DTUK Pedal Box - Fitted and Happy

Featured Replies

For those who are interested and considering this... It is a worthwhile addition.

Having already fitted a CRD-T box from DTUK and running this with no problems for 2 months, I decided to go the next step and fit a Pedal Box... And again, there has been no disappointment, whilst the CRD-T supplies the extra power, the pedal box delivers it astonishingly quickly...

The reaction from the accelerator pedal is noticeably crisper from standard, and power delivery is ultimately Sharper.

I understand (and it is well documented) that people have varying opinions regarding this, but I have tried both options from DTUK for the TDI vrs tuning, and I can only say good things.

This is actually my first TD Car and I am more than happy with the results I have obtained for  a relatively conservative amount of money.

So Steve, how much of an improvement over sport mode which is ment to sharpen the accelerator ?

What does the pedal box possibly do that putting your foot down further/faster does?  I would imagine the same thing over a smaller movement.

Each to their own I suppose.

I think it's more to remove any delay that exists between pedal input and throttle responce caused by these electonic systems, so it's more like having a traditional cable throttle. It doesn't matter how fast you floor it in the standard car there will be a delay there.

Thanks for the review Steve

It's the same as putting a short travel throttle on a motorbike, but it does it electronically.

I'm not sure exactly what feel the pedal box delivers, but i have found that the throttle is not linear on my car and I would prefer it to be linear. A remap sorted out one of my other cars in this regard and did make it nicer to drive, for me anyway.

I would hope that the pedal box does exactly that. I'm not a fan of relatively dead areas on the throttle.

It actually improves the throttle response dramatically, and there different maps which can be used. So power delivery is instant. Compared to the standard 'Sport' setting, it halves the reaction time again, It makes such a difference...

Coupled with the CRD-T box it is absolutely fantastic, and transforms the car totally.

If you look on the DTUK site it shows a comparative graph against standard, and I can honestly say it makes a big difference.

Cost involved and straight forward enough to fit?

It is very east to fit, literally 5 minutes, you disconnect the plug at the top of the accelerator pedal and then fit the pedal box in line. You can then place the actual pedal box with the controls on it where you want within the 1mtr lead length. The box can be fitted where you want with the Velcro provided...

Instead of moving your foot further down, you need electronics to make your WOT happen sooner? I'm a non-believer.

"Make your WOT happen sooner?"!!!

I'm not actually sure what that means, can you translate...

Fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion, I'm not trying to convince anyone to buy this... I'm giving information to those are actually interested in this, you obviously don't understand how it works, and I'm not bothered whether you believe it or not...

I actually have this fitted to my car and it DOES make a difference.

You cannot have anything more than a wide open throttle (WOT), foot fully down, 100% signal going back to the ECU.

The box makes this signal happen sooner over the travel of the pedal.

It feels faster response because you're putting your foot down less distance to get greater acceleration.  And I do honestly understand why you would chose such a thing as I'd rather get 0-100% throttle signal over 1" pedal movement rather than 0-100% over say 3".

How much was this box?

If that's how it works doesn't it become difficult to increase or decrease by a few mph, say 35 down to 30 when you approach a speed camera?

That is an excellent explanation and spot on...

The unit is £206.00

You learn to adjust to the quicker throttle response, and ultimately you are still regulated by your right foot, you just refine your acceleration accordingly...

You reduce speed as per usual with the brake!  The unit does not hold the revs, once you lift off, the revs fall as per usual and you decelerate in the usual way...

Interesting. Does it constitute a 'modification' with your insurers?

Glad youre happy with it Steve, they certainly do make a massive difference to the drivability of the car.

Doesn't increase the power, so I'd say that puts it the right side of the powers that be!

Listen guys, its easy to piont fingers at something you dont now anything about. :wall:  I have tried it on various cars and its really works, the acc. is so different and the car gets sooo much sporty feel. and NO its not like boxtuning/chiptuning the car DONT get  more Horsepower, and you DONT have to inform your inssurance :giggle:

The only thing it does is "trimming the acc. pedal" so you get the power from your engine sooner, without the hasitation every modern cars have.

My sons 2003 Vw Polo has it installed, and the difference from No pedalbox to pedalbox is Mindblowing. i would say it feels like 20-25 more Bhp.

So if you want a sporty feel in your car the Pedalbox for 120£ is worth every penny.

Thanks Steve. Now it makes sense... enjoy it!

Well, 120£ seems nearer to the $120 I already found for other throttle controllers, even if this unit might sport other features I'm not aware of...
