Fitted LED strip 'Puddle lights' to the front doors

Featured Replies

Fitted LED strip Puddle lights to each front door
Wired them to the door lights...10 minutes each door in total...Very easy:
1. Cleaned the plastic trim under the door cards with Alcohol.
2. Drilled a small hole
3. Stuck on the LED strip (3M Tape on the back of them) and pushed the wires through
4. Connected the wires to the block connector with scotch locks and put the door light unit back in.
Very happy with the result

Not yet

Now I know how easy the front ones were..I may well

Can someone tell me what wire is best to use for this? Is it any twin wire or does it have to be a certain type?

Use the existing wire..I didnt use any extra..

You need small scotchlocks though

I dont have the wire, no courtesy lights so i plan to run right up to interior light. Just not sure what wire to use.

If you use the same thickness wire as the LED's...........thats the same thickness of my Door lights' wire

Its a tidy little mod guys - well worth the effort.  A few of points to note:-

1. when purchasing led strips - try and get the black pcb type so it blends in with the door plastic.

2. type shown in the link are 5050-SMD type; if you can get 5630-SMD style - they are twice as bright.

3. if you buy 75cm to 1metre lengths and run them along the bottom then round uptowards the door mirror;

they double as foowell lights when you open the doors.

The above is based on my mates version on his Mazda 6; but applies equally to this thread.

Don't forget pictures guys..or it never happened

also what are scotch locks?

Thanks

Nasty connectors that connect to the existing wires by cutting through the insulation (and usually some of the existing strands of wire)

For less than £10 a door (I have just bought 4 OE lights for less than £10) you can fit OE lights... BUT they will require a hole cut into the bottom of each door panel.

OE lights?

Original equipment, the type VAG fit to models that have these as std.
