How to enable Traffic Sign recognition

Featured Replies

Errr. The small symbol on a screen out of my eye line is constant, traffic signs are infrequent at best and never there when you see a yellow box !

  • andyvee, still time for you to be nominated for most helpful member of the year award. You get my vote

  • Sod all of this stuff (coding, Sat Nav etc), I just the cheap option of road sign recognition. Mk1 Eyeballs.

Well put, I enabled traffic sign recognition when my car was only 2 hours old and it’s great! You don’t notice how much you use it until you get into a car that doesn’t have it, as it says above you can glance down to reassure yourself that you are not speeding….

I guess it's one of those things you'll think is useless until like you say, you have it.

Do you get the message about restricted functionality?

The only time the traffic sign recognition shows any sort of message is when you start the car in an area it doesn't know, that also has no speed signs in the immediate area. In which case a pop up screen is shown on the columbus, that has a list of standard speed limits for the country your in. Nothing is shown on the maxi dot apart from the speed limit, occasionally it shows a no overtaking sign as well if it sees one.

A kind member enabled this for me in VCDS, it does seem to work quite well in terms of recognising the signs, but every startup I get a loud bing and a "restricted" notice. I have lane assist and Amundson. Reading the above, it sounds like this is normal? If so, is it possible to silence the bing at all? I could put up with the notice but not the bing.

If not, is there a way to disable the system without using vcds again?

Thanks for help.

Have you got it enabled on an Octy 3 with Columbus? If you have, and don't get the restricted functionality message I would be very interested in the coding :)

I have never noticed a message come up, what's the frequency of it displaying, and where is it displayed? I have an Octy 3 VRS tdi with columbus delivered in April. I used your vcds adaptations guide (thanks by the way), and added various options including cornering fogs, high beam assist etc. Everything I coded has worked well including rain closing, however occasionally the leaving homes lights don't come on (common problem so I read).

I could take some screen shots of the coding, what would u need? Or can I export a backup and email it?

You get it every time you turn on the ignition - it comes up on the Maxidot BUT I have had a play with a Bolero and an Amundsen (not sure if I did enable it on someones car with Columbus or not now).

From my research, on a Columbus it should be fine as there is coding on Byte 24 of the Columbus to have 'Traffic Sign Fusion' which merges the data. This will be missing from the Bolero (obviously as it isn't a SatNav) and I rarely see an Amundsen so haven't checked on that.

In 6 weeks I'll get my L&K so will be enabling VZE (Traffic Sign Recognition) straight away, hopefully it works without the warning!

Works in VRS MY15 (a7) with lane assist, maxidot color and Columbus?

Should do yes, you have the correct camera.

I couldn't remember if you had Columbus or not!

Can you let me know what software version is on your Columbus (It will be something like 0292), and if you could export me the adaptation map from the A5 camera and the 5F Infotainment it would be appreciated. I can have a trawl through to see if there is anything different between your car and panmat's from the factory.

Instructions on how to export an adaptation map are here.

You don't need a security access code for 5F, but you need to enter 20103 for the A5 module before grabbing the map.

Andyvee have you got the adaptions map from Tomatin12 yet? I'm interested in why he is not getting the warning message on his Columbus.

Nope. It might be software revision dependent as well. 0292 is the highest software revision I have tried it with on a Columbus (Panmat).

Ollybroad - I've sent Tomatin12 a PM to see if we can get the adaptation maps :)

Sorry wasn't aware of that post until your PM. If I get chance I will have a look after work tomorrow.

Appreciated :)

Just looked at my columbus, the software version is 0292 and hardware is H42. I am generating the controller map csv files now.

Received :)

I'll take a look on Sunday evening unless ollybroad solves it first

Already coded my system for the recognition of traffic signals as described, but no signal is shown .. The MFA says that there is no data for my region.

Anyone know what can be?

What MIB unit do you have?

Well that looks suspiciously like a Discover Pro in a Golf VII to me.

Have you resolved all of your errors on 5F that you posted on Ross-Tech's forums - looks suspiciously like the coding or adaptation on 5F has been messed up somewhat.

What country are you in (Brazil?) as the camera module doesn't have speed sign data for all of the world, and that is a RoW unit by the looks of it, not a European one?
