Launch control ?

Featured Replies

Ok page 129 of the current Octy manual talks of launch control but, footnotes "This function is only avaiable for some engines"

Anybody know which engines this is ?

My launch control = right foot

Don't have my vrs yet but if it works the same way as the scirocco.. Clutch down, put it in 1st, foot on the floor with the accelerator and the revs should stop at 2000rpm ish rather than to the red. Dump the clutch (be brave!) and there you go!

Works on the VRS, for the manual you do as Drmarkb mentioned and with the DSG you turn off the TCS and put it in sport mode.

I can't imagine it's a kind experience for your clutch so personally I wouldn't do it very often. I did test it on the dealers demo mind you ;)

Is this on the diesel vRS too?

Out of interest did it seem any faster than accelerating normally?

I don't really fancy trying on mine - can only imagine the stress on the clutch.

It was on my diesel scirocco so I'd have thought so

I looked to see if I could use launch control on my Elegance DSG and I could not see how it could be activated.

I suspect this is only available on the VRS.

I'd be interested if it was.

Re read the manual and for a car with DSG place the gearbox in either S mode or triptronic, turn off Stop Start and traction control.

With all the other things set fully depress the break with left foot and fully depress accelerator with right foot and release break.

Brake.

Brake.

When I had my first Passat TDI DSG the launch control was disabled, after a bit of investigation there was stories it broke some gearboxes.  Has anyone actually tried it on a vRS TDI DSG?

Iv done it a few times on mine. Touch wood no problems.

I don't know how they cam call it launch control though cause does absolutely nothing to control it, just a massive wheel spin

Was thinking of trying it on the manual tdi vrs today.

Problem is where I can do it...

There's "nothing like the smell of napalm burning rubber in the morning " :giggle:  :giggle:  :giggle:

But as the man said

I think it does to be fair, a little bit, it seems to change to second better than if you floored it normally (im talking DSG though)

Through a little GoPro video with a stop watch on the re-run (private land used) it coming at around 0-60 6.8s - 7s over 4 timings in my DSG Tdi

P.S as i said the timings are not accurate but done on the playback of the video using a stopwatch

There is a particular set of traffic lights near me where launch control would (possibly) be useful, the only problem is getting the car ready to go.

By the time I have remembered what I need to do to get away quick (?) the lights will have changed, then their would be the family having a go if I managed to use launch control.

Well it works on my manual VRS TDI! Just popped out to try it as it doesn't mention anything about the manual in the handbook. I didn't let the clutch go but revs were held on 2,500 rpm.

No messing just clutch down and floor it.

Nice little extra that i didn't expect!
