsman.info/folding2stats

 Thats the spirit! I've just checked and Briskoda has 8778 signed up members, and there are 76 signed up folders although 40ish are active. Thats less than 1/2 a percent of the forum is helping out with folding. We're such a big community - It would only take around 3% or 4% of members to make us a formidable team.

Oh yes it Jason! Because I'll go away now and think of ways to increase my output. To the benefit of Briskoda's total folding ability! :P

This is where installing extra fans and other cooling means comes in. ;)

Better off uprating the PSU - I think a good powerful fan is essential. When I build my next tower, I'll be spending around £50 on the PSU alone to make sure its up to the job. :)

Wonder if Mum has access to install stuff on her network at the university? :D

Edit: Can anyone provide a guide (with pics if possible) of the best (safe) way to install an extra fan or two? I have 4 CPU fans lying about from an aborted ICE install in the car. :o

Gosh! 5 fans too.

I have found keeping towers on top of desks in open air a bit better than tucked inside a computer desk, or buried somewhere. :-)

It may be worth lifting the lid and giving the insides a bit of a clean - you'll be amazed at the amount of dust and carp that gets inside.

It all adds to the heat - the cooling heatsinks get full and cant work properly.

We have 3 PC's in our workshop and I have to clean them every month - you would not believe the state they get in.

EDIT: 5 fans sounds like a lot -- you might be causing more harm than good having that many fans -- you need to make sure they are working together - i.e some sucking in air and some throwing air out - ideally intake in front and exhaust at rear or in top,it's also worth checking that you have clear space for the air to flow- no cables blocking the way and the like.

my pc's got 5 fans... 2 at the front sucking in, one on the side and two at the back blowing out! Thing is my pc's under my desk so it still gets a bit warm.... espec as the cats seem to like to curl up on / by it!

Gonna be rethinking the whole thing over xmas... whether to upgrade, where else it can sit.... so hopefully I'll find a better alternative then... doesn't matter where it goes tho, cats are still gonna sit by/on it.....

And yes, deffo worth cleaning out from time to time - just did mine at the weekend and I was amazed at the amount of dust and fluff that came out - rivalled the dust bunnies that are currently living under my bed ;)

No problems with my Pentium 4's overheating and that's with each case being full of hard drives and only 2 fans for cooling  Time to run yours with the case off for a bit, Rob? Save on the central heating bill ;)

Oh quick tag as I didn't see it before....

ANY BANNERS, do not make them long and thin...instead make them:

tall and thin, in fact to be exact: 120x240 or

120x240.gif

As I'm setting up a new side area for BRISKODA informationals, animated is fine.

Added FAH and folding to the hot linker...but only for the first mention of FAH or folding ;)

So you can use it where ever now chaps :D

Nice one Colin. I'm still leaving my link in my signature too though. :D

Testing: folding folding (edit: just seen it in ColDs post too. )

I take it as folding uses spare CPU power -- the less services that your PC runs the quicker it will do the folding ??

Assuming that's the case, then building a bare system just to run folding could be more cost effective - less to buy and more efficient at folding.

So you could have a really base system ie

1. CPU

2.Motherboard(on board grafix or cheapo card)

3.Memory

4.Small HDD

5.PSU

No need for mega sound or graphics....hmm I've got a spare PC case knocking around, might do a bit of fishing on't bay

Its what I'm gonna do, although best not to scrimp on the PSU for stability's sake. :)

1 gig of memory and a mega CPU is the prominent elements of my imminent system. Gonna be a small HDD, cheapo sound & graphics, etc. NOo floppy, basic cd-rom. ;)
