so.. not sure what path i take now to stop power drain >>??? please help

Also, the surrounding facia is now wrong

You need to know the Firmware version of the Columbus first. Then get the correct Firmware usually patched to stop the power drain.

If I remember correctly (and I only did this 2 weeks ago) press and hold the setup button. After a few seconds a menu will appear, keep it pressed and you should get the service menu appear after 20 seconds or so.

The most important thing is the Revision of the unit. Also the sticker on the unit itself may help. Mine says the following.

Part number on sticker is 3T0 035 680
HW: H11
SW: 1164

You also want the 'HW Radio Version' which is in the service menu as this will tell you what Revision you have. The service menu has to be activated via a firmware upgrade so not always will pressing Setup as described work, but fingers crossed.

Also from your pic your running firmware 3984 so I am guessing the one you are trying to upgrade to is lower than that, hence why your getting the downgrade error.

cant see 'HW Radio Version'

only
'HW Version' H60

feck.. so its not available

did you press the setup button for 20 seconds or so to get the service menu

Ok

1. Press and hold Setup

Service menu will appear (keep setup pressed)

2. Keep setup pressed until 'Testmode' appears

3. Press Version info

4. Scroll down to HW Radio Version

kept it pressed for 80 seconds.. nothing past the service menu

im confused.. frustrated

Think ill need to sell this unit. iv no idea how to stop the power drain problem. and using the car every day at the drop of a pin means i cant afford to risk having no battery when i wake up

You could try the 4020 firmware on this site as it stops battery drain. Dont do the 4120 unless you know your unit is a higher revison than B.

http://www.rnsfirmware.com/

It is for older A and B units so hopefully it will work without bricking the unit.

Im guessing it will wipe my maps and ill need to buy a disk . Not a prob as my tomtom live is much loved

i take it id def need the 'HW Radio Version' to work out if mine is higher than B ??

It might not wipe the maps as yours is running 3984 which has the three partition hard disk so if your lucky it might keep them. The 4020 is the firmware I am using but I cant remember if it wiped the maps.

I believe this is the only foolproof way to check your Revision.

Incidently the 4020 firmware I linked will enable the 'Testmode' menu so once it has installed you can keep setup pressed to access the testmode.

brilliant

NP be interested to know how you get on

Tim

In the test menu you can enable software downgrade and apply the fix if you dont want to gamble on the firmware update wiping your maps.

The likelihood is that you DO NOT have the very old units which the 4020 firmware is for and whether you go to 4020 or 4120, you are likely to repartition the drive and hence lose maps.

Do you know the age of the donor car or is there a sticker on the unit itself?

age of car unknown but sticker ends in C

edit :

sticker says :

S 24.10.2011
3TO .35 680 C
HW: H60
SW : 3984

Then you would use the 4120 firmware from that link but as I say you will lose maps. If you go to the service menu and look around you should find enable software downgrade. You can then load the patch.
