Top Mods list for the MKII Octy TDI

Featured Replies

So after being out of a Skoda for a while, having had an A4 and a Golf, I have came back and bought myself a MkII Octy VRS TDI.

I have tried searching the forums but nothing stands out, so what I am wondering is what are people top 5/10 mods lists for the Octy TDI, maybe it could become a sticky...unless it already exists and I'm just too daft to find it?

Are people still doing this even with the new MOT rules coming in?

Here's what I've done on my CR170:

Uprated RARB (I've gone Whitelilne)

Black / body coloured grill surround (I wrapped mine, if I did it again it would be with plastidip)

Different / lighter wheels with sticky tyres ( I've gone TD Pro Race 1.2s & Eagle F1s)

Lowered (I've gone H&R comfort kit)

S-line gear knob (mine's a manual)

A6 S-line front seats (only 'cos the standard seats were really uncomfortable for me)

Short shifter (Neuspeed but might try a TT RS one with slightly longer throw)

Not regretted any of them.

Stage 1 remap coming next week: lets see if it makes it to the top of the list...

I'd also consider window tints, interior LEDs, and a front splitter but don't want to spend money on purely cosmetic stuff that might end up looking a bit 'Halfords'.

Boot pistons auto open - is this only on the estate version. One thing that really grips my **** about the car is when I press the button for the boot to open it doesn't. I have to pull it upwards and then press the button.

Does this mod fix that ?

I believe so but just gutting the pipe instead of a new pipe going in

Do you mind telling me which springs you used as I tried the ones mentioned in the threads on this (that are now a couple of years old) and they weren't too effective...

Thanks

On the OPs original point: what about bluetooth and a dash cam?  Both are quite popular and relatively easily fitted.

What spring ? Am I missing something here.

I fitted the RARB on the fabia and it was by far the best ever mod I have done, is it as effective on the octavia??

Yes, it only seems to work on the estate models I'm afraid. The situation is the same as I put on that other thread; they onyl work when the temp is warm enough, but even when they only pop open a little way I've found it very helpful as it's a good foot or so which means you can get a hand or a foot onto the inside of the boot and flick it up. No more dirty fingers or fiddling when you've got full hands. ;) Not sure, but I don't think the strength makes a massive amount of difference in the long run, but I went for the stronger versions anyway. They're 16x44 extra heavy duty.

To be fair, these springs are completely not designed to do this, they're only meant to absorb a little bouncing, but I'm happy with how they work :)

C'mon Mcfly, where have you been?!! :) If you get a stanley blade and carefully pry out the top semi-circle of the middle round control, there's a tiny square of black plastic on the back that if you shave off turns it into an on/off switch. Search for it on here, there's probably a instructional thread Look at the climatronic on a VW and you'll see it has on/off written on it. Skoda use exactly the same unit, but instead of disabling it, they just put the black plastic tab on to stop the button from being pressed in and making it function. Did mine in the dealers from new when I picked it up. Engineers hadn't seen it before and thought it was brilliant! lol

These are the best bits, only I had f+r roll bars, new 19" rotiforms and a pair of recaro seats on top.

My top pics would be:

better dampers/suspension/coilovers.

tts short shifter

columbus

fiscon bluetooth

Presumably DPF removed means car not MOT-able. Do you have to put the DPF back on for the test? Isn’t this a costly issue? If as an enthusiast you aren’t driving the car hard enough to overcome issues with DPF regeneration it seems a pity. I have a VRS TDI and in 30000 miles not had a DPF issue once. I’ve never even seen that light crime on, even briefly. If you’ve done this to eek out performance, I can say doing a stage 1 remap is easily the better solution as you get a modified torque map which makes the car noticeable stronger. The first thing you will then want to do is make sure you have very sticky tyres.

How did you get on after tougher rules came on removing DPF? That would  be interesting to know.

I doubt after 5 years he still has the car to answer that question!

However my car has done 145,000 miles and likewise haven’t had any issues but I put this down to the previous owner having mainly used the car up and down the motorway which no doubt helped!
