Octy wagon vs Mark7 Golf estate (wagon)?

Featured Replies

Help, please for Skoda fan in Aus.

Skoda AU have completely stuffed up the Octy3 launch with very few cars on the ground.

I'm looking at a 4-5+ month wait for a 2.0TDI wagon!

Meanwhile, the Mark7 Golf TDI Estate will come out ...

It may be priced similar, ?cheaper, than the Octavia 3 2.0TDI with DSG.

The Skoda is AUD 40,000 with a pana sunroof!

Can anyone tell me how much bigger the Octavia 3 estate is, please?

Is the Mark7 wagon a viable alternative?

Thanks

If I was in a market for a wagon I'd definately look the new Seat Leon ST. Comes at similiar price, can spec adaptive suspension and a few other Golf-like toys.

...... look the new Seat Leon ST. ....

Unfortunately, no SEATs in AUS atm

If you can get I for the right price and with this right spec it would be worth a look. I definitely would have considered it. I do think the Octavia looks better, but owning one I'm probably biased.

4 to 5 month wait seems to be pretty normal, its the same over here in the UK. The Octavia MK3 has proved to be very popular, just like the Yeti was when launched, so early supplies are very tight.

Ozwrangler, what makes you think VW/Audi would price a the Mark7 Golf TDI Estate similar, ?cheaper, than the Octavia 3 2.0TDI with DSG, they haven't anywhere else in the world.  I think you'll find the golf priced some 15-20% above the Octy3.

Here, a VW Golf top spec diesel hatch IS about $1000 cheaper than the diesel Skoda Octavia liftback.

I thought the estate versions might follow along the same?

We only get the diesel Octavia in 2.0L Elegance spec.

Ok, a Mk7 Golf hatchback is cheaper than the equilavent spec Skoda hatchback in Oz, sorry its not that way here is UK so, yes wait and see what happens with the Estate/Wagon/Combi

Unless you've gotta have the looks, the VRS TDI wagon ain't got a lot more than the Elegance in performance and does put a big dent in the MPG, depends what you want/need.

Dunno about Oz but, here VW's are more desirable than Skoda's and hence, the price difference.

I spec'd a Golf GT 2.0 TDi manual estate; its a good £1100 more than the equivalent Octavia Elegance. OK in some ways the Golf is better equipped but by the time youve ticked the boxes to match the Elegance spec youre looking at a nearly £26k car, given you could buy a tidy spec vRS TSi for that sort of money puts things in perspective.

From my experience other than the occasional not that great finance offer VW do not offer discounts so nearly £26k on low rate finance vs 23k on 0% and not disimilar residual losses for me it was a no brainer....the Octavia also still just about being the more practical of the two.

Indeed. Similar story here, I looked at the Passat also... minimal discount offered at VW and well over 5% on Skoda plus 0% and free servicing.  With an already cheaper car, this widened the gap further. I'm a newbie to Skoda but I'm a new fan. I intend to get a new superb as my next motor.

As themanwithnoaim says, it'd be surprising if in reality, after all the gimmicks were applied, the prices were the same.

Have you looked for VW discounts?

DtD are offering £3019.30 off a standard 5dr Golf GT Diesel Estate.

As above, there are currently some great deals on the Golf and Passat. Over 6k off decent spec Passats via online broker dtd. :) The Golf is more expensive but does have equipment that is either option on the octy or not even possible to spec and there's no doubt in my mind the Golf is more refined with a better ride, particularly at speed. The octy is of course more spacious in the rear of the cabin and has a slightly bigger boot.
